Evolution is a hoax
OK, I watched it all and I have to say I am completely unmoved.
The only people who contend that radio-carbon dating is an exact science are people who don't know anything about it. The fact that carbon dating is inaccurate does not change that fact that it's the best method we have to try and determine the age of anything that precedes culture. You know what else is an inaccurate science: cancer treatment.
There are all sorts of reasons that carbon dating can get messed up, they are not hard to research, and no one out there, no one, is saying that they never get messed up. But it is still an infinitely better estimate than trying to determine the age of the Earth through someone's interpretation of scripture.
We need to use estimates all the time to try and paint our picture of the universe as we know it. If you look up the Andromeda Galaxy on wikipedia, wikipedia will tell you that the Andromeda galaxy is 2.5 million light-years away. The fact is, that's our best estimate. It might be only 2 million light-years away, or it could even be 4 million. We use our best estimate and our best understanding of science as it works at that time.
I'm curious, does the bible say anything about the distance of the Andromeda galaxy from Earth?

Don't wanna be 'that guy', but this was really poorly done in my opinion. Way too few interstellar references, the orbit lines made it all too unreal, and the sense of scale I got was way out of whack. Where's the Orion nebula? Where's Andromeda in relation to us? No, we just zoom out and back in and learn nothing. Check me off as disappointed.
Agreed. Plus: It gives the wrong impression the universe is spherical.

Why Star Trek: Enterprise failed (Blog Entry by jwray)
DS9 is #1. Love it.
Enterprise has Jolene Blalock...so it can't be worse than Voyager.
BTW, Jolene was in House last week, but just a bit part
That said, one of the big victories of TNG was the SF plots w/o the tawdry sex. The five seasons of Andromeda managed a few episodes of that too.
Felicia Day Explains Colliding Galaxies
so I didnt watch the whole video, but what I saw I understand we will collide with Andromeda in 2012 and it will destroy the Earth
Uncovering the True Structure of Andromeda Galaxy
Andromeda is fun to observe in binoculars, small or large telescopes. Easy target. It is one of the few naked-eye galaxies. On a good crisp dark night you can see Andromeda just by looking up in the right place. This galaxy is so close, so big, that it appears 3 times wider than a full moon does. To the naked eye, its more like a distended smudge.

Is Andromeda Redshifted?
If our galaxy is going to collide with Andromeda, then it would probably have a blue shift, meaning it is moving towards us.

How to locate and see Andromeda Galaxy w/ binoculars
It's really too bad that so many cities suffer from light pollution. It can be difficult to find Andromeda in most cities.
The Largest Black Holes in the universe (Insane!, watch HD!)
^The interesting thing is, at all times during human history have we been crashing towards Andromeda. Our whole existence plays out while we are in "free fall" towards something. If we speed up to astronomical time, it will just be two luminous clouds intertwining, but during that time civilizations, species, worlds have come into existence and gone again.
The sheer scale of it all is staggering.
Is the "end of the world" near? Is life as we know it coming to an end? (User Poll by burdturgler)
Eventually the sun will stop or the milky way will collide with andromeda - I think that can be described as an event. But anytime soon? Hell no.

How the milky way will end
Good science and nice simulation, but the cgi graphics were ridiculous. Those 80s science fiction explosions were over the top cheesy.
Another simulation of this event, as seen from the Earth, can be seen here: http://www.videosift.com/video/Milky-Way-and-Andromeda-collision-seen-from-Earth

after watching this, I am glad I didn't watch the movie
Well, this was one of the visual highlights (the end of this clip)..the movie is not too good, a bit too long and predictable/unbelievable.
