MarineGunrock says...

1) I daydream often, but retain full situational awareness
2) There's a 90% chance that I can kill you from 500 yards.
3) I have very little patience for stupid people on the road.
4) I have what are probably the world's flattest feet.
5) I can make farting noises with my neck/shoulder.
6) I can puff my neck out like a bull frog.
7) I can grab my uvula and pull it to the front of my mouth. It grosses people out.
When car alarms go off, I often fantasize about taking my rifle and shooting them.
9) PTSD is a bitch.
10) I'm only 23 and have owned four vehicles.
11) Two of them were/is a Volvo.

22) Got pissed that I didn't win first to get that trip to space camp.
23) People thought I was going to shoot up the school in High School. It worked to my advantage because the assholes that congregated in the middle of the hallway would part like the Red Sea when I walked down the hall.
24) I often get irritated at people and proclaim that I should be Supreme Chancellor of the World so that I could outlaw fat girls in belly shirts, guys in skin-tight pants with white plastic sunglasses, Emo, cheap beer, bottled water, cigarettes, slow drivers, people that don't pay attention to cyclists and anyone/thing else I am currently pissed at.
25) I didn't know I could count this high.

Winter Soldier Conference : The Breakdown of the Military

MarineGunrock says...

What an epic douche bag. Training was inadequate? WWI style? Hello, it's not like we had ever faced a battlefield like Iraq before that. Prior to OIF, conflict in urban areas was limited to minor skirmishes. We've never fought a full war in an urban environment.

After listening to more, sounds to me like he was just a shitbag that couldn't take it. And yes, "taking them to the treeline" is a good practice because it keeps a Marine's record clean. If a Marine fucks up enough that he needs to be taken to the treeline, then what he endures is meant to keep him on edge, to think twice before acting so that he doesn't make the same mistake again. If you always let the command know about it, when it comes time for him to be eligible for promotion, even if he has turned around and is a stellar Marine, they (the command) might still think of him as a shitbag - and then not promote him. Because when you do good, no one knows. When you fuck up, everyone knows.

And underage drinking in the Marine Corps? Where the fuck is underage drinking NOT common!?
Four years and only got LCpl? Yup. Shitbag. Shut the fuck up and quit whining just because you couldn't hack it.

New McCain Ad begins playing in Ohio

kronosposeidon says...

Let me tell everyone here something, because I'm mildly drunk and I feel like it:

McCain is NOT now, nor has he EVER been, a fucking maverick! I don't give a flying fuck that he spoke against the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson in the 2000 election cycle. He was doing that for a reason: To set himself apart from the other candidates, trying to make a name for himself. In other words, he was doing it for POLITICAL reasons. Also, let's not forget that in his second fucking term in the United States Senate he got busted for his involvement in the Keating 5 scandal. That's your fucking maverick, folks.

I am so sick of this narrative about "Maverick McCain." Even some Democrats say "he USED to be" a maverick. WRONG. He has voted the party line just as much as any other Republican Senator, and he has consistently voted for Bush policies. Not just Bush the Douchebag, but Bush the Elder Douchebag too.

Don't let 'em fool you for one second about this "maverick" shit. He's a desperate, crotchety old man with a sense of entitlement. He thinks that just because he's an old veteran (and Obama's not) that he deserves the keys to the Oval Office. Yeah, every old veteran deserves every fucking thing they ask for. Now before someone accuses me of troop-bashing, I'll remind you that I'm a veteran too, so I'll say this: Most veterans aren't cut out to be President. Is that a bad thing to say? NO, only because most PEOPLE aren't cut out to be President. In other words, he ain't getting a veteran's discount from me.

Attacking a fellow veteran, McCain? Rev. Wright also served his country in the United States Marine Corps, asshole.

Dear Mr. Obama

Air Force's $81 million dollar advertising push. 1st ad.

MarineGunrock says...

