Two Ronnies - Hieroglyphics

Levon.

therealblankman says...

From a cotton farm in Turkey Scratch Arkansas to the very pinnacle of the music world. 71 year old Levon Helm will soon be gone. Thought I'd post this tribute song written by Elton John from his 1971 album "Madman Across the Water".

Story here. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/Entertainment/Music/6474166/story.html

From the above story "Born May 26, 1940, in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, the son of cotton farmers, he learned to play guitar and drums as a child. By 17 he was appearing in honky tonks in and around nearby Helena and taking in performance by such southern legends as Conway Twitty, Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley, and Ronnie Hawkins.

He joined Hawkins’ rockabilly band The Hawks just before they moved to Canada in the late 1950s.

In the early 1960s, Helm and Hawkins recruited Canadians Robbie Robertson (guitar), Rick Danko (bass) and pianist Richard Manuel and organist Garth Hudson. They left Hawkins and toured as Levon and the Hawks before backing Bob Dylan in the mid-60s. Fans weren’t initially receptive to Dylan’s switch from acoustic folky to electric folk-rocker, and Helm headed back south, working on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for a couple of years until bassist Rick Danko asked him to rejoin the group that would become known around the world as, simply, The Band"

Ron Paul Newsletters - Innocent or Guilty?

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Every candidate has to face his or her skeletons once they reach a certain level of prominence. I know many want to believe this is a conspiracy to silence Ron Paul, and that Ron Paul is incapable of doing anything wrong, but this is a legitimate issue. Profiting off a newsletter full of racist rhetoric does not speak well of a person seeking the highest office in the country. I think it's complete bullshit when he says he had no idea what was written in those newsletters. Are we really to believe that no friend, family member or newsletter subscriber ever said, "Oh hey, Ronnie, there was some disturbing racist stuff in your last newsletter. Did you really write that?"?

Ron Paul Interview On DeFace The Nation 11/20/11

@dystopianfuturetoday

The points you made about Reagan are correct, but you left out the most insidious--and pertinent to this conversation--action of the Reaganites*.

When they found they couldn't abolish a department, or regulatory body, they appointed a lap dog to oversee that department. Reagan's head of the Department of Education was William (come on number 7!) Bennett (who went on to be the Drug Czar under Bush the First). Bennett implemented "reforms" to the Dept. of Ed. such as:

Competency testing for teachers
Opening the teaching profession to "knowledgeable" individuals who have _not_ graduated from "schools of education"
Performance-based pay
National examination of students
Holding educators accountable for how the children do on tests.
Parental choice of schools

These all sound innocent enough--but are all terrible ideas. These "reforms" are what opened the "teach to the test" mentality and started the decline of American Education.

These actions (not only in the Dept. of Ed.) also set up the guvment=bad meme.

As to @Grimm's statement, "Why do you have a problem with putting that power back in the hands of the states?" What would have been the result of letting Mississippi set it's own standards on letting Black people vote?

BTW, Dr. Paul kicked Schieffer's ass over the, "Nobody is saying Bomb Iran" fuck-up.

*I don't directly blame Ronnie.
At this point he was playing with Jelly Beans and asking, "What day is it, Mommy?"
