This caused me to realize that I LOVE cows in an intimate, precious manner. I don't know why, perhaps it's because of simply being awakened to reality by Cabernet Sauvignon. Perhaps it's because they (the cows) provided my nursing needs when I was small, and also now, when I am an adult, by providing earth mothers milk to soften my cereal and provide cream for my coffee in the morning.

A sweet old cow used to live in the field behind my house. The first time I met her, she scared the crap out of me. I was walking through the field to get to the gas station across the way. She came up to me out of the dark and butted her forehead gently against my shoulder. I screamed, then realized it was a gentle cow who just wanted some pats. After that, I went out there just to sit in the grass with her. I was sad when she wasn't there one day.. If I had known those neighbors at all, I would have asked. I only went out there at night because that guy would shoot dogs and deer or anything that got into his yard.

He shot my dog, Stanley, once, but just grazed him.
