Obama Death Threat at Townhall

Boring comments?
I don't have a team of writers like Cole-bare and Jom Ste-wart. I cheerfully accept the criticism but c'mon, I'm doing this for FREE!
Kudos to you, messenger, for seeing the other side's POV.

QM's comments mostly bore me too, but here he's just turning the tables, and IMO, makes a fair point:
You don't have a response for the request of Proof? Because I think that would strengthen your argument a whole bunch.

Quantum, can you restrict your quotes to the video you're watching, or at least provide a source to your quotes? Or maybe quit being a part of the propaganda machine you try so hard to pretend you're not a part of...
Mine was merely a fine summary of this nudnik's "powerful" speech. Or did he not start with Godwin?
Glenn Beck is a businessman who has to sell advertising to stay on the air? Amazing. Unlike Leg-thrill Matthews or Oldberminn or Ste-wart or Colbare?
You "freethinkers" really want to argue about who is drowning in propaganda? The Right has Fox (which I don't watch anyway) but here's a partial list of YOUR left-wing propaganda machine, which did the world a favor by 'coming out' in 2008 and openly joining Obama's election campaign. They were/are free to do so as I am free to call them on it.
THE (partial) LIST
* Media Matters (feeds most of these "credible" media their talking points)
* The old Big 3 networks: ABC, MS-DNC, CBS
* CNN
* Comedy central (talk about nightly propaganda!)
* Air America radio (bankrupt)
* NPR - (MY tax dollars spread YOUR lies! Beck does his thing on his OWN dime)
* Most newspapers besides the WSJ
* Magazine fluff like TIME and Newsweak
* HuffPo
* Hollywood's "product"
* Most of the crap on tv
* Most "rebellious" musical acts
And remember, unionized government school teachers are biased in favor of (drumroll) MOAR BIGGER GUVMINT!
Of course, I could be imagining things. It's not like a singer slipped in a message to OBAMA during the Superbowl half-time show.
Now even with all that relentless liberal brainwashing, slightly over half of Americans still identify themselves as conservative. Wow! It's almost like the one-third of peeps working and supporting the other two-thirds don't want to work for Uncle S(c)am from January to August!
So what are these 'radical' Tea Party ideas that keep the left up at night?
Obeying the Constitution's limits on government power
Stopping confiscatory taxation
Stopping runaway spending
Government Accountability
Controlling the borders
For all I know, I'm the only "resistance" you meet all day to liberal brainwashing. How 'bout a hug?

Reading the Bible Will Make You an Atheist
r10k, I studied the Bible with a respected religious man; one of the few Americans allowed to view and help decipher the Dead Sea Scrolls. We used an annotated version of the Bible that explained the puns, double meanings and other linguistic aspects that would be lost on someone who just picked up a King James at Barnes & Noble. My Prof. provided context, historical and cultural. He showed us more ancient Mesopotamian mythology that contained stories remarkably similar to those in the Bible. He, a religious man (Jewish), presented the book for what it was, with no apologies or attempts to shield us from the books' many contradictions and logical inconsistencies. Warts and all.
I seem to meet all your criteria for being able to have an opinion on the Bible. I've got context, depth and the instruction of a very wise religious scholar. No offense, but I probably understand this book better than you ever will, and yet....
My critical mind tells me this is mythology, like Zeus, or Beowulf, or Gilgamesh, or Frodo, Bilbo and Dumbledore. These are campfire stories from pre-scientific times that attempt to explain the -then many- mysteries of existence. Those days are gone, and we now know that we are not at the center of the universe, that space isn't made of water, that stars are not lights, that the world is not flat, that humans are part of an evolutionary chain and that the earth is billions of years old. Perhaps it's time to embrace the future, r10k, and leave the cave drawings behind you.
Just one person's opinion.... I could be wrong.
College Girl's 'Fuck List'
This just in: the entire lacross team has discovered they've been gifted with genital herpes and multiple strains of HPV, including genital warts and a greater risk of penile and head & neck cancer.
It was worth it, though!

