tony jaa is a god

Baqueta says...

Tony Jaa would be the first guy to say that what he does in the movies isn't 'real' Muay Thai - I've seen a couple of interviews with him where he's pointed it out. Some of it is a reasonably fair representation, but the acrobatics and the jumping kicks are much more akin to wushu, capoeira, free running, or tricking.

The guy has an undeniable talent, and I really loved Ong Bak. The Protector (aka. Ong Bak 2) had some great fights, particularly the 5-6min one-shot scene that southblvd mentioned. The problem with The Protector was that it was seriously malnourished on plot - even by the (not high) standards of martial arts movies.

Bruce Lee Interview, his opinion of kung-fu

NordlichReiter says...

He is fast, but i wonder if his speed would hit with force. In kung fu it is said that speed is every thing, it is not. Tai Chi does requite speed to throw an opponent, speed is not everything. Presence of mind, calmness of mind, and many more concentrative ideals are needed to practice and use Martial Arts.

I would argue that Kung Fu (kung fu meaning great skill or great art, or even great work) is not the best martial art, but coupled with grappling and boxing skills it would be great. There is no one martial artist who does not know how to adapt other styles to his skills. Kung Fu by meaning is not an style, there are so many styles, Chen Tai Chi, Wu Tai Chi, Mok Gar, Shaolin, Wushu, Wing Chun, Hsing I Chaun, Ba Kua (ba Qua). When kung fu is mentioned it usually means Chinese Martial Arts and only chinese martial arts, but with the true meaning of the words Great Skill (Kung Fu) it encompaces all things.

I prize any video with martial arts in it, because it gives me a chance to see different forms!
