Empire Files: Abby Martin Exposes Steve Bannon
The tone you hear is total disgust at who this man is. It is wholly and totally founded in truth.
i can not handle her theatrical tone and heavy editorialization even when i agree with it.

Bill Maher - Milo Yiannopoulos Interview
In that video, Milo helpfully defines pedophilia, AND YOU STILL GOT IT WRONG. Stop lying, please.
Now to what he was actually talking about: criminal law has to have a stark, black and white line to define an age of consent. I don't see what's wrong with arguing that line is imperfect and some younger people are capable of giving it. I wouldn't go so far as saying that would justify breaking the law. But morally, there is no difference between screwing a minor a day before they turn 18 and the day after. In reality it might very well be completely legal in the next state over.
He is an idiot for even touching this third-rail topic and his jokes about the Father are tone-deaf but maybe that has to do with his British upbringing.
Oh hey, Milo defends pedophilia. Wonderful guy to have on your show. Worst bit starts at 2:30.
Ghost In The Shell - Trailer #2
Fortunately, a western adaptation will also tone down any kindergarten up-skirt tee hee, if present. Hard core Japanese anime isn't necessarily all good.
Honestly, it's an adaptation for Western audiences. Of course the lead is going to be white. I'm more concerned the subject material is inevitably going to be dumbed down.
Porn Police
Well, there's 2:35 I'll never get back.
What the he'll is wrong with people today that they think that it's funny to just be as loud, infantile, and dumb as humanly possible? The next presidential election isn't for almost 4 years, guys, tone it down for a while.
Did a 3D Laser Printer Kill A Bay Area Couple?
I don't, man - I don't hear what you're hearing haha - his tone sort of gives it away but, yes - he could have been more clear that what Glowforge calls a "3d Laser printer" is a mis-classification since it is a 3D printer. I didn't find that interesting, though. What I found interesting was that media groups have been scaring people on the topic of using 3D printers in their homes and in this case the pinter that killed these poor people was not a regular desktop 3d printer. Which are pretty damn safe if used close to an open window with a fan/ventilation.
Damn, saying the same shit over and over again - like talking about taxes all day lol
That's how I take him saying "a magical device that doesn't exist". If he means 'stop calling it something it isn't', he should say those words instead of what he said, no?
Edit: I don't disagree with his assertion that 3d printers don't make CO, or his frustration that cutters are being called printers, just his saying laser printers are non existent or magic.
jon ronson-hilarious and disturbing story on public shaming
I remember this story.
If your job is PUBLIC RELATIONS and you make a stupid post like that on a public forum... WTF did you think was going to happen?
Having read up on the follow up from this story, I don't think she's racist. I actually believe she her when she said she was having a go at white privilege, and to the few people that followed her on twitter, they probably knew her and understood her tone.
But like I said, twitter is a public platform, and devoid of context (one of the many reasons I don't use it), and again if your job is PR, surely you should understand this.
Basically, the takeaway from all this is that twitter is a fucking TERRIBLE platform for any kind of meaningful discourse, in fact, any kind of commentary beyond simple announcements and banal observations.
Sacco ended up meeting Biddle and in the unlikeliest of plot twists, they became friends.
Morgan Freeman being black and succeeding in life
And there are plenty of white people stuck in terrible situations who don't take the "bus."
There is a concept out there in pedagogy land about the importance of "grit." A teacher noticed who made it out -- those who had grit.
So there has been some movement to teach kids to have "grit."
Turns out it isn't that easy.
Full disclosure -- I do NOT have "grit." I get knocked down, I stay down. I am leveled by some of the smallest events.
I DO have tremendous luck. Born with good health, good brains, an addiction to food and not to something that wipes out my brain like some drugs, Depression-era parents who were frugal and determined that their children would not suffer what they suffered, easy access to college in the early 70s when tuition and rents weren't hugely expensive.
I wouldn't be sitting in relative ease right now if I hadn't had that string of luck. Because had I had to climb over serious obstacles, I am 99% sure I would not have done it. No grit, you see. Just luck.
Frosts my beehind that this racist tool who criticizes social justice advocates with that first clip of Freeman saying "stop talking about race" don't have the intellectual and emotional intelligence to understand what he is saying. It is clear as a bell -- but this tool is tone deaf. As is the sifter who posted this (I say that with clarity, based on years of reading his posts before I started ignoring him as a lost cause.)
The Trumpster Returns
That was exactly the tone I read his tweets in.

Ha!
