Thunderf00t is probably the least level-headed response you will find. His video is terrible for a lot of reasons, mostly because he does all the same things Anita Sarkessian is accused of doing (for example, cherry-picking) to an exponential degree, but I recommend you watch it anyway and draw your own conclusions.

As much as some Gamergate supporters would like the movement to be about ethics in gaming journalism, it has its roots in a witch-hunt started by claims from a jilted ex-boyfriend that his girlfriend (Zoe Quinn) slept with reporters to get good reviews--claims that were later shown to be completely untrue but not before the Gamergate movement had found a cause to rally around. From the very start, the movement had trouble separating actual journalistic ethical problems (i.e. gifts from game publishers to game reviewers... see pretty much any tweet or video by TotalBiscuit about Gamergate for a reasoned overview of the problems) from anti-feminist screeds against Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkeesian, and later Brianna Wu. And it only got worse over time.

To understand why people might be opposed to Sarkeesian's critiques, you should probably read: this article. Just to summarize the article's main thesis: there is a group of gamers out there who refuse to see a problem with the status quo and make the claim that anyone trying to point out a problem is demanding special privileges. This is not to say that Sarkeesian's critiques aren't without flaws. It is rather to explain how so many people got enraged by her analysis that they felt the need to personally attack her.

So, to put it in a nutshell, there ARE some problems with gaming journalism but they are akin to the same kinds of problems entertainment journalism has in general (Colbert's point). But there are also some serious problems with gaming culture that were brought under the magnifying glass by the whole Gamergate phenomenon.

Frankly, as a "hardcore gamer" (30+ years of gaming experience including games across dozens of consoles and the PC), watching the "debate" on the topic has been embarrassing to say the least. Gaming was finally overcoming the stigma and stereotypes that it had been shackled with before this thing blew up and made us look like the bunch of socially inept man-babies the rest of society assumed we were.

I think not only is it going to take years for our social image to recover, it is going to take years to overcome the toxicity that has pervaded the debate. People on both sides are seriously butt-hurt about how everything went down and the back and forth has been more on the emotional side than the intellectual, leading to lots of flame wars and very little critical reflection.

There is no way whatsoever they can know what everyone dresses up as. Sure they can gauge sales of store bought costumes. But they have no way of knowing how many people make up their own costumes or re-use old costumes.

Yes. The animation on Yennifer casting that kickass churning earth spell thing was super wonky. Its almost like they didn't mocap the whole thing! At least get some video or something from real sorceresses casting real spells from the real world for comparison.

But srsly. I've no idea where you are seeing all this animation fail. It looks fine to me. I've also got no idea how you can criticise the plot of a game from its trailer.

Disclaimer: I am a human with 26 years of experience being around other, animated humans. Although, in fairness I have never witnessed either a horse being beheaded on the charge with a single swipe of a zweihander (I should also mention I have never witnesses a horse at any velocity being beheaded with anything), or any witches, mounted or otherwise (at least to my knowledge), but at neither of those points in the trailer did I think, "Wow, that's so unrealistic". I suppose the reason is that when I clicked on a video which was quite apparent as a trailer for a videogame, I may have prepared myself by suspending some of my disbelief.

ps. I am hyped for this game. The first 2/3 of the Witcher 2 were great.

Actually, you might not understand what the "Uncanny Valley" hypothesis is. It's not simply CG/Humanoid Traits that are not quite realistic. What you're possibly interpreting as "Uncanny Valley" is that the visuals are attempting to appear realistic, but not fooling anyone. There are some elements of the Uncanny Valley here, but possibly not what you were thinking of or what the original poster meant by how it "looks".
The difference between what the Uncanny Valley and this video is that the characters are not meant to be mimicking realism. There are many, many traits here that are cues to an intentionally stylized art direction. The anatomy of the characters is exaggerated, both in the facial forms and body structure. The lighting and materials are certainly drawing from real-world principles, but is far off the mark if you're attempting to portray photo-realistic CG. These are intentional choices by the artists and art directors. It would be a mistake to look at this for how it "fails" to convince you it's real, because it's not meant to.
Where it does enter the Uncanny Valley is in the animation. The immediate loss of inertia displayed by the beheaded horse at the beginning. The animation after the witch jumps onto the horse (is that supposed to be Merigold? They give her less character every time), are physically inaccurate. The best way to describe the Uncanny Valley is to look at things from 20 years hence. In that time, people who may play this game would look at the lighting and rendering as simply early CG, whereas anyone paying attention to the animation, particularly the layman, would see it as "just wrong" because it violates what we subconsciously understand about how the universe works.

Seriously! I mean we got Hulkbuster armor! The way everyone is in the room with Banner but looking away and he looks like he just did something bad... more and more hints of a possible Planet Hulk movie! Andy Serkis, in an unknown roll... (I've heard guesses as to him being Ulysses Klaw, but I don't know who that is at all but based on the pics from the comics and his back story it sounds likely). Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch... Thor grabbing Tony Stark, and Tony's statements about the path he himself started (creating Ultron rather than Hany Pym) which might hint at Civil War... so much geek going on in this trailer.

Also, Jame's Spader's voice acting was perfect.... The use of "I Got No Strings"... I'm pumped for a midnight showing myself.
