I grew up in upstate NY downwind from the town of Woodstock. The first rock band i was in, we played this song, along with "Cowgirl in the sand" and "Down by the River", those are the only songs we knew. Must have been around 1972.

Anyone know why there is a different version of this song on the Woodstock album? It's much faster and tighter than this version.

oh yeah and they didn't close the New York State Thruway, they closed the nearest exit to the festival, I think it was Newburgh.