I'm just going by my limited experience from the 80's when I spent 2 weeks there. At one point we went to a public hot spring that had cement pools that the water cascaded down, making what looked like a giant set of stairs going down a hillside. Some kids were there, playing in a few by throwing small rocks back and forth. At one point, a 14+- year old boy stood up, and in a calm measured tone said "Excuse me. I would appreciate it if you would stop throwing stones."...and they did. We fell over laughing, knowing that an American teen has never once in all recorded history been so polite and adult when dealing with other kids, nor would American kids respond by stopping.
We didn't meet a single rude kiwi.
You're kidding, right? Kiwis can swear with the best of them!
And yeah, I'm in chch, but I'm a frequent visitor to qtown, especially in winter.
And this looks like some *quality mayhem!
I'm nowhere near as fast as these guys, but that looks like some epic fun. Crazy downhill kids!

You did good on that joke and on its explanation. I got it just fine without the commentary though.
I left your whole commentary here, because I make it a practice to delete all comments from my wall. Your essay needs to be saved for posterity.
So here is a quirk of Videosift.
If you are ignoring someone, and they make a comment on one of your videos, you will never get another email saying that comments have been made.
I had no idea of the implosion on that comment stream. Dear god in heaven.
What is really sad is I only wanted a temp ban. I honestly didn't know of @gorillaman's propensities. I am all for second, third and fourth chances -- even though some people have left the Sift in the past because the worst abusers were allowed back. I understood their pain, but I'm still all for more chances. If you love something enough, maybe you will change your behavior. I certainly don't change immediately. I will accord others the opportunity to learn over time.
So no edit help, huh? I think I'll use this:
As "Homeland Security" says, if you see something, SAY something. (Because here is the truth: As Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel wrote, "Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.")
Much cleaner. Don't need the snark bit. Quote marks. Gotta love 'em. (Quote marks, not parentheses, to denote snark. I'm getting old.)
I didn't address your tendency to tread lightly with me in my first response. I figured it was made up of three things:
1. My early days on the Sift, I had really thin skin. I was easily hurt and upset. One of the biggest gifts to me in my life was learning on the Sift to be clearer and stronger in my communications. And to walk away from the abusers. And to use the ignore button. I figured that my early reactions were in your brain pan still.
2. That tone of voice thing. It is real. What is a simple, clear declarative sentence in my head can be read as a whine-fest by others.
3. I think it is great that you write carefully when you write to me. Keep it up! It's called caring about the person you are talking to. I have zero problem with that. In fact, I see it as a Great Good. (Because if you aren't, and I lay my own internal tone of voice onto your words in a way that doesn't match the words in your head, you will be hearing from me. And I am just as verbose as you, my friend! A punishment worse than death!)
And yes. We are people who hang in there. It is a blessing and a curse.
Well, only a curse to those who roll their eyes and snort "good grief, just shut up!" I'm cool with it.
Thanks for hanging in with me. And I am truly sorry about gorillaman. He did it to himself, though. He did have other choices.
In solidarity, I say to you -- Fuck Homeland Security and ginned up xenophobia and racism.
(A poet? Do you write epic odes? Surely not haikus!)
haha, this right here made me laugh out loud!
have you SEEN my commentary?
for a self-professed poet,i have an absolute horrid economy of words.
knowing me,your tiny, wee project would become a book that would make dostoevsky cringe.
shame watching gorilla decide to go all human torch on us,but that was his choice and had nothing to do with our interactions.
i did try to make a case for him though......./flushing sound.
you need to know something BB,and i mean this sincerely,i was being honest that i tread lightly when i feel compelled to engage with you,and nothing that you have really done outright to make me feel this way.i proceed from my base assumptions on who you are,and those assumptions are positive.it is more my style that i think i over-consider when engaging with you.i tend to be blunt, and speak in a bombastic and even aggressive manner, and i think i fear either offending you or hurting your feelings.which is NEVER my intent.i am sure there are many on the sift who may feel the same way when engaging me.
but here is what i love about you.
you never give up.
you will hang with anyone to work a disagreement out,or conflict,as long as they are being respectful and not being an outright ass..you will hang in there as long as it takes until there is some form of mutual understanding.
i really respect that.
possibly because i am the exact same way.
my commentary can be very long winded, mainly due to my very strong desire to be understood.
as for your "see something, say something"
yep..that flew right over my head, and i feel silly now because in retrospect that was pretty damn good BB!
but i hold to a general rule when throwing out dry and snarky humor.
do not hold back, the further you go into offensively absurd territory..the better.
and never..ever..feel the necessity to explain the joke.
that is like a magician showing you how he did the trick.
example:
years ago i was dating a wonderful young woman whose family was having a BBQ.her father was a retired NYC detective, grizzled and hardened from years on the streets and stood a whopping and imposing 6'6",and this was to be my first time meeting this legendary figure of a man.
to say i was feeling a tad intimidated is putting it mildly.my sweat was sweating.
so there i am at her parents house, sitting out on the patio pretending to be relaxed and chill, while my insides were finding new ways to tie themselves into knots.a shadow creeps over the patio table and a low rumbling voice asks me..
