American Commercial Misrepresents Canadian Healthcare

brycewi19 says...

OK. I did "learn more". Patients United Now was launched by a conservative group called American for Prosperity.

From wiki:
In 2003, an internal rift between Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) and its affiliated Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation led to a split in which the latter organization was renamed as a separate organization, called Americans for Prosperity.

Its foundation's chair and founder is David Koch of Koch Industries, which runs oil refining and pipeline companies. Another Americans for Prosperity Foundation board member is Richard Fink, a Koch executive who serves as a director of the refining subsidiary. Fink helps control AFP's purse strings. He is president of the Koch-affiliated Claude R. Lambe Charitable Foundation, which gave AFP's foundation $2.2 million from 2005-06, according to the Foundation Center.

On February 27, 2009, in collaboration with others, the organization sponsored a Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas and Washington, D.C. Tea party protest.

AFP aims to promote a sound economic policy that supports business and regulatory restraint by government, according to its literature. This organization leans conservative. AFP opposed the $787 billion stimulus package for economic recovery.

The organization has chapters in 22 of the 50 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Americans for Prosperity is led by Tim Phillips, who was a former partner with Ralph Reed's Century Strategies. That organization became well-known when it was revealed in a Senate investigation that convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff was laundering money through Century Strategies and Americans for Tax Reform to oppose legislation that his Indian tribe clients wanted to defeat.

Gah, I was going to edit out my silliness before you saw it, no I was using Firefox and completely forgot I was sorry. Just checked and it's still there in Chrome/Iron of course.

Really? I don't think the fix has gone in yet. Glad it's working regardless.

In reply to this comment by RedSky:
Yep, all working fine now, thanks.

Just an update. We were finally able to duplicate this on regular Chrome, it happens when opening a new tab from a link to a video page. Is that when it's happening for you? Anyway - fix is on the way.

In reply to this comment by RedSky:
Yep, my browser's maximised.

Here's an example: http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/787/embedsizesmall.jpg

Have you tried making your browser window bigger and then reloading? The video scales to whatever size it can fill in your browser.

Some videos come up in very small embeds. Not all the time though, I refresh and it's fine.

I'm still getting this issue a lot, odd that nobody else seems to have brought it up. I use Iron, which is a no spyware version of Google Chrome if that helps.

It's working OK on regular versions of Chrome as far as we can tell. Maybe it's Iron. Can I have a version number?

FOX's Glenn Beck Goes "NUTS" On Caller To Radio Show

Nithern says...

If you have to raise your voice over another in a debate....you lost the arguement, and being immature on top of that. When you insult the other person (mocking is insulting), you lost the arguement.

Mr. Beck wants to attack Mass Health (the health care model the Democrats are looking at for a national model) of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Obama spent $787 Billion on the Stimulus pack. Mr. Bush spent $3 Trillion (that's $3,000,000,000,000) on the Iraq war. Mr. Obama's funds go to help Americans directly. Mr. Bush, about 1/3 of it went to other countries.

Trust me, folks in the other 49 states....take the Mass Health care model, you will find a better system of health.

Mr. Beck, like the majority of talk-radio that has a sharply conservative/republican bent, have not used logical and sound reasoning since the Reagan Administration. Their ideas seem to fall far short of being productive to the USA, and yet, they feel the rest of us, should take them seriously. And yes, they behave, alot like how Mr. Beck did to Cathy.

Congress Prepares to GUT the Fourth Amendment!

NetRunner says...

The liberal blogs are all sending out "call your representatives, NOW" messages.

Kos had a conspicuously brief comment on it:

When we started this "netroots" thing, we worked to get "more and better Democrats" elected. At first, we focused on the "more" part. This year, we're focusing a bit more on the "better" part. And in 2010, we'll have enough Democrats in the House to exclusively focus on the "better" part.

That means primary challenges. And as we decide who to take on, let it be known that this FISA vote will loom large. Voting to give telecommunication companies retroactive immunity may not guarantee a primary challenge, but it will definitely loom large.

We kicked Joe Lieberman out of the caucus. We got rid of Al Wynn this year. Those were test runs, so to speak. We've got a lot more of that ready to unleash in 2010.

We're going to have to count on the Ron Pauls, the Dennis Kuciniches, Chris Dodds, Russ Feingolds, Robert Wexlers, and Pat Leahys to pull out some sort of gambit to block this (again).

It's shameful that this is being done, and that they're trying to give themselves immunity, when there's not likely to be a court decision that penalizes anyone for it in a meaningful way. Hell, no one was going to wind up charged with treason for betraying their oath to the Constitution.

We'd just fine AT&T a month's profit from iPhone service, and say "justice served."

At least that way, it'd be on the record as being something the government is still saying is against the law, rather than just written on some piece of hide stretched out in a display case in DC.

If there are any sifters out there who feel this should be stopped, please, call your representatives, for numbers, go here.

Totalitarianism In America: Vaccinate or Go To Jail

MycroftHomlz says...

Hviid A, Stellfeld M, Wohlfahrt J, Melbye M.

Danish Epidemiology Science Centre, Department of Epidemiology Research, Statens Serum Institut, Copenhagen, Denmark. aii@ssi.dk

CONTEXT: Mercuric compounds are nephrotoxic and neurotoxic at high doses. Thimerosal, a preservative used widely in vaccine formulations, contains ethylmercury. Thus it has been suggested that childhood vaccination with thimerosal-containing vaccine could be causally related to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether vaccination with a thimerosal-containing vaccine is associated with development of autism. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Population-based cohort study of all children born in Denmark from January 1, 1990, until December 31, 1996 (N = 467 450) comparing children vaccinated with a thimerosal-containing vaccine with children vaccinated with a thimerosal-free formulation of the same vaccine. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Rate ratio (RR) for autism and other autistic-spectrum disorders, including trend with dose of ethylmercury. RESULTS: During 2 986 654 person-years, we identified 440 autism cases and 787 cases of other autistic-spectrum disorders. The risk of autism and other autistic-spectrum disorders did not differ significantly between children vaccinated with thimerosal-containing vaccine and children vaccinated with thimerosal-free vaccine (RR, 0.85 [95% confidence interval [CI], 0.60-1.20] for autism; RR, 1.12 [95% CI, 0.88-1.43] for other autistic-spectrum disorders). Furthermore, we found no evidence of a dose-response association (increase in RR per 25 microg of ethylmercury, 0.98 [95% CI, 0.90-1.06] for autism and 1.03 [95% CI, 0.98-1.09] for other autistic-spectrum disorders). CONCLUSION: The results do not support a causal relationship between childhood vaccination with thimerosal-containing vaccines and development of autistic-spectrum disorders.

Boeing 777 Wing Stress Test

World's Largest Airliner - Take that Boeing!

flavioribeiro says...

Actually, Airbus is having financial troubles because of their massive investments in the A380 project. Their CEO recently resigned, they'll pay massive penalties due to the delivery delays and they'll be forced to do some downsizing.

Boeing, on the other hand, has an unprecedented amount of orders for the 787 Dreamliner, which is designed for fuel efficiency. Airbus won't be able to deliver a competitor to the 787 in many years, meaning that Boeing will be in much better shape in the future.
