PBS: Anti-Abortion Attacks as Domestic Terrorism

The murder of Dr. George Tiller has reignited the abortion debate, and raised the question: should violence against medical doctors who perform abortions be viewed and prosecuted as domestic terrorism? This week NOW Senior Correspondent Maria Hinojosa sits down with two of the remaining handful of doctors who publicly acknowledge performing late abortions, including Leroy Carhart, a fellow doctor in Tiller's Wichita, Kansas clinic.

Carhart discusses his vow to carry on Tiller's mission and what it's like for him and his family to live as "targets". The show also investigates claims that law enforcement dropped the ball when it came to stopping Tiller's alleged murderer, Scott Roeder.

Hinojosa travels to Colorado as well to talk with Dr. Warren Hern, another late abortion provider who says he's been living "under siege" for decades. Dr. Hern works behind four layers of bulletproof windows and is now under round-the-clock federal protection.

NOW goes into the eye of the abortion rights storm to see how Tiller's killing and its ramifications are impacting doctors, free speech, and a civilized society.

Note: The term "rightwing", as used to define a specific type of extremism, comes from the April 7, 2009 Department of Homeland Security report (pdf) entitled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

If we regulate what women do with their wombs

Then we must regulate what men do with their balls

Short of that, women are second class citizens

It is slavery to have to ask permission

To choose

What one may, or may not, do with one's own body.

This piece is propaganda for sure, which wouldn't be so irritating except it's partially taxpayer-funded. How odd that the same libs who bent over backwards to disprove any link between radical Muslims and violence now want to malign an entire political movement from the actions of a lone nutjob.

As a right-wingnut, my complaint is not that the term 'right wing' is used by lefties, but that never never never are the terms "left-wing" and "liberal" heard anywhere but on talk radio. At least rougy and other VS'ers are bold enough to stand up for what they believe and use left-words without hiding associations like Barack n' Company do.

In a freer world, it would be true that people own all the rights to their own bodies, but here and now it ain't so.

In most places, people can't sell use of their bodies as sexual toys or their other organs for money. Prescription drugs obviously require approval for use by State-regulated doctors (and misused 'scripped drugs kill more than all illegal drugs combined).

The State wants total control over everything while taking no responsibility for anything. Darn them to heck!

There is little question that Scott Roeder is mentally ill, however to say he acted alone and had no substantial connection with anti-choice groups is questionable. This is a man who had a spotty employment record (he had four jobs in the last six months) and virtually no assets other than a 16-year-old car. Yet he managed in the last month to make several 400-mile round trips to Wichita from the KC area. An affidavit signed by Roeder states he made $1100 a month, but nearly half of what he earned went right back out in rent and monthly bills. Where did this man get the money needed to finance these trips, money for gas, money for meals, money for lodging, money for a gun?
As Mark (Deep Throat) Felt told Bob Woodward, “Follow the money.”

I took a sad, sad, trip to a clinic once. My first impression of the waiting room was that these were very average, normal, women. They were our sisters and mothers and wives. They were the kind of women that you work with and live with and pass on the street every day.

There were also protests outside. It was January and they were chanting and holding placards. I was outside smoking a cigarette and decided to start a snowball fight. A couple of guys came outside when they saw what was going on. We completely routed them. Pro lifers have no arm. I also think both sides appreciated the opportunity to vent.