Your argument is fallacious. You are begging the question: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/begging-the-question.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Begging the Question is a fallacy in which the premises include the claim that the conclusion is true or (directly or indirectly) assume that the conclusion is true. This sort of "reasoning" typically has the following form.
1. Premises in which the truth of the conclusion is claimed or the truth of the conclusion is assumed (either directly or indirectly).
2. Claim C (the conclusion) is true.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because simply assuming that the conclusion is true (directly or indirectly) in the premises does not constitute evidence for that conclusion. Obviously, simply assuming a claim is true does not serve as evidence for that claim. This is especially clear in particularly blatant cases: "X is true. The evidence for this claim is that X is true."
Some cases of question begging are fairly blatant, while others can be extremely subtle.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reality contradicts your assumptions. Foxconn, a business with no government constraint, is far worse than Wal*Wart in every category I concerned my argument with. This is an excellent illustration of the disconnect I see between free market theory and free market reality.
Budd Dwyer Suicide Video
"On January 22, 1987, the day before his sentencing, Dwyer called a press conference to “provide an update on the situation.” Many expected Dwyer to announce his resignation from office. At the conference, an agitated and nervous Dwyer once again professed his innocence, and declared that he would not resign as state treasurer. Those attending would hear his final words:
“I face a maximum sentence of 55 years in prison and a $300,000 fine for being innocent. Judge Muir has already told the press that he, “felt invigorated” when we were found guilty, and that he plans to imprison me as a deterrent to other public officials. But it wouldn’t be a deterrent because every public official who knows me knows that I am innocent; it wouldn’t be a legitimate punishment because I’ve done nothing wrong.” Then he proceeded “The guilty verdict has strengthened that resolve. But as we’ve discussed our plans to expose the warts of our legal system, people have said: “Why bother?” “No one cares.” “You’ll look foolish.” “60 Minutes, 20/20, the American Civil Liberties Union, Jack Anderson and others have been publicizing cases like yours for years, and it doesn’t bother anyone.”
At this point, Dwyer stopped with his prepared text and called to three of his staffers, giving each an envelope. It was later discovered that one contained a suicide note to his wife. The second was an organ donor card and other related materials. The third was a letter to the newly-inaugurated governor Robert P. Casey.
After handing out the envelopes, Dwyer opened a manila envelope and withdrew a .357 Magnum revolver, advising those in the crowd, “Please leave the room if this will offend you.” Those in attendance cried out to Dwyer, pleading with him to put the gun down (“Budd, don’t!” was heard on television.) Some tried to approach him. “Stay away, this thing will hurt someone,” he warned. Amid the cry of “Budd, Budd, Budd!” Dwyer put the gun barrel into his mouth and pulled the trigger. He collapsed against a wall in a sitting position, blood pouring from his nose, all in front of five television news cameras. Dwyer was declared dead at the scene at 11:31 a.m. CDT."

^"Some people may need a religious or religious-like structure to be good, but most don't."
I don't think that is why people are drawn to religion at all. All the religious people I know -- whatever the faith, including New Age woo woo stuff -- seem to be searching for a framework to view life and to give them comfort and support.
For some, that becomes extremely rigid and fundamentalist and is the source of most of the bad stuff from religion. It comforts some people to think that they have the answer and others don't.
Just as it comforts some to bash religion so hard. You know, that is just the flip side of religion -- just as rigid and fundamentalist in their belief that THEY are right.
My brother became a Mormon after going, as a tourist, to the Temple in Salt Lake City. He told me of the huge, beautiful murals in the Temple, all with happy families. Our own family was typically dysfunctional, and my brother was drawn to those images. They were important to him. So he became a Mormon.
Later, in one of the few times he tried to prosyletize me, he said -- they tell me things I have trouble believing. But I choose to have faith.
My brother needed religion to get through this life. It worked for him, he was willing to make the trade-offs between logic and faith, because he needed faith to survive. He has been married almost forty years and he has four grown children who seem to be functioning well, when other kids in the neighborhood weren't so successful.
Just because you don't need that structure and comfort, I don't see why you want to denigrate those who choose it.
And yes, yes, for pity's sake, yes, I know bad things are done in the name of religion. What I am trying to get across is that good things are also done. And I think it is pretty dang weird that ya'll don't just say "yes, some good things are done, isn't that great" and let it lie.
You realize that you sound just as whacko as any True Believer who insists you are wrong for not believing the way they do, don't you? I mean honestly. Look in the mirror and see the shared humanity. How are you different?
This is my crusade, by the way. No different than your crusade. Somehow, we have got to find some way to let others be different than us without it being some sort of sin. Sin against God or sin against logic.
I don't believe in evil or sin. I believe in humanity, with all its warts and all its glories.

Visualizing Empires Decline
I'm not an expert or anything, but wouldn't the american empire be a series of warts growing off all the other empires - representing land in the americas owned by the various empires displayed here, and eventually splitting off and combining into one, diminishing the other empire's size and creating a new one? And then remaining the same size to our present time?
Or what land masses have america invaded and held onto since formation? I didn't even see some nature of american bubble appear at all, as i was totally expecting. Or was that 'empire' formed before this timeline?
Better yet, let's have an australian aborigine bubble and show a british wart leaving the larger british bubble (via a kick from a warty leg), marching in shackles up to the aborigine one and swallowing it whole. Then the warts that would eventually form america can form, split, attach themselves to the native american bubble and eat it like a plague, slowly taking more and more of the bubble's surface area until, victorious, the last of the native american bubble is devoured, and all the colours mix together to form a new colour which calls itself america.
Rachel Maddow: Health Reform Bill Restricts Abortion Cover
Next up, should overweight people have to pay more tax into the health system than skinny people?
It is fascinating how liberals quickly apply the 'slippery slope' to abortion but refuse to acknowledge the slipperly slope of how government will regulate human life far beyond abortions. Rage over privacy issues with the Patriot Act, and mewling subservience to open books for government to 'more efficiently' run your health care. Whine like mules that private corporations are 'too big, rich, and powerful' but a total blind spot with government being bigger and having more power/money than any entity on earth.
The small percentage of 'poor uninsured' can be helped with state programs, municipal level clinics, and voluntary charitable donations. 1.3 trillion to a government agency is absolutely unecessary, wasteful, and philosophically dangerous. We're all better off with a private system, warts and all. Give government this kind of power and you'll regret it. Government cannot be trusted. It will inevitably abuse the power. It is better to never let them have it. Got a beef with a private company? Government is a great place to list your grievences. Government as a supervisory and regulatory entity is fine. Government PARTICIPATING in the process is a horrible mistake. It always has been, and always will be.
