Does it bother you that a high % of sifted videos are straight from Reddit? (User Poll by rottenseed)

Deano says...

Reddit will also feature dupes though. I've sifted a few videos this way and I just see it as a another source.

But I mainly just rely on my Youtube subscriptions and random browsing but I thank those that filter out the good stuff from Reddit.

Also Reddit does not do a good job of organising those videos and I'm sure with VS 5.0 we'll have even better ways of filtering and sorting video (right @lucky760?)

What Reddit is awesome for is the funny pics, stories and AMAs and the comments can be very funny. Which is not surprising given the traffic monster that Reddit has become.

Broked down car and assholes (Talks Talk Post)

Triple A is great for situations like that. A lot of people are afraid to let strangers into their cars after dark.

I have never had a vehicle break down in my 15 years of driving. I have had to tow a car because someone decided it was time I drove into their car, but never have I had a fuel pump shit out on me. AMA (Alberta motor association) is not worth the money in my mind, a cell phone is the course I will take from now on. I understood that mentality DFT when I was the one in the cab looking at the sucker with the thumb out, but being on the other side of the glass changed that view. I came to the conclusion while walking that distance that " if no one helps me when I need help, if people can turn a blind eye for fear of what the Internets and other radical thinking bullshit they construed in their heads... next time I am in a position to help I will "

It really kicks you in the nuts when someone pretty well tells you to fuck off when you need help. My balls are black and blue.

I started to come up with a plan for a vest the has led's on it that flashes " help " while you are walking along the side of the road to alert others you are in need and that it signals you are there. But at the and of my journey today I figured I would make the vest with LED's and have it say " fuck off, keep driving " all the while letting others know you are on the shoulder walking.

The Louis Experiment - What does it mean? (Standup Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Nice write-up. Although I think it's great that Louie is skipping the middle-man, my worry is that this approach doesn't scale.

Imagine if the top 30 comedy headliners all did this on their own websites. The novelty is gone and the content does not get the adoring press on sites like ours. Having to track down individual websites and go through their registration process is not really hard, but probably too much to ask the lazy invisible hand of self-interested consumers.

When that happens you have to think about aggregating that content, marketing plans, promotion and then ... you're back in the same boat with needing a distribution engine and lots of middle men.

On justifying torrenting, Daring Fireball pulled out a great quote from that Louie AMA on Reddit:

To steal from someone and not feel bad, you either have to be a sociopath or view the act differently. One way is to remove “Someone” from the equation. You’re not stealing from a person. Big companies do a lot to help people view them as less than human. I heard a speech by Noam Chomsky who said that corporations are like super humans. They cannot be hurt like a human can and they never die. They are not susceptible to scrutiny or accountability. This makes them more profitable. If companies want to enjoy these benefits to some degree they have to live with what else comes with being not human. You miss out on compassion, forgiveness, camaraderie, empathy, trust all kinds of shit.

That's how I justify my limited torrenting. It's a faceless company. I try to limit it to TV. And also tell myself that if something like Hulu was available in Australia I would pay and watch through that mechanism. For many shows, torrenting is the only path available for me to watch in this country.

Edgar's mom is a B!@#h!

just to put a face to that video recording B th of a mom, check this - she's basically the first blondish girl with the glasses. [url redacted] her other videos are awful as well... I wonder in what area do you live that to be speaking like that means your'e cool and hip.

The person in this video, is not his mother. It's his brother! @1:35 you hear him calling out for his mother in spanish, "ama! ama!", when the teasing(abuse is too much). I visited the youtube account you referenced, and upon further review, these are all videos posted by his crossdressing brother Victor(calls himself Vicky). It's an abusive household nonetheless. Big brother's got issues, to say the least

HIV Kills Cancer

swedishfriend says...

they use HIV viruses that have been "neutered" and will not infect you.

Also hundreds of studies and experiments show cannabis cures cancer but companies are truly not interested in cures they cannot patent. It is not a cynical viewpoint it is the truth. Even the pink ribbon organization has officially stated they do not wish to endorse or even mention a cure when asked about the studies that show that cannabis cures cancer. There is a cure that the AMA and american cancer society has acknowledged since the 1970's yet people continue to suffer through chemo and radiation therapy and continue to die simply because Nixon was so anti-cannabis and the corporations would loose money if people could be cheaply cured. I am the least cynical person you are likely to find, there is just tons of evidence I found and keep finding that is incredibly sad when it comes to this issue.

-Karl

ps. If you know about this stuff it is actually quite reassuring in a personal way since cancer, diabetes, nerve damage, etc. are successfully treated with cannabis but it is very sad to think of all the people suffering needlessly.

I disagree @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://videosift.com/member/DerHasisttot" title="member since May 11th, 2010" class="profilelink">DerHasisttot, the push for legislation can be a fantastic way of grabbing people's attention, thereby legislating and educating simultaneously. Despite the fact that every professional medical organization in the world (such as the AMA) finds no medical justification for circumcision, it is still routinely performed without question. A legal rumpus may be just what this issue needs to enter the public consciousness.
But you may be right in that this will take several attempts to pass before enough people realize what barbaric bullshit they are using as justification for mutilating their children. Perhaps it will morph into a bill where there are special exemptions for religious purpose. I'd be fine with that. The point is to get people to stop thinking of it as normal and medically justified. In fact just the opposite, the procedure carries the risk of death (rare as it may be). All of the supposed risks that are used to justify circumcision can be remedied by basic hygiene, and it's long past time that people were aware of that.

I fully agree. In my mind I compare it with the drive to legalise Marihuana, which is somewhat comparable, in the way that both issues are depending on widespread support.

I grant you the attention-grabbing possibilities, but to be honest, the activist in the video was not the right man for the job.
