Penn and Teller Bullshit!: Circumcision

nanrod says...

Here's my anecdotal two bits worth. There is a condition called phimosis (abnormally tight foreskin) which runs in my family. It can lead to chronic infections of the foreskin, urinary tract infections, kidney infections and ultimately lead to loss of kidney function. None of these are guaranteed to happen but they can't be predicted. My father was not circumcised at birth but required the procedure at the age of 15. He swore then that no son of his would go through the same thing so me and 3 brothers were circumcised. When my son was born we decided against it after much research but again he had to be circumcised at 9. Bottom line if a parent opts for circumcision for family medical reasons they shouldn't be condemned or criticized, but lacking a family history like mine I see no compelling reason for it.

Other than aesthetics, of course, uncut dicks are ugly.

Mel Blanc (Looney Tunes) and his 1000 voices on Latenight

Sagemind says...

I've met Mel twice - both times in Vancouver, BC at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The first time He was presenting the Loony-Toon cartoons in their full and uncut versions on the big screen. (Some never seen un-cut before, as TV always hacks and slashes them - more than you've ever realized.) He introduced every one of them and talked at great length about each one. I got to meet and shake his hand.

The second time he was presenting all the operatic Buggs Bunny cartoons with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) playing the music live while the Cartoons played on big screen. Imagine the Barber of Seville played live with Rabbit of Seville playing on FULL SIZE Screen. I have a Lithographed poser of Buggs in a Canoe, signed by Mel as a memento of that event.

At both events he not only shared his voice talent, but went into detail about making each "short". He was very candid and stopped and answered questions in what was a fairly intimate setting.

Experiences I'll never forget!
An amazing speaker with amazing talent and a cherished legacy.

Stewart vs. O'Reilly Uncut

notarobot says...

I often disagree with Bill O. Almost always actually. That being the case, there are a few examples of him conducting a top-rate, respectable interview, which he is apparently completely capable of. I found this one a while back of him speaking with Venus Flytrap from WKRP in Cincinnati.

This is probably about as close as I will come to having anything resembling respect for Bill O'Reilly. I've never watched his show and all the videos I see of him make him seem like a complete idiot (even this one). But, watching him with Jon Stewart, there's a genuine camaraderie between them that, well, makes me not hate Bill so much. They disagree on the issue but, they can argue about it without it getting out of hand. I think it's mostly due to Jon Stewart. He seems to bring out the "best" in Bill O'Reilly, if there is such a thing.

Jon has got the formula for dealing with that uncle everyone in the family hates. It's just a much better way of doing things then just yelling at everyone...if we all did this maybe somehow someway our country might stumble towards sanity.
