Videosifts Sarzys Best And Worst Movies Of 2015

mentality says...

That's not unexpected, because they took the best parts of A New Hope and rehashed it for this movie. What worked for ANH back in the day still works now with a new coat of paint.

It was disappointing movie for me because after you strip away the nostalgia, there wasn't much left. It's still a good movie, but I would not put it in my top 10 list, even though the original trilogy was one of my favorite movies of all time.

I saw it with a friend who's never even seen the original trilogy, and he still loved it.

Hello Dag, I'm not sure how to privately message you from mobile so ill just leave this here. Apparently my home IP was just blacklisted from Videosift. Any time I visit I just get the Classic Rick Roll. This is what I get for trying to join the community I guess. I've been a lurker to this site for, eh, I'd say about 6 years when it was first shown to me. Always like to read the comments and the top 10 list. Anyway, I figured if make an account to post, Vygorous is the username. I just viewed that pixel stick video and wanted to know how much some shitty LED stick would set us back so I looked it up, saw that is was $350.00 and posted it as a comment with the specs they provided on their site, hit submit and bam, Instantly blacklisted. Any logic or reason to this? Sucks leaving this site behind but non sense like this would keep anyone away.
See you around.

Is California Becoming A Police State?

Darkhand says...

Yes you should be able to tell them to get a warrant. If they don't like it? They can stay outside the building or patrol that area until there is a fight again. Private property is MEANT to be that way.

Also I make it a point to not associate with people that would be beating on me and I think everyone should probably put that in their top 10 list.

I shouldn't have my rights infringed on because some woman who is getting beat doesn't have the common sense to leave when the police show up or scream for help again if she's "locked upstairs". Because you know why? If the woman is like that she'll just keep going back to him anyway. So the police showing up doesn't make a damn bit of difference anyway.

The police aren't counselors and they are not parents. People make dumb choices and they have to be held accountable for their actions at some point.

Ickster said:

Yeah, you can do that, and it completely sucks. On the other hand, if I'm actually beating the shit out of my wife and kids and you call, should I be able to tell the police to get a warrant just because the screaming has stopped?

Shelving System to Hide your Valuables, Guns & More Guns

Shepppard says...

>> ^colt45:

So those 82% are all owning guns for murder or war, then? Let's just take this absurd myopic view one step further: Rocks are dangerous weapons that need to be banned! They are readily available to children and highly dangerous!
>> ^L0cky:
Around 6% of US Americans hunt, yet around 34% own a gun; therefore around 82% of gun owners own a gun for something other than hunting. Bringing up hunting is just avoiding the issue.
Besides, I don't think that guy's UZI is for hunting rabbits.
Also, you don't need to teach children how to safely use firearms if they don't have access to firearms. Kinda like how you don't need to teach them how to safely use a particle accelerator, even though they too are dangerous.

Wow. That definitely made my top 10 list of "Really stupid things that I actually read on the internet".

Seriously, when was the last time a kid accidently threw a rock and blew his friends brains out? Accidently put a hole through their own foot / hand / leg?

Sure, they can be used as a close up blunt damage weapon. However, in order to actually kill someone with a rock, it would generally have to be pre-meditated (i.e. kill them when they're asleep, because if you try to kill someone with a rock when they're concious and healthy, it probably wont go well.)

I can think of countless stories over the years involving some idiot irrational gun owner going out and killing someone they knew nothing about, because they felt threatened. Lately, the one I remember is of Trayvon Martin. You know, the kid shot for eating skittles on a street he didn't live on.

But let's go ahead and get back to the point @spoco2 was making earlier. Rocks have existed since the beginning of time. They serve no purpose, they have no design, or goal. They're simply there.

Guns, on the other hand, were designed as an instrument of death. In no part of the gun design was someone thinking "AND it'll function as a paperweight!". It was just another step further in the direction of long ranged combat, specifically for ending the life of another human being.

That's not to say that everybody who does own a gun has it for the sole reason of killing someone, after all, people still collect swords, axes, fascinating weapons from throughout the ages.

But I can't honestly see the amount of collectors being too high.

Star Wars: The Old Republic - Incredible Opening Cinematic

Shepppard says...

>> ^Xax:

Knights of the Old Republic was epic... just a fantastic experience. It remains in my all-time top 10 list.
It's hard to believe this game is being made by the same company. It looks like a very thinly-veiled WoW ripoff, and not even a very pretty one at that (sorry, but the cartoony graphics have looked like shit from the beginning). Where's the innovation, BioWare?

... a fully voiced MMo with a potentially (and being as it's Bioware, I'm more prone to say likey) epic storyline that varies from class to class...

Pretty sure that's innovative.

Terry Gilliam criticizes Spielberg and Schindler's List

dystopianfuturetoday says...

The film A.I. started out as a Kubrick project, a project that Kubrick wanted Spielberg to direct, because he felt Spielberg's directing style would best fit the script. The film never got out of the development phase, because the effects technology of the time were not convincing enough for Kubrick's high standards. After Kubrick passed, Spielberg picked it up and made a very dark, beautiful and underrated film. One of his best IMO.

All of them are artists. All of them are entertainers. I dig all three directors. If I had to make a personal top 10 list, it would probably include The Shining, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Brazil. I don't see a reason to beat down Spielberg just because he is more commercial. Most commercial films suck. (Current box office champs: Tron 2, Yogi Bear, Narnia 3) Spielberg consistently puts out intelligent, meaningful films that can be appreciated by people of all walks of life - not an easy task.

That said, Gilliam's last 3 flicks were horrible. I hope his second shot at La Mancha goes well, the released footage from the 1st abandoned attempt looked really good.

Yeah, the 360 shot? If you're watching a movie and you suddenly become upset due to a 360 shot, I'm thinking maybe you just don't like movies.
Not really the 10 worst cliches, more like 10 random ones (like most top 10 lists).

Opel P-1 - 376 Miles Per Gallon Car in 1973!

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Is that why there's a waiting list for Smart Fortwos? They can't keep up with the demand for them, even if the US model is half as efficient as the European model.

The reason there is a waiting list is because the UAW won't allow that kind of car to be built, and because Diesel engines do not meet US cafe standards. Funny isn't it? Diesel is the most efficient fuel for cars, but we can't use it in the US except in big trucks. Maybe our problem isn't the car companies. Maybe our problem is an asinine Congress.

Anyway - some facts about 'green' cars in the US...

http://www.hybridcar.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=680&Itemid=45

As of August 2008, only about 26,000 TOTAL 'hybrid' cars (all brands, makes, models) were sold in the U.S. as compared to the bottom of the top 10 list (Nissan Sentra) which sold 59,000 units. So the #10 car in America more than DOUBLED the sales of all hybrid cars. That's in a year where gas prices were kicking consumers in the crotch.

http://www.hybridcar.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=680&Itemid=45

European style cars don't sell in the US for many reasons. One - diesel. Two - UAW objections. Three - theyr'e TINY and Americans hate tiny, cramped cars. The market reality is that very few Americans will ever walk into a showroom and buy a tiny Eurocar when they have better options.
