You have been terribly hard done by my friend, the actions of the people in that thread absolutely disgusted me.

Whatever you did, that was not the way to fix it. It is clear there was a break down in communications and the rash and STUPID actions of some STUPID people have resulted in this horrible shit happening.

I had something similar occur to me once. I used to hang out with 2 gay girls, they were very close friends of mine but i never harboured anything further. I am far too much of a gentlemen to ever approach or attempt a move on a person in a relationship.

One night, we all got drunk and one stormed off into a side street to be alone and i had to follow her to make sure she was safe. I was the only sober person present. Whilst talking her back to her home, she told me she wanted to leave the girl and hated her but couldn't get away. So i told her "When you're sober, tell me the same thing again and i will help you, but i think this is the drink talking."

When we got in, i said to her in the hallway "Remember - if you say the same thing tomorrow, we'll do it." - i had to be cryptic as her girlfriend was in the front room and i didn't want everything to come out and cause an argument.

I was asked later what this cryptic comment meant and i said oh forget it, it's irrelevant. It looked odd but i said "You know you can trust me," and she could. Shortly after, i was deleted off facebook from both of them, ignored, friends of friends ignored me and shunned me.

It turns out that the girl had been asked what that cryptic comment meant. She didn't want to tell the ugly truth and had accused me of trying to kiss her and been pushed away, and told "Ask me tomorrow."

This story went round a lot of the people that i knew and hung out with and as a result i was completely ostracised due to this girl's lie. I actually could have completely exposed her for the liar she was early on, but i decided not to because i didn't want to ruin their relationship. I'm a martyr to my morals, and how ironic it is that my morals facilitate someone attempting to make me look immoral

Perhaps only similar in a small way, but i felt like sharing. I think you're alright, that disgusting behaviour hasn't affected my opinion of you at all. It's certainly made me think twice about my opinion of THEM, however.

Mine isn't that thrilling, just the view as the sun has just disappeared over the harbour, you can just make out the hills on the other side. This is 5 minutes from my house

Strict adherence to policy is safe harbour for the rank and file. The guard was scared to lose his job, the CPS people were afraid to lose their jobs, nobody wants the responsibility of saying "this is ridiculous and will go no further" etc..

If you had actually followed what has happened, then you would know that thinker has been playing with these rules for a while. I did what I thought was best. He is the one that acted like an idiot, not me. The hobbling may have been excessive, but like I wrote earlier IT IS REVERSIBLE.

Wise words and I totally agree. Sometimes people don't know where the line is and it takes comments like what you and others made in that thread for them to take heed (even if it doesn't make them stop, some people just can't be told!). And sometimes it's just a reactionary thing that is all about harbouring old grudges which I wouldn't take away from anyone even if I think it's a futile thing to do. So that's what I meant by I didn't mean to whitewash you, your comments were totally valid, I was just making the point that we should ignore it after a point and let people behave how they want to behave. I guess i'm just trying to be as tolerant as possible of as many people as possible

Very True. It is a sensitive subject and the tone mink used for that siftalk was wrong. The double standards is what bothers me. Humor has always been around this place, and it was amusing for pretty much everyone, including myself but up to a certain point. (90 comments and less than half of them about the topic while the rest is spam is just too much) Lots of different discussions take place here everyday and there is always humor, it is almost required, but there is always a certain balance to it. Spamming the shit out of a thread is a whole different thing, and then is not so amusing anymore.

I think it's just MINK's overall attitude that has rubbed people up the wrong way and caused them to piss over his queries. I just think that we can rise above that type of shit and let them get on with it. It did amuse me in the beginning, so i'm probably pretty infantile myself. Just to clarify, this is a Palestinian Doctor who is very reasonable in regards to a peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. He has been living in Israel for some time.

Last week, his family home in Gaza was struck by Israeli shell. The casualties were promptly transported to an Israeli hospital, but he lost 4 family members in the hit (see here for a report). The second part of this video is an Israeli citizen accusing his family of harbouring weaponry or participating in attacks against the IDF.

While I don't want children myself, and being atheist, I have thought about this conundrum. I was raised believing in Santa Claus, and came to the realization on my own that he did not exist. I didn't harbour ill-will towards my parents for pertpetuating the lie throughout my childhood either (I harbour enough ill-will towards them anyways for other crap ).

I thought that it would be a good lesson in critical-thinking skills. That is, if they could come to the conclusion as I did. Though I'd nurse those skills as they grew up, and when they questioned things about Santa (as I'd hope they would) I'd answer truthfull and honestly, using as much explaination as necessary.

I would also use the experience to teach them about the lies and trickery used in other aspects of life, such as Religion, and how it is used to control and deceive children into believing all kinds of nonsense. With these new-found tools and examples, I'd hope to instill a harder outlook on society and reality with battle-tested critical thinking capabilities.

But, then again, I decided that children are a waste of my time and resources, so I won't ever get to try that particular experiment. (With good reason, I'd probably spend most of the time doing social experiments on my child while raising them.)
