yeah that movie scared the shit out of me when I was ~14. Imagine what it must be like to be stuck there in complete darkness for months during the winter.

It's fascinating to read books like "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and realize that the South Pole was until very recently the stuff of science fiction novels. In a single century we both discovered the south pole and explored the furthest reaches of the solar system.
