Dan Savage on the bible at High School Journalism convention

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Let's see...

A bunch of students were invited to a seminar that described as being about "bullying". They are instead exposed to anti-religious bigotry and sexual innuendo. Rather than sit and listen to insults directed at their belief system, they decided to leave. As they leave, the speaker taunts them further and uses profanities. Oh - yeah - that's not bullying. :eyeroll: This guy is a class-A hypocrite and a jack@$$.

Let's change the parameters slightly. A bunch of journalism students are invited to a speech about Community Service, and the speaker is an Iraq War veteran who starts calling the Koran a bunch of bullcrap, and talking about how much he likes to dress up his lover in a burqa (wink wink). 100 or so Muslim students are offended and get up to leave, and the guy calls the audience's attention to them and starts calling them a bunch of pansy-@$$ cowards. Ha ha ha. Still "not bullying"?

I feel sorry for the kids, but frankly I hope this slimeball keeps doing stuff like this. It proves to everyone (except for the radical, leftist fringe lunatic crowd) just what a sleaze he is. He's a bigot just as bad as the bigots he claims to condemn. He isn't against bigotry and hate. He's just against any bigotry and hate of which he hasn't personally approved. That makes him a demagogue, and his audience is simply other bigots... Bigots like this...

"Can we just hurry up and make it a high crime to be religious already?"

Classic anti-religious hate and bigotry on parade. Savage of course is constantly going around fomenting such sad, unfortunate, hate-filled suckers. Amazing that these same zealots can mourn the difficulty of achieving a 'peaceful society', and yet fail to see that the primary reason for all this violence is staring at them every time they look in the mirror.

Gamer Girl Manifesto

Pfft, the real problem here is these nerds just simply aren't getting enough sex, and who's fault could that be. Looking at you "the other 51%". I mean honestly, if I got laid more often I'm sure I wouldn't flirt outrageously with every single girl on the interwebs (and hey, sometimes they flirt back :3) with the insane fantasy that maybe, just maybe, we'll fall madly in love and she'll move to my place irl and then we can like, totally hold hands and shit.

I think its that or we should force every female avatar to where the full burqa, you know, so men aren't provoked into lechery.

Ps. my sword aint that long, but its got a very high attack speed. *wink wink*

Man has racist meltdown on French subway system...

The first video features a white woman in a crowd of white people. She singles out a lone black woman and then proceeds to bully and berate her. She makes it clear that these attacks are done in the name of her country and the white race, which is a cruel way to insinuate that she has the approval of the rest of her countrymen and fellow white people on that tram.

>>> That's a pretty bold assumption on your part. You believe she thought the orwellian serfs would back her up somehow? She is surrounded by Black people on that train--including one that could choke her or cut her throat from behind--and for good measure, there's a woman wearing a burqa in the background. It is more likely she had some mental disability, putting her kid in danger.

Thankfully someone stepped in and called this woman's bluff, which served to change the tenor of this exchange from a tense game of intimidation to a lone racist babbling nut.

The guy in the second video BEGINS his exchange as a lone racists babbling nut. He is a single black man in a crowd of white people.

He shouts out terrible things that he obviously has no intention or ability to carry out. No one takes him seriously. There is no bullying and no tension. People are laughing at him.

>>> Watch it again. There are other Black people on the train. And the nut's targets are not laughing. At all.

>>> Once again, you're making assumptions of questionable merit. First, you can't tell the level of someone's combat experience merely by sight, and if he's truly crazy he'll be immensely strong. Second, he's holding a glass bottle. He could've just as easily struck the woman to his left, with or without breaking the bottle first.

>>> Trying to summon up stormfront as a scary demon is laughable. Compare their ranks, which I assume aren't close to a few thousand, to the budgets and memberships of the NAACP, ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center.

