Interstellar - Honest Trailers

ChaosEngine says...

"It's not that we don't understand it, it's just really stupid"

THIS.... for the love of all that is good and holy.... THIS.

The whole "love is a quantifiable force" thing made me want to throw up.

Look, I understand most of the science. Frankly, if the movie is good, I really don't care if the science is accurate. And Interstellar, to it's credit, puts in a lot of good work before it goes "full blown Shyamalan" (the water planet / relativity aspect being the best bit).

But it's just such a mediocre story...

Grandmas Smoking Weed for the First Time

Metallica's "One" in Medieval Times

My wife had the same kind of symptoms. She was diagnosed with Celiac disease and irritable bowel by her GP. And I learned the hard way to double check that I get gluten free chow. A night with her alternating between throwing up and curling up in a ball on the bathroom floor means I read the ingredients label on everything... twice. Moral of the story I guess is go see a doctor.

My gf had terrible headaches, constant nausea, and terrible drowsiness whenever she was hungry for her entire life... until I met her. I suggested she might be hypoglycaemic and should carry around a sugary treat or drink wherever she goes. She started doing that and quickly her hunger sickness symptoms could be basically controlled. But they were still there. One thing I always found strange about her eating habits was her insistence on having lots of bread. She never felt satisfied or full without bread.

After a year of doing that my mom suggested she might be gluten intolerant. My gf had never heard of the concept, had zero friends on any kind of gluten free fad diets. She decided to give it a shot, no gluten for 4 weeks. Boom all symptoms gone. More tests led her to trying out gluten after a week, and what do you know it was back. She waited two weeks, back again. Eventually she figured out a system in which she could have a gluten meal/snack/treat every four weeks without symptoms appear.
Also, she started to feel satisfied and full without an urge to eat bread, almost like the bread caused a weird drug like addicting withdrawal cycle which seemed to be why she always craved it. The gluten seems to build up in her system, or at least the allergic reaction and her body goes through a withdrawal after she has had too much, or too much too frequently, and doesn't get more in her system soon enough.

I eat gluten just fine. Together we eat vegetables, meat, fruit, and occasional pieces of the best gluten free bread (most of its sucks). I tend not to eat tasty gluten stuff around her unless it is a treat day for her Gluten products also make people fat, so it really isn't a problem to not eat them. No one on the planet requires gluten to live a healthy lifestyle. Bread, white bread in particular just gets converted into sugars and fat inside the body. It is empty calories.

How we give out moderating powers to Sifters (Controversy Talk Post)

VoodooV says...

how is this sifter defining "participation" is it just merely existing on the site? If it's just throwing up comments, I'd say that's not good enough as I can already think of someone here who does nothing but comment, he doesn't submit videos, he doesn't contribute to keeping the site free of dupes or dead videos (don't need to have powers to help out, you can point out dead or dupe videos to members who do have powers)

I'd say if you want to prove you are part of the community, make the low level powers available earlier. for example, all I can do is flag a dead video and set time, I can't invoke dupe or set channels or etc. I don't see why you have to "establish" yourself with the community to get those kinds of innocuous powers. but downvote or promote I would say still needs to be earned through submitting videos. I don't think we should have to apologize for having a certain culture on this site and if certain people don't fit in...tough.

It's my understanding from talking to other sifters that it's bringing back individuals who have been banned is what made some long time sifters abandon this place, not lack of powers for the new meat or the people who just lurk.

I think there needs to be more uniform and consistent application of the rules. posts that had been acknowledged as hateful by the staff still went without punishment or even a warning and that sends a really bad message that rules will be applied selectively, inviting people to see if they can "get away with it"

Orson's Apology

How does YouTube work and why do videos buffer?

VoodooV says...

why the hell is it a big challenge? I realize that yes, Internet connections can be flaky and you can't always control it,

but to me, this is easily solved by simply WAITING and let the buffer fill up. But in certain cases, the buffer will only fill if the video is playing.

when you hit play, throw up a screen saying please wait while we download your video so that it can play in an uninterrupted fashion.

but nah, they'll never do that because we've allowed attention deficit disorder to flourish throughout the land so we are simply unwilling to tolerate waiting a bit.

