I was 18 in 81, but stuck in small town Colorado, yippie-aye-ado.

I remember the punk scene from that perspective, distant and removed.

Reagan took office that year and our country instantly went to shit. I remember that.

In Colorado, all the real punks came from the shittiest parts of the shittiest suburbs. They all played downtown and on Colfax, but few of them lived there.

Punk was an atavistic reaction to a world steeped in unfairness, and growing worse.

The pristine Christians and Silent Majority greedy fuckfaces had turned our country into a jungle of dog-eat-dog "trickle down" economics.

Punk was the howling, wolf-like abreaction.
