I first heard of Singh from the BBC documentary of Fermat's Last Theorem. I was so impressed that I bought The Code Book and have had an obsession with crytography ever since. Great reading!

love Singh's work. I've read 3 of his books; Fermat's Last Theorem, The Code Book and Big Bang. in each he traces the history of the subject from as far back as possible right up to present day thinking. really easy to read too.
as I recall, I couldn't put them down at the time. highly recommended.
