GI JOE THE MOVIE (Intro) (Cobra are the good-guys™ )

GI JOE the movie is an interesting one. It's included in waronterror not simply because as the intro seys, the "enemy" are considered a terrorist organization, but because if you watch the movie with an open mind, its clear that "Cobra Command" are the good guys, that they were here first, that they have been persecuted by us ever since we arrived, and that they are fighting for their survival and freedom.

There are themes made clear even in the intro that have parallels with a certain foreign policy/world view.

I cant sum it up more clearly as i the last time i watched my copy was about 3am in the morning 8yrs ago, having just learned that my fathers life support machine would need to be turned off when my brother and i arrived back home, and i dont feel inclined to re watch it.

ON a lighter note, I was made to think of it by this:

LOLcats are propaganda set up by covert members of a secret society bent on world domination Deep in the jungles on Cobra island a new era of terrorism is being headed by a sinister revolutionary know only to us as Cobra Commander. From with in the circular fortress they create LOLcats and spread them over the internet. And silently the entire human race is subjugated by a kitten proclaiming "I'm hungry". Ughhhh, makes me shudder.

I don't know about Cobra being the real good guys, but the GI Joe response was pretty worrying. Instead of diffusing the bomb he attached it to the flying aircraft carrier ... which was floating over the city.

Counter-terrorist isn't supposed to mean you're a terrorist for the other side.

I liked it though
