Science Curiosity: Carbon Dioxide in the Liquid Form

This is what it looks like inside your fire extinguisher. Solid CO2 never goes through a liquid phase at normal atmospheric pressures, it sublimates directly to a gas. At elevated pressure, above the critical point, the liquid WILL form. A sudden release of the pressure resolidifies the liquid, forming the familliar dry ice snow that comes out of fire extinguishers.
