catchy Latvian poprock: Dzelzs vilks - Balerina (2007)

Eklek says...

Yes, we discussed this already with regard to "Yva/Barbie"..:)
The production value of this production (images/sound) is indeed lower..
but I like this song (heavy 80s influences, esp. New Order comes to my mind) better.

But aren't we all living more and more in a global culture?

seems to be more authentic and related to the Baltic climate..reminds me of Kandinsky/folk music.

Atheists nightmare debunked

Irishman says...

Quantummushroom is confusing religion with the belief in God, which are not the same thing.

There has always been a belief in 'the other', 'the cosmic attractor', 'the goddess', and even the worship of the mushroom, the moon and mother earth/Gaia. This is religion in the ancient shamanic sense and is more than 12,000 years old. It is almost certain that it has its roots in the psychedelic experience and is **boundary dissolving**.

Religion as we experience it today has only existed for 2,500 years and is a social control mechanism employed by governments everywhere in the world. With the decline of religion in most of the western world, governments have now invented 'terrorism' as the fear factor. Religion in this sense is **boundary building**.

Existentialism as proclaimed by Nietzsche is a third 'way' that denies both the very real religious/psychedelic experience AND the existence of a god, goddess, or higher cosmic attractor. Atheism does not necessarily equal existentialism, again Quantummushroom is confusing these things.

The third confusion here is 'kill the religion and you kill the civilization'. Almost right - kill the religion and you kill the culture would be more accurate.

Killing religion as Neitzsche says would lead to the death of culture and a descent into chaos. We know something today that Nietzsche didn't know, a little mathematical theory called Chaos Theory which is likely the most important discovery since the wheel. From the natural chaos a new order would arise, one free of culture and boundaries. Chaos is the source of imagination and all creation.

Religion is not based on faith - it is based upon the religious experience. The very real power of this experience has been seized upon and hijacked, and turned into something which takes a lot of faith to swallow, whilst retaining all of its original social power.

Finally, the US education system being crap has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with socialism. I agree with QM that socialism is facism in slow motion. I live in a country where people have fought and died for socialism and we have one of the best education systems in Europe. The reason the US education system is crap is because it is entirely culture bound.

Yva - Barbie (Lithuanian Eurovision performance)

Eklek says...

Yes, debuts generally are the best: these document the vision of the artist. Afterwards this vision is further developed (or copy-pasted too intensively, resulting in a suffocating status quo), sometimes leading to similar but better productions.

Talking about Robbie Williams:
Robbie Williams has gathered a whole team around him: Guy Chambers (wrote "Angel"), William Orbit (produced Madonna's Ray of Light), Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Peter Hook (New Order)..
A strategy to absorb more contemporary "alternative" influences in "his" music, to keep in touch with the current pop stream?
We'll hear what comes out of this collaboration.

Wonderwall is permamently etched in my memory..
..same counts for Blvd of Broken Dreams..
Both songs have a similar catchiness in the melody that is (too?) easily absorbed.

"Sean Penn blatantly states that Bush and Cheney should be in Jail." Spicoli has spoken!!
They should all be in jail, if you'd bother to study the track record of the latest speaker of the house of cards, her pals, backers, Clitless', Feinstein, Boxer...these are the cunts that that have taught the newspeak to ya....and their wealthy, agenda-oriented pals have another twist on fucking us, theirs won't be the MIC, a trainwreck waiting to happen, and most folks are soooooo happy!

Trade bush for cunts, and you still have the STD's and HIV....they are all coming in from behind!

Has not the obvious been made clear to most??/ Race Baiting works for wars like it works for elections....the Muslims may or may not be to blame, but they are goddamn sure as hell being used.......poor bastards...they were made an offer they could not refuse......who made the offer is the enemy, and we aid and abet with asshole, bandwagon, clever retortionist sluts like maher, like Penn(hurts just to say his fucking moron name) and all the vapid hybrid-auto driving, personal-trainer having, vapid and mind-numbed media whores......

Get off the fucking planet, empire!

if the world worked sensibly, sean penn would be a drunk out of work hack, U2 would stick to teen croonin', dictators and fascists would be eradicated before they ever had power or influence, kim ill would be dragged into the streets and eviscerated in the public square by n.koreans with a will that had not been tainted, programmed, the so-called thinking people of the world would not make half-assed justifications like "no WMD's" as an excuse not to send a fuck like Hussein up in a retrofitted weather balloon, there would be no personal agenda involved with regard to political parties, who put the good of themselves and their cronies above that of the people, repubs and dems all the same in their insanity......and the people of the U.S. would not be in the precariously insane position of even thinking of putting a style-slut, money-wasting, empire building, out of touch cunt like Hildegard Clitless in the drivers seat, are you completely without conscience???
It's like fucking Lot when he was sure there would be at least one person who had not sunk to the basest of human mentality, in Sodom.....
And the folks who will usher in the New Order of Socialism in the U.S., will do the same thing as they have always been forced to do...vote for the lesser of evils for president, there being only assholes, idgits, and dangerous slags on the current ballot, and more to come ,no doubt, as we race toward oblivion......

then you get kids who think they do the world a service, by parroting mainstream media........This country is so whacked!!

Most Under-Reported News Story of 2006 - 655,000 Iraqis Dead

"Never in history has a country had outside civilizations help establish a new order of government short of conquering it. So in retrospect, it would have been better to stay out of it or conquer it. Liberating is a process that will take years to come. And I am actually interested to see if the U.S. can pull of something that has never been done in the history of man."

Let's not kid ourselves - humanitarian concerns were not a major factor behind America's illegal invasion of Iraq. The humanitarian argument was only voiced by America when they realised that the international community were not buying their lies about WMD's, and an Al-Qaeda presence in Iraq prior to the invasion. So what were the major motivating factors behind the invasion? Oil was certainly an important factor and one that everyone is aware of. It is clear that many in the Bush administration are closely tied to the oil industry and they saw an opportunity to create a new ARAMCO. But there is another major factor which is often ignored - particularly in the States. Ask yourself, even if Saddam had had WMD would he really have posed a threat to America? Of course not! America was completely beyond his range - he didn't even have the technical capabilities to hit Europe. The only country within his range, and the only one that posed a direct threat to Iraq was Israel. AIPAC put enormous efforts into lobbying Senators and Congressmen to support the illegal invasion of Iraq. AIPAC are now putting the same effort into drumming up support for an illegal 'pre-emptive' strike on Iran.

Saddam kept control by killing those of the opposing faction, the problem is Iraq can't establish a new government until the religious war stops. Which will take years. And once we leave a new dictator or warlord will take helm and who knows what Iraq will be then.

Never in history has a country had outside civilizations help establish a new order of government short of conquering it. So in retrospect, it would have been better to stay out of it or conquer it. Liberating is a process that will take years to come. And I am actually interested to see if the U.S. can pull of something that has never been done in the history of man.

I'm betting the apparent public outcry will stop us short of finding out.

Nirvana: Heart-Shaped Box (by Anton Corbijn)

dotdude says...

A while back I watched an interview with Kurt Cobain. He said that most of the ideas in the video were his. Anton Corbijn came up with the large women and the crows.

The interview was from “The Work of Director Anton Corbijn.” The hooded girl is also another Corbijn touch. There are few music videos on the DVD that have people with hoods. It is one of several European sensibilities discussed on the DVD. See the New Order video, which is also on the Sift:
