well i guess the most important thing is how it is "to you"

for me, it's nonsense not to put the numbers in either ascending or descending order according to the size of the unit.

but hey.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Well, to me, it's all about the way that's it's written.

129908 is 12 September, 2008. The same goes for 12.9.08

But when using a slash, like 9/12/08, it's September 9, 2008.

nice one for giving me the opportunity to rant about the retarded way americans insist on writing the date

you didn't "correct" the date format, you americanised it. I like the symbolism, american marine tells the world how to write dates, and thinks he's doing an educational favour.

just kidding around, it's obviously not earth shatteringly important. but seriously, month, THEN day, THEN year?

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Wait - what's your pet hate? People correcting the way dates are written or people that write dates like that?

because you say "Nice one" with a smile, and at the same time, downvote my comment.... I'm lost...

In reply to this comment by MINK:
heads up! i replied...

you just made my day! hit one of my pedantic pet hates right on the button!
nice one

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
4/9/2008 = April 9, 2008
9/4/2008= September 2, 2008

hence "9/11"

americans don't need government run healthcare, energy, education assistance, or job training--we need freedom. with freedom, we will have all this and more.

The mortgage crisis is a direct result of deregulation of that industry; it has crippled our economy. And because the government now won't let these businesses fail we're now bailing out companies that had all the freedom they asked for.

The reality is that businesses are successful when they make money for their shareholders. There is no incentive for private health companies to provide preventative medicine, or provide healthcare to poor people or people who are already sick or injured; its much more lucrative to outwit a person who is hospitalized by not paying everything in the agreement unless called-out on it. There is no incentive for energy companies to do anything more than what is legally required in order to provide power for those who can pay, and no sane reason for them to discourage excess use of power. ...

I was about to continue, but you get where I'm going with this. Money allows choices, like where and how well you live, eat, shop, ... Right now money also impacts how well your kids can be educated (and how much they can then earn) and how good your healthcare can be (and how healthy you are again impacts your financial status). I fail to see the increase in freedom to be had by letting the market leave good people uneducated and sick, unless 'freedom' to you is anarchy.

the advantage of being expat is i can choose the bits i am proud of and claim them as my own (cricket, politeness, an ability to turn up to meetings on time, the steam engine, the beatles)

but i can totally disown the other shit because i don't live in that stinking country with all those crazy assholes

and i don't really watch many movies so i guess it will be a while before i get round to one called "eurotrip" ! i kinda been there, done that.

What's EuroTrip? struggling for context here

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
That gets even funnier when you compare it to the hooligans from EuroTrip.

In reply to this comment by MINK:
that is the kind of thing that makes me proud to be british.

in that group of spectators there's probably some dude with a broken leg, lying on the floor in a pool of blood, saying "oh dear, did i scratch your paintwork? how embarassing! i really am most awfully sorry! would you mind terribly if i asked you to call an ambulance for me when you get to the finish line? Do make sure you send my secretary the invoice for the paintwork, and add a little extra for your trouble, alright old boy? i bid you good day, sir!"

i was more referring to the bit where he rotates right, the tracks go in opposite directions, carve up the road, and leave 2 dark splodges which will be potholes in 2 days. No?

In reply to this comment by gorgonheap:
Actually vehicles that run on tracks do not cause that much damage to a road as you might think. The weight of the vehicle is spread out fairly well along the treads and as long as it's not going too fast wouldn't do much more then a snowmobile.

Not to say there isn't any damage, I'm sure it's worse then a car with rubber tires but I've seen the national guard run tracks over pavement without hardly any evidence that one has been there.

In reply to this comment by MINK:
do they repair the road after fucking it up with tank tracks? (serious question)

hmmm. well the idea of teaching children is essential, i just don't think we do it in a very efficient or memorable or enjoyable or useful way. There are some innovative schools of course, but generally our concept of "School" is fubar imo u c?

school is quite obviously bullshit. i just can't begin to "back that up" because... it's so obvious. you think the current way we teach children is the best way to get the maximum potential out of the human race?

nahh mate, it's just babysitting and brainwashing. and a few good bits if you're lucky.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
School is bullshit? Care to back that one up?

I see what you're saying. The idea of school isn't bullshit, but the way we go about it is.
