Cenk Uygur (TYT) on Following the Bible

"no one really follows the bible"

Cenk discusses how no one truly follows the Bible.

This is not a talk about whether or not the stories written in the Bible are true. It's a talk about how no one truly follows the "lessons" these stories supposedly teach. I appreciate what he's saying, and that some may not agree.

*fear and *lies for those that use the Bible as a tool/weapon.

Mt 19:22.... Is brutal to the rich. Jesus says rich people won't be getting in heaven period.
Lu 14:34.... isn't nearly so brutal. Jesus makes analogy with salt. Jesus basically says if your tithing is weaksauce, you aren't of any use and you'll be cast away.

Two different answers.

If you read Matthew, Cenk is correct. If you read Luke, there's no problem. The gospels were written by different people, with different agendas. If you want it in black and white, you go to luke.

So fuck you Cenk. You pick the one gospel that serves your agenda. Well so do I, but I didn't bash your religion with it.

Wow, did you miss the point or what!

First, he isn't "bashing your religion", but those who say one should follow the Bible (something you obviously do not adhere to). Note how "the Bible" is mentioned as a unit, the same way it is in the mouths of those he is criticising.

Second, the gospels of Matthew and Luke are believed to be rewritings of Mark, which just so happens to contain the same invocations as Matthew (e.g. Mark 10:21). What makes Luke "black and white", other than your opinion thereof? The fact that it sticks closer to your own principles/ideals? If so, you are simply illustrating Cenk's point.
