Just for reference: the plain number of casualties at Omaha beach was comparatively small. Fighter-bombers caused higher numbers of casualties among motorised columns of German divisions in Normandy in a single day than the initial invasion or even the encirclement at Falaise.

If I remember correctly, the approach to the bridge of Oissel alone -- one of two bridges across the Seine in that area -- saw more deaths within a few hours at the end of August than Omaha Beach. All without any Allied ground forces present, just P47s, Typhoons and bombers. Same for the roads leading to Rouen and Elbeuf.

Gotta admit, the typhoon was pretty neat.

I like how it fits into a pouch half its size, that's what you get when you incorporate the power of typhoons in a pistol, bravo.

Uh, I think you already hit the point.

My question is.. will we ever actually use it? The F22 was damn impressive but because we no longer have any enemies with any real air force capability it was simply never used. I can see the whole 'but someday we might' attitude but to me that's bunk. I mean even if we invaded Iran, their airforce consists largely of 80's aircraft that we gave them, F4 Phantoms, F86 Sabers. Their most up to date aircraft are defunct F14's we purposefully sold them without given them any repair manuals and defective parts and some MiG-29's that the Russians gave them that are likewise as defunct. Sure they have a lot of these but against US or European aircraft such as the F-35 or Europe's modern Typhoon or Sukhoi SU-47, a country like Iran would be outmatched dramatically and a confrontation for air space would likely be over in weeks and we'd likely barely loose a single fighter thanks to modern fly-by-wire and 'fire and forget' weapons.

So in the end I just don't see the point. This is corporate welfare at it's finest.

we've had more twisters this summer than I can ever recall.... that thunderstorm last night, and the one last weekend, were by far the craziest I've seen in Canada.

Rain coming down like it has reminds me of typhoon season in SE Asia...

Oh sorry, I copied that whole discription from YouTube - Now that I look into it, it probably wasn't too clear to see that it was somebody else's description. I, thank God, do not live anywhere near hurricane/typhoon/ areas. The closest I have gotten was one vacation in North Carolina when a hurricane hit less than a week after me and hubby finished a vacation there. But even tornadoes here in Ohio scare the crap out of me.. Comiung from Finland where the biggest storm might blow down a few trees.

I can't imagine how it would be to actually experience a storm like that! And I so envy you for having a chance to live there, typhoon or not! The whole culture must be so fascinating, the nature.. Asia just seems to magical to me!

Hey, Mint! I just posted a vid about yet another disastrous typhoon in Taiwan, and I noticed your vid from last year about Jangmi. I had no idea you were there for that storm. I was living in Taipei at the time (I even landed into Jangmi on a flight back from Okinawa). Do you live in the area? Did you get to check out Taroko after the winds calmed? In what capacity were you covering the storm? I just came back to the US after a year in Taipei, and this connection to my "old" life is tickling me.
