7 biggest lies about the economy - Robert Reich

GenjiKilpatrick says...

@Spacedog79

Money is debt. Which means More debt = More money.

I know, it's fucked up right? Just one big game of Monopoly, worthless paper currency and all.

To answer that borrowing question tho..
If any government had any real brass, they would just:
1. contract the money supply
2. reset prices
3. make money creation the sole responsibility of town meetings and congress and such

"Shit, that food was really expensive before they reset the price and increased the purchasing power of my income."

That way, we can bring back my dreams of 5 cent candy bars. Mmmmm, chocolate.

How Corporations Manufacture Consent: Teabagger Edition

Nithern says...

Yes, NOW, these idiots want to debate and have dialogue regarding Health Care Reform. They want it, because, the HCR is almost ready to be rolled out and shown to the country. They want/need their piece of the pie. Because if they dont, democrats can challenge them in their district: "This person didn't want you to be healthy, nor, an educated consumer, vote for Mr. Democrat instead and be on the winning team!"

Then...

Over the summer, as we all know, republicans, conservatives, and everyone's 'honest' and most 'trustworthy' news organization, Fox News, tried to kill HCR. They tried at rallies, at town meetings, and even on the airwaves/internet. It came across to most moderates (the ones I've talked to at least), as be immature, uneducated, unintelligence, and un-American. And after all that crap, these people pulled, their efforts, F-A-I-L-E-D.

Now...

Some of them want to vote 'yes', but only if they can score some pork for their disctrict. That's right conservatives, its going on right now. The very people that said, they are opposed to pork spending of ANY kind, are taking bribes to get money for their district. No, it wont be in the actual act of the HCR, but in a month or a few. When none of you are looking or paying attention. They know, you conservatives are not a very educated or wise bunch to begin with.

Alan Grayson: Fox and Republicans "The Enemies Of America"

Nithern says...

So, the Republicans, Fox News, and conservatives, are allowed to act mean, and draconian, without an ounce of responisbility for their actions. Well saw just over the summer, how responsible they are with power, with all the town meeting 'shocking matchs'. In addition, the small buzz words like 'Death Panel' and 'Socialized Heathcare'. Mr. Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, Miss Coulter, ARE, the representatives of the Republican party. While Mr. Obama, Reid, Madam Pelosi, and Ted Kennedy (May he rest in peace!), are (or were) representatives of the Democratic party.

Which of those two groups, can be held FULLY accountable for what they say and do in our country?

I dont think the word 'Bully', correctly the actions and words of the representatives of the Republicans are doing (and there mini---er---coworkers). Being an Oppressor? Tormentor? Intimidator? They are NOT, the sort of words you want your philosophy or concept of goverment to be thought of as. Heck, when looking up the other synonym's of the word 'Bully', is 'Terrorist', 'tyrant', 'ruffian', and 'buffalo'! (buffalo?)

As with Mr. Grayson, its custum to wear the tie, UNDER, the sweater, when a sweater is worn, with a jacket. Wearing without a tie, would have word just the same. Its a custom irregularity that we Americans might seem alittle strange.

If Westy Gets Hobbled for a however long for making a Joke (Terrible Talk Post)

quantumushroom says...

I heard "Fuck QM"... but it was me saying it.

Why do you hate the letter M so much! Fk you, M!"

I also heard that Budzos is worth 1000000000 QM's.

Is this more Ca$h for Clunker$ propaganda?

I also heard QM called someone a spook but managed to explain it away, yet Westy was hobbled for making a tongue in cheek comment.

QM cut-n-pasted a quote from a popular movie, in response to an individual who was going out of his way to act like a butthole. End of story.

I also heard that you'll find QM never makes a real suggestion as to a solution, but runs around downvoting things which aren't even anything but news reports, like Obama's public address statements.

Well, while we're all here, I'm curious as to why you have nothing better to do but downvote my comments, VL--not sifts, but comments--on my own little nook that I force no one to read. I'm just kidding, I know why. You're on a crusade.

