excellent use/timing of anthropic principle

I love (hate) how he skips over the whole "abiogenesis" thing, then explains about some lightning but doesn't say where the lightning comes from, etc. etc...
Do you want some more abiogenesis talk? One point that I would have brought up is how unlikely it seems that the first self-replicating life would just fall into place one day. If you get a bunch of chemicals together, it probably won't create life. But if you get an entire planet with chemical oceans for over a billion years, then it starts to get more likely that life would happen.
But then you have to remember the anthropic principle! We're going to find ourselves on whatever planet that life happens to occur on. We guess that there are about 10^20 planets in our universe, and the universe is about 13.7 billion years old. So even if life falling into place at any time on a whole planet has a probability of 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000,000, we can expect it to happen at least once. And here we are.
When I take that into account, life seems pretty probable to me. You could make up a god to explain it, but I don't see the need.

Not a fan of that death, he wasn't talking in all caps. I also can't see Discworld's Death saying "bugger off" or "I could murder a good curry." He'd be too dispassionate and refined.
Go and read the death trilogy, he says almost exactly those things.

Because one's a video of someone doing their job, and the other is a video of someone breaking the law they're supposed to keep, assaulting someone, using their unique position to their advantage (which is perhaps the most heinous crime possible.. it adequately describes government genocide policies)..
You're right, i know what you're saying, but on the other hand - you don't get commended for doing your job.. you get commended for doing extremely well (and there are videos of that around), or you get slaughtered for doing extremely bad (and there are lots of those).. one outweighs the other and perhaps there's a reason for it.
I get your point though. Hope you get mine.

Yes, it is infuriating.
1) How could that moron cop not realize SOMEONE would get him on tape?
2) The entire internets always assumes that because they see a video of a bad cop, the rest of them are just as bad and corrupt.
That's not the case. You only see bad cop videos because Mr. Polite officer doing his job properly just isn't interesting.
3) This asshole just makes it harder for everyone else to do their job.

Nope, no evidence. At least nothing that doesn't require a hefty helping of "belief". Still interesting even if it isn't true. Sometimes I think even more so. *scifi? maybe, maybe not.

I'm googling those terms as we speak...actually another version of me is googling those terms in another universe as this copy of me is too lazy with my rotating spaghetti fork.

What what? I was just saying that I love the look of Tv screens being taped, Y'know, video of video, film of a CRT? Did you watch the Prince of Darkness clip? If you haven't seen the movie, it's a really good scary 80's horror flick. All the characters have the same dream, and that's what's shown as the dream, in the YT clip below.