You may believe you're "calling me out" and that's fine, you have every right to speak up. Individuals and group behaviors we can debate all day. However, the elephant in the room, with his buttocks spread across both videos, is the fact the French nutball was not condemned--by anyone--for his antics and there were no police looking for him after the fact.

You can be against intolerance or indifferent to it, but not selectively intolerant.

Let me break this down.

Context matters. If I say 'I'm going to kill you' in a dark alley with a gun pointed to your head, it means something very different than if I say it after you accidentally spill coffee on my new shirt.
The above video has been bouncing around the hate cesspools of the internet - like Stormfront - in an attempt to show parity between these two very different events; parity between an empowered bully and a powerless fool.
Now you could have framed this as 'hey look at this crazy drunk racist guy, what an idiot' and you would have had no problems, but that's not how you chose to frame it, and as a result, this post didn't go that well for you. I'd rather not have to call you out like this. It's obviously upsetting to you. But when racial issues that resonate with the Stormfront crowd also resonate with you, you might have problems. Sort yourself out.

Screen all swarthy Middle Easterners ages 16-50 and women wearing burqas (aka MUSLIMS) in separate lines. Celebrate diversity with Israeli airport security standards.

Until then, enjoy the poisoned fruits of political correctness.

Yeah, I've heard this argument before, but no matter which way I look at it I just can't make any sense out of how you are supposed to make people MORE FREE by FORBIDDING THEM TO DRESS HOW THEY WANT.
It's not the right place to start and it's not the right way to go.

That's a fine thought process..
If that's what the women actually want.
Who knows what the women want? with their culture generally they're stifled out by the 'dominant' men. There was an episode of no reservations once, I don't remember exactly where his was, but the women all had to wear burqas. Black, full body burqas, in one of the hottest places on earth, while the men got to wear whatever they wanted, be it a white robe, or westernized clothing.
I can't help but think that the woman probably DO want to wear something completely different, but don't speak out because it's A) against the religion, or B) going to upset the 'dominant' males.
This is a way I see for them to finally have some form of freedom, even relinquishing a bit of their religions control, because there's finally a reason to defy it.

What do they want? The ones that actually wear the burqas probably wouldn't be able to tell you. If even from childhood your own father and most of the other men in your life (and maybe the women too) are telling you that you're a second-rate citizen or less of a person because of you're gender, I imagine that after a while you start to believe it.

It sort of depends on the strictness of their up-bringing. When you see little girls who are 2-years old wearing headscarves, you know that they're going to be the teenagers wearing them. When the parents don't care, they're in jeans and t-shirts and that really pisses off some of the older generation. A few months ago I overhead two elderly Turkish women on the tram complaining that "too many good Turkish girls dress like infidels these days."

Belgium: Burqa Ban in Public Places

Morganth says...

I'm an American ex-pat living in Belgium and while headscarves are pretty common, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a burqa with the face-veil (though it may be more common in Brussels which is almost 25% Muslim).

Police here do NOT like not knowing who you are. When police ask, you're required to show them your ID with a computer chip in it, which you have to have on you at all times. So this bill is partly because Europeans always want to know about you (when you move somewhere, you always have to register with the local townhall for example) and they want to see someone's face. But it is also because they're unhappy with the growing Muslim community. The majority of Middle Eastern immigrants don't have an interest in integrating into Belgium society.

Also, France just passed a burqa ban in June making them the first European country to do so. The bill is still in limbo here in Belgium because of this summer's election.

Belgium instituted a temporary worker program in the 60's that brought over lots of Turks to help with the growing economy because Belgium's population was still hurting from World War II. Both the Turks and the Belgians wanted it to be temporary (the Turks wanted to make lots of money then return home and the Belgians wanted the economic help and then to for the workers to leave), but it didn't quite go as planned. Anyway, that's a little bit of where this came from...

Granted it's not a good way to fix anything, but you can see their thought process- Forbid men from requiring their wives to wear burqas by banning the burqa. Of course they'll just force their wives to never leave the house...
