Vodka is nice, but boring...incredibly boring. If you want some flavour and enjoyment when it comes to liquor I would recommend cognac. Never been much of a whisk(e)y man myself, but it can be very nice from time to time.

No mentioning of wine? You call yourself Italian?! Italy makes some incredible wine, my favourite being the nebiolo grape wines from the Piemonte district. The word 'barolo' makes me want to get a plane ticket right now...

Drinking is not a problem as long as it's about enjoyment, once it becomes part of your usual routine because you have to do it, it is a problem.

Whiskey. Love it. A good corn (mash) whiskey has a subtle sweetness to it and the glass smells of caramel.

Belgium beer is great. New Belgium's Lips of Faith (Dandelion, Wild Ale) is the best around.

And a good Zinfindel is bliss.

I just started smoking again.

Yeah vodka is kinda what you make of it, unless you drink it pure because it's that good of a vodka. I'll definitely give cognac a try. I dont think I've consciencely drunken it. Oh well, I haven't mentioned wine because it was literally forced down my throat in my semi italian upbringing, which included very very great food, and lots of respect for women (which I guess is due to my italian father being raised by a single catholic mom).

I don't think I'll ever grow to like whiskey, but beligum beer sounds tempting. Just watched "In Bruges" again these days. I don't know how easy it'll be to get it, since german beer is pretty dominant here in Germany, apart from the commercial foreign brews such as Heineken, but I'll definitely try.

"Believe it or not, I have fond memories of Miller beer..."

I'll pray for you.

Funny, but I was just thinking about how people have their preferences. I was talking to a girl the other day and I told her that I liked "herb." She seemed to like me at first, but suddenly cooled down after I said that. I can't remember what she said, but she basically equated pot smokers with losers.

I was trying to think of an analogy between the weed and how different people like different types of alcohol.

I can drink vodka all day, never feel drunk, and fall of my barstool suddenly shitfaced. Can't stand the smell of bourbon whiskey, but I love scotch. Scotch makes me like to argue. Tequila makes me like to laugh and dance. Beer is just a stand-by. Don't hate wine, but I don't really understand it--I'm just not the kind of guy who will ever spend a lot of money on a bottle of wine.

And by the by...the number 13 has been tragically maligned for far too long.

As they say, American beer is like sex in a rowboat - they're both fucking close to water.

I enjoy a pint of Guinness or a very cold Carlsberg. (The in-joke at my office, when being offered a Carlsberg is to say - "Carlsberg, perfect" a la Richmond from the IT Crowd.)

^There are some incredible American beers. The shit like Bud and Miller aren't those beers, however. I think since dag slipped into his expat status, he's become a self-hating American, so any chance he can jab at the US he takes it. He's like Michael Moore that way.

^Yeah, unfortunately the only American beers that make it overseas are the big brands like Bud or Miller. (I had a Miller Chelada a few weeks back).

I don't hate America. It definitely is a very different perspective when you're looking in from the outside though. I may even actually come back to live there one day - if the Department of Fatherland Security lets my family in.

^ Welcome, you horse!

I don't know about your little government, but I thought it was parliamentary.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no Democrats or Republicans in that certain mix or make.

Personally, I see that as a win/win.

Belgian ale or a good dark stout are my go to beers, but I have a warm place in my heart for draft Yuengling lager or a well poured black and tan.
Unfortunately, the only Belgian beers in my local beer store are Leffe (which is ok I guess) and like 5 others that are over $100 a case. I'm told Dilirium Tremens is fantastic.