I gots plenty of 'open-ended' solutions tailored for anyone, and no one to listen. I admit it gets rather tedious, even to type it: 99 out of 100 times, don't trust the government to solve your problems, take responsibility, read history, let the peeps who make the $$$ keep most of it, read, America First. But they'll be none of that, eh? Because the world is an UNJUST place and someone's gotta DO something! As the Africans say, 'A fool tests the water with both feet'. Maybe you shouldn't pour that gasoline on the fire, even though it qualifies as TAKING IMMEDIATE ACTION.

I also heard "Fuck QM" somewhere. Oh yea, earlier.

Take that, M! And no, I don't hate you, VL. Never have. You go on doing what you feel is right, even if it's left.

Don't know budzos. Had nothing to do with hobbling him. He got angry, which happens. Or he's one of these paid shills for the insurance companies, sent to disrupt VS town meetings.

Jigga J. is one of my most loyal...opponents. He doesn't like what I have to say, yet here he is. If you can't respect me or my foolishness, don't diss him for being tolerant. The only mistake he made in opening the door to this inquiry is now everyone has to suffer more blankfist comments.

McCain Supporters being Classy

Trancecoach says...

Make no mistake: The rhetoric coming from Palin and McCain, themselves, is fueling this type of ignorance and spurring the very kinds of divisiveness that this country was founded to eradicate. What stuns me the most about this is the candidates' repeated denial of their appeals to our "lesser nature" (in, for example, their repeated attacks on Obama, as opposed to their espousal of their own virtues), who instead claim that it's Obama's "fault" (for not attending McCain's "town meetings" or for allowing similar comments--which I've never heard--to arise at Obama's own rallies) that such things are emergent from the "fringe" element.

Someone needs to tell these politicians to grow the f*** up. The problems this country--and this world--is facing are far too dire, far too real, to continue to diminish ourselves to this low-level type of elementary school bickering.

It's crass and insulting and beneath the dignity of most Human affairs.

Ralph Nader: "Things Are a Lot Worse than We Thought!"

Fedquip says...

Nader.org - Dodging Impeachment
http://www.nader.org/template.php?/archives/1226-Dodging-Impeachment.html

The meeting at the Jones Library in Amherst, Massachusetts on July 5, 2007 was anything but routine. Seated before Cong. John Olver (D-MA) were twenty seasoned citizens from over a dozen municipalities in this First Congressional District which embraces the lovely Berkshire Hills.

The subject—impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney.

The request—that Cong. Olver join the impeachment drive in Congress.

More than just opinion was being conveyed to Cong. Olver, a then 70 year old Massachusetts liberal with a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These Americans voted overwhelmingly during formal annual town meetings in 14 towns and two cities in the First District endorsing resolutions to impeach the President and Vice President.

Presented in the form of petitions to be sent to the Congress, the approving citizenry cited at least four “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

They included the initiation of the Iraq war based on defrauding the public and intentionally misleading the Congress, spying on Americans without judicial authorization, committing the torture of prisoners in violation of both federal law and the U.N. Torture Convention and the Geneva Convention, and stripping American citizens of their Constitutional rights by jailing them indefinitely without charges and without access to legal counsel or even an opportunity to challenge their imprisonment in a court of law.

Forty towns in Vermont and the State Senate had already presented their Congressional delegation with similar petitions...Read More..

Barack Obama keynote at '04 DNC Convention (part 1)

rickegee says...

deathcow:

Bush's silly "town meeting" farces don't play back well on television in the same way that a pre-taped Broadway performance usually sucks. So many stage actors are amazing performers, but they just don't translate as well to film or television. Before seeing it, I wouldn't have believed that Bush fit in this category, but he is a very capable live performer.

James:

The interesting thing about Webb and Tester are that they were embraced by both the Kossacks and establishment bodies like Schumer and the DSCC. I don't really know if the chicken or the egg handpicked the candidates first. I know both are taking credit.

I do not for a moment question the power of the tubes as a communicative medium. In the end, though, the political utility of the net roots movement will be found in its ability to collect large $$$ contributions and to move the money quickly where it is needed.

theo:

The excerpts that I have read of the Obama book are really quite good. Let us know how it turns out.