"you want a beer?"
"no sir,i just do heroin"
..........
tick tock..
tick...
....
and then this almost ground shaking rumble breaks the silence..
"heh heh..i think i like you son.you are alright.don't have any heroin, will pepsi do?".
that happened 30 years ago,and while i only dated his daughter for less than a year,he and i remained close friends till the day he died in 2004.
snark/dry humor is the art of the mic drop.
it can go bad, real bad but that usually only happens when you try to temper the joke, reel it back in order to not offend, and in doing so,you take a well meaning joke and make it plausible.so if your gonna do it..go for it..do not hold back.
if i had told mr kepic (that was his name, that and SIR) that i only smoked weed, instead of using heroin as an example.i may have gotten kicked out of his house and told to never see his daughter again, because weed would be an actual possibility, while heroin was so over the top that it was implausible.
hmm..think that was the first time i ever broke down one of my jokes.
how did i do?
Yes We Can. Obama stories are shared. What a guy.
@enoch
Here's the deal, my friend.
The internet does not come with a tone of voice. You might consider that the way you read my words are not the way they are said in my head (cue to your cafe analogy.)
And I can't read tone of voice either. I supply it. And I have bodily reactions to you, too, my friend.
We both do this because both of us are a bit difficult, and both of us are supplying tone of voice that makes the words on the page different.
I'm not going to apologize for what I wrote. I meant what I said. Every word. And there is nothing wrong with what I wrote. You didn't like it for your own reasons, but there is nothing intrinsically wrong with anything I said.
I will say that you have supplied a context to gorillaman that he could have supplied himself with the sarcasm button. He didn't do that. So was he kidding? I don't know.
You assume that anyone who reads his post has the extensive knowledge of his motives and personality. Newcomers won't. And here is an embarrassing admission -- although I too have been on this site for ten years, I don't have a sense of who gorillaman is. Sorry, gorillaman. I just haven't been paying attention to you. This is a character flaw on my part, also, since you seem intent on listing my flaws. I am pretty much in my head, and until there have been repeated interactions, I don't really take in people. I am selfish that way.
About the Homeland Security remark. Gorillaman was given the benefit of the doubt for his motives, he was given context. I assumed that I would be accorded the same gift.
So let me give context.
I am repulsed by the term Homeland Security. I was repulsed the first time I heard it, I am repulsed every time I hear it.
So when I take on racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophoabia, or any garden variety hatred, I invoke Homeland Security to protect us from what is the real threat. Not scary brown skinned people. But the people amongst us who truly are a threat to our way of life.
My mistake -- and it was a mistake -- was to assume that people get the connection. Because of context. Which of course isn't good enough.
I like my jab at the concept of Homeland Security. But it obviously isn't working. I'll have to rework it, make it clear. give it context.
Because I agree with you there, my friend. Homeland Security evokes the Third Reich and it turns my stomach. Every time.
How 'Rogue One's' Princess Leia, Grand Moff Tarkin Were Crea
I thought both were well done, but they overused Tarkin. A scene or two would have been fine, but he was on screen for so long you had time to spot the imperfections. Leia's appearance worked much better because it was so brief.
Also they just couldn't get Tarkins voice right. Cushing had such a distinctive clipped tone, and it was painfully obvious that it was someone else.
Insane woman assaults legal e-bike rider on public path
I can only take the video author at his word, but he claims to have repeatedly attempted to deescalate before he started filming.
And even then, the video begins with him attempting to explain that she has no legal right to detain him in an even tone of voice.
The woman appears belligerent and is acting well outside of her legal rights by physically blocking him.
I think the guy acted with remarkable restraint under the circumstances. The woman shows no signs of being open to reason or changing her mind.
Some people simply cannot be reasoned with. And I say that as a mental health worker who deals with rude and belligerent people constantly. (frighteningly often not the service users but the general public they have to deal with)
I do entirely feel the sentiment of what you are saying. It would be a better world, but it's not the world we live in. Lamentably, wishing will not make it otherwise.
Upvoting this video unseen so that folks can see the comments by Crushbug and Babymech.
Please. Oh please. What have we devolved to that what they said is anything other than common sense, humane, and civilized?
Anger is contagious and literally lethal. Can we just chill out and deescalate?
I say that as someone who gets pretty mad at times. I need to follow my own advice.
In Movies, Why is There a Dial Tone After Someone Hangs Up?
Honestly, it might be nice sometimes to have a disconnection tone, rather than get through half a description before realizing the other party dropped their call.