I used to do this ALL the time when apple quicktime trailers for movies first became big. Hit play, but then immediately hit pause and wait for that bar to fill all the way to the right. Sure, sometimes I got impatient and hit play sooner when I thought the buffer was going to fill before I finished watching the video, and yes, sometimes I got burned on this, but hey, it was on me, not on my ISP, or the video I was watching.

You can't even do that with youtube videos though, If i hit play, and immediately hit pause to wait for the buffer to fill, it never will, because they've got some stupid rule in there to only fill the buffer if the video is playing. Get rid of that stupid rule and allow the buffer to fill and I guarantee you the buffering symbol will go away for a lot of people.

The Shutdown Blame Game - Jon Stewart on The Daily Show

VoodooV says...

What's hilarious is that suddenly, now that they are starting to realize that they aren't going to win, they're pretending that the shutdown had nothing to do with the ACA, They've changed their argument again and now trying to pretend it was to "curb wasteful spending"

Which again, is only a valid argument...IF YOU ARE STUPID! It's been debunked time and time again. the debt ceiling is not about new spending, it's about PAYING OUR EXISTING BILLS!!

They are completely changing their argument again and just playing up the anti-Obama rhetoric and counting on low-information voters to buy into their nonsense.

It's like they've completely given up on even trying to be truthful, every interview with a Republican on the shutdown is just them changing the subject or throwing up an ad hom attack on Obama or some other logical fallacy.

They've gone completely insane.

Republicans vs. Democrats: Why So Angry? with Robert Reich

speechless says...

Throwing up a graphic (1:00) with Rachel Maddow sandwiched between Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reily creates a false equivalency.

There were no "good old days". We never were "All" in it together. It may be comforting to look back on the past with nostalgia but that's all it is.

Guy throws up apple, catches it, then eats it in one bite

That was freakish. Also - maybe the title shouldn't be "..throws up apple then eats it.." because I was prepared for the worst.

Do you watch related videos? (User Poll by eric3579)

Deano says...

Can you imagine if two related videos were positioned on both sides of the main submission? It really is about layout and design choices because sometimes I'm sure it throws up useful videos.

But the more tenuously related links might deter people from considering them.

Obama Gives Monsanto Get Out of Jail Free Card

Lawdeedaw says...

The federal courts don't sell seeds and they cannot be sued

Anyways, the problem with the courts is that they deal with issues that are not catching up with the times. Gay marriage? Too new a civil rights issue. Corporations are people? Yeah, but that's okay because it doesn't take away our democracy, does it? Damn goggle won't tell me!

If we want to truly look at government the way you do (That it can in no way go outside of it's scope for any reason) then you are effectively saying much with this myopic view--in my opinion. For example, in a free market capitalism, it is not the governments job to throw up one roadblock to any form of success. Monopolies are currently discouraged even though it is not the job of the government at all to do so. It's counter to capitalism. Free enterprise should be ruthless and profit driven. It's only checks and balances should be the consumers. One monopoly should have already risen to take over all America's communications, industrial and consumer services. Another monopoly for natural resources; food and gas, etc.

This is the true result of competition. One chess player wins the tournament and takes home the prize, the others lose.

Then when these two companies want to discourage protests and such, they should be able to block out entire neighborhood's food supplies and starve them to death. (This has happened in other countries since the beginning of time--though mostly government owned there is no reason a corporation cannot do this.) After all, it's not their job to provide people food--they are just a business and if they want to pull their business, meh. After all, the people dying are competing with the corporation.

You may find this analogy off track, or even silly, but I am trying to point out something serious. Government either changes with times or we destroy ourselves.

Ps, wrote rather quickly because I gtg. Wife and kids stuff.

Sigh, its not a federal courts job to stop health issues in food, its the FDA. The EPA is responsible for any environmental problems they cause. This really does nothing.

Edit: also federal courts can't halt sale, they can be sued for damages if they make a seed that hurts you.
