Single payer is the only way to really save money. Corporate america now runs the government and all the major news media outlets. Even PBS avoids certain questions and comments when talking about the healthcare debate. As soon as the electorate stops paying attention to TV ads we will have a more democratic pool of elected officials again. I know no-one under 35 who even watches TV news anymore since they see no value in it outside of getting a glimpse of this weeks talking points that every news outlet propagandize (it is good for getting riled up).