The Air Force is an outdated and unnecessary branch of the armed forces. Both the Marine Corps and the Navy have their own air wings, and the USMC, Army and Navy all have choppers.

The only thing the Air force has that the others don't is the whole cyber thing. And I could be wrong on that one.

I say dismantle it and transfer needed functions to the other branches.

Meghan McCain: No one but the McCains Know What War is Like

Man detained: speeding because his dog is dieing (Pets Talk Post)

MarineGunrock says...

WTF, oldnavy? Just because I'm a Marine and lean towards the right the bad economy is entirely my fault? Oil spills are my fault?

You got you CAR? Good for you, I'm sure you deserved it. Why the hell would it matter what branch you were in? You were shot at so you deserved it. I have a brother in the Navy - he's the Chief of pastoral care services at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Corpsmen? I respect those guys even more than my fellow Marines. Not only do they have to carry their individual gear like everyone else, they have to pack on an additional 15 or 20 lbs of their medical gear as well. I've heard plenty of accounts of corpsmen having both their legs blown off, and dragging their dying bodies around the battlefield with their arms to patch up wounded Marines. There were two such corpsmen that were awarded recently at a corpsmen ball down by Bethesda.

"You know there are more criminals in on waivers than actual patriots"

Right - because on the enlistment contract there's a box you can check off to say that you're a patriot.

I forgot we could quantify that. Just because someone is a criminal, does not mean they can't have left that all behind them, and wanted to serve their country. Anyone that puts on a uniform, regardless of their past is a patriot in my eyes.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to tell me "Don't call you a democrat" or "Don't label me a a non-voting stalker"
You've been a member here for less than a day. How the fuck would I know anything about you to make such a claim? Secondly, I never did make such a claim.

"I hate you guys that do one enlistment and run your mouth as an armchair patriot"
Don't act like you fucking know me. For all you or anyone else here knows I had to get out for medical reasons. For all you or they know, I had to get out for psychological ones.
Fuck you.
I miss the Marine Corps every day of my life and wish I could go back in.

Baghdad 5 Years Later. Seriously WTF Have We Done to Iraq?

Farhad2000 says...

What has been done to Iraq and its civilians is a clear and defined story. What is not defined is what this meaningless war has done to the best volunteer army in the world, it has shatter the lives of thousands of people who gave their hearts, sweat and blood to make something out of the cluster fuck they were assigned, if not killed, they are horribly injured, if not injured they have PTSD and have to deal with the VA whose funding is not sufficent and the general bureaucracy of the military.

They have done incredible things, from pacification of Fallujah, Sadr Army, Fedayukin, all while riding around from the threat of unseen enemy fighting on tactics designed for confrontation of a uniformed army.

Now they are there trying to make something out of the sacrifice of lives already lost. I feel sorry for what the US Army and Marine Corp and all other uniformed forces had to bear because their leadership and command structure was too weak to argue against a ridiculous assignment by a joke of a president and secretary of defence and national security.

Cars nostalgia (Wheels Talk Post)

MarineGunrock says...

My first car was Daisy May. She was a beauty of a 1987 Volvo 240 GL (Mine was blue). I had that while I was in high school, and sold it for parts (266,000 miles) when I went into the Marine Corps.

When I was in the Marines, I bought a green '96 Explorer. Shitty on gas, but it wasn't that big of a deal, because it was cheap enough. While I had that one, I picked up an '05 Malibu for my now ex-wife. Don't. Ever. Buy. A. Malibu. It's not that it was a piece of shit. I never had to get any work done. It just didn't hold any value and was a very booooorrrrriinnnnggg car.

Then we split, she took the Exploder (because it was worth less) and I splurged on my new baby.
I traded the Malibu in for a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T.
I LOVE this car. They payments hurt, but overall, it's worth it. I have 250 ft-lbs of torque and 208 HP from my 5 cylinder 2.5 L engine, so it's plenty fast, but because of the in0line, I also get great mileage (~22 city 30 hwy)

It's luxurious, has plenty of bells and whistles, and it sure is a looker. I love this car.

