Still President Bush - His Not Yet Legacy: Language

rougy says...

Yeah - the usual suspects claim that it would be 'unacceptable' to leave Iraq because there would be a genocide.

These are the same people who said America would be welcomed as liberators.

They say that we can't leave for the benefit of the Iraqi people.

These are the same people who said America should never fight a war unless it is in America's best interest.

They say that the Iraqi's are better off without Saddam as their dictator.

These are the same people who ignore the 1,000,000 civilians who died and the 3,000,000 refugees forced from their home and their country as a result of a threadbare US occupation force that is either unable or unwilling to maintain peace and stability.

With friends like that looking out for Iraq, who needs enemies?

You're both wrong. The problem with the public education system in the U.S. is not monetary. It's jurisdictional.

Interesting idea. I agree with it in principle, but it'd be a political nightmare to get people to agree on it. Conservatives and creationists would fight a national curriculum tooth and nail.

I'm not sure it's the only thing wrong. There's a shortage of good teachers out there, and I've read a few stories about schools that are canceling music & art programs due to lack of funding.

@blankfist:
Here's a study. It's partisan though, because school teachers wrote it, and you know you can't trust the Big School Lobby.

It also mentions the countries with better funded national education programs, and the better results they're getting from it. It's the usual suspects, essentially all of Europe, the wealthier portions of Asia, oh, and Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

I'm more interested in the comment about the military-industrial complex though. If we entirely eliminate national defense spending, don't we lose our standing army?

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

'Ello all

I hate blogs, I just do. Nothing I can do about that and in this day and age where the world and his wife wants you to know their innermost thoughts, I better just get the fuck over it and be tolerant.
I honestly never thought i'd end up doing anything like sharing my stuff in the middle of a forum, but here I am. I have come to realise that not everyone on the net is a try-hard moron and it seems to me after nearly four months of being here, that the ratio of intelligent, insightful, well-balanced people to banal, attention seeking, usual suspects swings in favour. I realised I actually wanted to know a little bit more about the people behind all these random vids and comments, sucked in I guess. Go me!

My name is Rae, i'm 27 and I live on the south coast, in England. I work with teenagers, project work and centre based and I kick arse at my job, I love it. I have two children, a girl 9, and boy 5 and i'm a single mum. They're brilliant, hilarious, precocious little shits and they drive me insane.

I was born up North but moved around a lot as a kid. Never really settled down until we got to where I am now, but by that point I had nearly lost my mind for one reason and another. At the age of 13 I finally became too much for my parents to handle and went into care, living in a home with 8 other kids all older than me. I thought I had it bad, I thought my life was shit, I was the biggest twat of a teenager and I most definitely knew better than anyone else. Then came the wake up call. I knew nothing of suffering in comparison to what I saw and in the three years I was there, I saw a lot. It changed me for the better and i've never lost what I learnt in that time.

I got into the sift, because I kept geting vids sent through to me by another person here evil_disco_man. Just on another note, he is my muse, one of the greatest guys I have ever known and I platonically love him to death. Anyhow, one day I got bored, so decided to have a look around. I liked what I saw and decided to jump on board and have a bash myself. One of the things I really like about this place is that you can really get a decent view of personalities, just by looking through peoples sifts and comments. It fascinates me immensley. I always take the time to look at the queues of people who upvote my stuff and have found some real gems and very like-minded ladies and gents. This makes me happy.
MarineGunrock gave me my first promote and this got me my first sift and from thereon in I caught the bug. Cheers mate

Anyway, considering I hate blogs i've done a damn good job of contradicting myself, so i'll stop right there. Thanks for all your votes people, long may it last!

MS Paint Car - Pixelgod II

RadHazG says...

ive heard much worse music but its all a matter of opinion.

and the difficulty here is that this is MS Paint of all things. painting on a real canvas would be 3x easier than using this program to do something so detailed. whether he's "painting" from a photo or from life the program itself is miles behind the usual suspects like photoshop, the fact he can pull somethin like this out of that piece of crap program is pretty impressive.

Sift Money (Sift Talk Post)

Goofball_Jones says...

Don't know, I was going to sit down and start fixing some dead videos as since I'm not part of the top 6 or 7 people that get their videos voted for (I'll put something in, doesn't get any votes...then one of the elite put the same video in and it makes it out of the que...so go figure).

SO, since I can't really contribute here, I thought I'd do something constructive like fix a few broken links. I fixed one and got a point and it was nice and everything...then I went looking for the second one, didn't quite find it right away and had to do some pretty involved searching before I found the exact video that was broken...and it told me that I had been awarded a point to soon. Ok, that's fine I guess. I suppose my only insentive should be to just fix the broken links and contribute my time...with only a "job well done and thanks" as a reward.

Or how about this...do away with star-points altogether. Who cares that Ant has over 250 stars or so-and-so only has 2? Should be open for someone to register here and then vote. If your video makes it out of the que, pat yourself on the back and get nothing more. Make this a real Web 2.0 site and not be reserved to the top 15 or 20 people that seem to be the only ones who get a video out of que. You get a core group of people that all know each other, NATURALLY they're going to vote for their friends videos...so their friends get more stars and they in turn get more stars when their videos are voted on by the same people.

It's all the usual suspects...look for yourselves, don't take my word for it. Either that, or when a link goes dead and THEY don't maintain it, they lose that star. They post here to get a star, why shouldn't someone coming up behind them fixing their dead links get one also?

The truth about Barack Obama - FoxNews too dumb to research

choggie says...

Finally, the voice of reason, on a threaded circle-jerk.....yes Johndoe.....yes we are!

How a bout a simple deconstruction:

1. Vid is posted, like a hatchet thrown at a practice-stump well-worn, of some bullshit concerning some media outlet, and some candidate for some office.

2. Up pop, the usual suspects, the supporters of dead-horse kicking, the party-line, this-ism, VS. that-ism, as meaningless a regurgitent as a Mc. Donald's jingle is to a musk ox.

3.The respondent who can't help but wag his finger in insult, or shake his head in "faux" pity, at the contributors most-likely to resemble the schoolyard bully's flavor-of-the-weak. (For the sake of being accused of ad-hom, let's call him Smugly Putforth.)

4.and finally, as the votes come flying in, from an anonymous peanut gallery of teens, queens, and lurking dweebs, because, to shout foul to a brick-wall, is much more stylish an activity than producing any real meaning or solutions rather than to play this game they have created for the monkey house, a lone voice pops in to remind most of the contributors, how fucking sophomoric and ineffectual they all are, or are becoming.

and more run-on sentences.....

An Unfinished Story - Colony Collapse Disorder

farcrafter says...

I like the topic of CCD, but this seems to imply that pollution and bad advertising kill bees. I favor the disease theory, because the abandoned hives are not plundered by the usual suspects. I think there has been some other evidence found in support of the disease theory, like a specific virus isolated in several hives.

I think I remember Singer pointing out the engine one somewhere for the film Usual Suspects. It was a fairly low budget movie, and they left it. For us to talk about.
