An incredible scene from the season 2 finale. In it, the president has just attended the funeral his close friend and longtime secretary, Mrs. Landingham. He's also mired in a scandal over his decision not to tell the American people about the fact that he'd been diagnosed with MS before he was elected. As a result, he must decide whether or not he should step down and cede the office of the president to VP Hoynes.

A translation of the Latin follows below. It's from youtube, but it looks basically right.

"Gratias tibi ago, domine."
Thank you, Lord (sarcastically).

""Haec credam a deo pio, a deo justo, a deo scito?"
Am I to believe these things from a righteous God, a just God, a wise God?

"Cruciatus in crucem."
To Hell with your punishments.

"Uus in terra servus, nuntius fui; officium perfeci."

The Hell with your punishments! And to Hell with you! (literally, "may you go to a cross!")