>> ^Bidouleroux:
Why would they not be lowlifes when they represent the 18-35 American demographic, minus all the ones that actually have respectful or high paying jobs? Not to say there aren't lowlifes in corporate America, but the lowlife scum tend to stay "unemployed".

Oh, so having a college degree automatically exempts you from being lowlife scum? So all the other people in that demographic that don't have white-collar sit-in-the-AC-behind-a-fucking-desk jobs are lowlife scum, too? Just because they didn't have parents that were capable of sending them to college? OR because they had other matters in life that were more pressing and needed to pay bills?
I'd rather have my blue-collar job over sitting in a tiny fucking cubicle any day.

Anyway, a majority is fifty percent plus one, not ninety-nine percent. And these are enlisted troops, not conscripts, so you're gonna get only people who want to shoot muslims or people who want to serve their country so much that they want to put themselves in (h)arms way

You'd probably be right in that there are people that want to shoot Muslims. HOWEVER, people with this kind of mentality are the ones that are sitting with a huge confederate flag in their yard shooting at beer cans on a fence, not at the recruiter's office. I've never met ANYONE that said "I joined to shoot me some mooslims." And in the Marine Corps, the "why did you join" question gets asked even if you only knew the other guy for 5 minutes.

As for the people that joined because they want to serve their country? We don't do it because was want to do it so much that we WANT" to put ourselves in harm's way. We do it because we love this great nation, even for all it's flaws. We do it knowing that we could be put in harms way. We're not a bunch of masochists in uniform, ya fuckin know.

And I reckon anyone that WANT to shoot someone else, for whatever reason, is by definition a lowlife scum.

So now you're calling America's greatest generation lowlife scum? I would think that the veterans of WWII deserve nothing but honor and respect for their actions, and you should too. If it wasn't for them, you'd all be speaking German and saluting the Swastika right now.

Everyone that is so blind to politics, backroom machinations and human rights abuse that he still wants to enlist in a military without wanting to actually shoot anyone, is also a lowlife or at the very least stupid.

How can someone that honestly doesn't know of back-room politics and abuse of fellow humans be low life scum? What if he did know about it? Maybe he would fucking want to join just to show that there ARE people in the military that don't beat on prisoners? Someone that honestly loves his country so much he is willing to put his life on the line is stupid? This isn't rhetoric, I really do expect you to answer these questions.
Basically, what you just said is that as far as enlisted personnel, you're either stupid or a lowlife.

Put these two kinds of people together and you get shitty operations like Afghanistan and Iraq.

No, put a highly trained and welldisciplined fighting force against an unknown enemy using tactics and techniques that have not been fought against before and you get situations like that.

As we've seen over the past 7 years, the problems only start when you tell your enlisted troops NOT to shoot anyone anymore.

O RLY? Care to actually back asinine claims like that up with actual fucking data?

They tend to get frustrated and remake the Dumb and Dumber movies. As for those that start out "normal", please refer to the Stanford prison experiment.

Again, O RLY? Moar data plz. Or should I say ANY data, please.

Also, you're not countering his point with your question

Maybe because the point of my fucking post wasn't to counter his points. "Troops are low life scum" isn't a point, it's a n opinion, in case that's what you were referring to.

Yes, you may have "heard things", but there's a reason hearsay is not allowed as evidence in a trial: it's actually pretty unreliable. Also, keep and bear in mind that no one likes to think that he himself did "bad things" in a conflict. They always blame the other or perversely blame only themselves.

What the hell does that have to do with ANYTHING said here?

And like your precious Jesus said: “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” I'm sure nowadays plenty of bible-churning rednecks would gladly obey and start throwing stones, but then again I'm sure that for all your other faults at least you're not that kind of person.

Have I thrown a stone here?

Basically, next time, if you don't have any data to back up supposed "facts", STFU.
