Far Cry 2

It's bloatware, with a shitty interface.  They really should have put more thought into the multiplayer server-finding interface.

 It is:

1. Hidden below 4 or 5 layers of menus with a bloatware "animated book" thing slowing down every command.

2. Lacking any ability to filter by ping, number of users playing, etc.  These are basic features that have existed in every good multiplayer game for over 10 years.

Any multiplayer game without a good interface for finding servers is like a car without any engine.  They really should put at least as much effort into the server-finding interface as they put into the bloatware graphics.   The original Call of Duty, the original Unreal Tournament, and CS:S are all superior to Far Cry 2 for multiplayer.

So it was a total waste of money.   TF2 is still king.

I hate all the crappy animated UI screens on the front of most games. Adds absolutely nothing to the game itself and in many cases hinders the games enjoyment.

It's also clear that most of designers who make these designs don't know the first thing about human/computer interactions. Yes means no, green means stop, etc etc.

Well Far Cry 2 is a console game first and a PC game second.

Most games that are developed first for console systems always suffer in the transition, since they are built around very limited keypad controls. Thus most of the problems always boil down to UI and control problems.

PC exclusives almost always have better UI implementations.

Speaking of TF2, I got BITCHED AT last night on the BarRoom which has been my fav TF2 server since another sifter who I've forgotten introduced me to it ages and ages ago.

Why?

Because of my videosift.com spray!

"No advertising" the idiotic server admin decreed. Excuse me? The MoTD on server login stating their rules states no such thing, and if you think a videosift.com spray is an ad, well, <grumble>

Screw this, I'm going to play some Sid Meier's Railroads now...

I was planning on getting Far Cry 2 when it drops down to $20. Is there $20 of fun in there somewhere?

Well, if you think driving around for hours to get between missions stopping every 30 seconds to take out some guys at a guard post that shoot at you as soon as they see you, even if you are doing work for them, and then basically doing the same mission over and over again then yes it's incredibly fun.
