R-KADE-R: Handbuilt, wooden portable arcade console

BoingBoing: Love Hulten's R-KAID-R is a €2500, hand-build portable wooden arcade console that emulates Neo Geo, Atari 2800, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and PlayStation 1.

The system, which is the size of a medium paintbox, has its own 8" LCD, a joystick and control buttons built in, and can be slung over your shoulder for portability (the joystick also cleverly doubles as a latch to hold the case closed, as well as a handle for the system). It comes with a bunch of classic games, but you can load your own ROMs with an SD card. Goes on sale in September 2014, but it's open for pre-orders now.

The iCade is WAY WAY better, bigger screen, Arcade stick and buttons,, MUCH cheaper, AND DOESN'T LOOK LIKE AN OLD LADIES MAKEUP BOX

I've built just this device, but far better for $800-$1200 USD max, and this was around 2005.

It can be difficult to build these, but my experience doing so is almost a decade old (fuck you, time!). Despite that, this person is clearly selling the construction quality over the technical ability. As far as building your all-inclusive emulation box, especially considering the world today, the difficulty of doing such is negligible.
