LG OLED are currently not very good - spotty - wonder how much better a couple of billion $ will make them.

What about Sony? Pretty sure they were pioneers in OLED tech, but maybe only for TVs?

RIVER ON FIRE! Gas explodes on Australian river near frackin

Mordhaus says...

After reading some more on the subject, this has been that way for many decades, possibly longer but the history is spotty further back. The CSIRO thinks it is possibly due to the nearness of a coal seam to the rifts and/or drought.

The recent fracking has drawn attention to it, with many locals claiming it has gotten worse since the fracking. Scientists are still researching it further to see if this is true.

I don't support fracking, but some of these reports usually are about things that were pre-existing due to the natural layout of the region. However, there are some cases where it is definitely a cause of the companies fracking in the area.

For instance, a recent study proved that drinking wells in Texas and Pennsylvania were affected by the fracking company not following the correct procedures. This led to the wells being contaminated with gas. They found that there were clear cases of substandard work that led to cracked steel and concrete in the casing of the drill sites. They said in the study that if the companies had followed the correct procedures, the contamination could have been easily prevented.

More on the wells - http://www.newsweek.com/fracking-wells-tainting-drinking-water-texas-and-pennsylvania-study-finds-270735

They probably should use the same method to check the origin of the noble gases in that river.

What happens when you give seagulls laxatives

Interesting tack if it is viral, because while Pringles wants to reach the teens market, they don't want to be broadly associated with this kind of behaviour, even if it was faked. Tough call. I'm gonna say not viral marketing because, like most conspiracy theories, it would require too many people --including delinquent teens-- to keep quiet about it forever.

Pringles just got lucky.>> ^Dumdeedum:

If it's a viral then hopefully they faked it. If it's a viral and they didn't fake it, then I hope they get their arses sued off. Spotty delinquents being cruel to animals is one thing, companies doing it for profit is a whole different kettle of laxative-laced chips.

Rail against it, but Photoshop has helped fat, ugly, spotty models get work as glamourpusses for years now. These below-average models would never have found work in the industry without Photoshop giving casting directors, editors and photo retouchers the power to make anyone beautiful. And it's economically sound in these recession-hit days. Why pay big bucks for a beautiful model when you can take an ordinary-looking person and make them beautiful in post-production?

doesn't get it....

I shoulda ticked the sarcasm box, I guess. Sigh

Still quite happy so far. I have noticed that the battery seems to drain more quickly than with Gingerbread- not sure if that's due to my simply playing with it more.

Also, there was one weird thing that happened. The phone shut off and rebooted in the middle of a call! Now if there's one thing that any phone should be good at, smart or otherwise , it's making calls, It had never happened before, and hasn't happened again, so we'll let that slide for now.

As for general operation, yes the phone is really, really snappy. Apps seem to launch more quickly and there are no delays when scrolling through menus. The camera is a huge improvement- yes it's pretty much instant now, and the automatic panorama feature is really cool. I wonder how Google managed to pull off the quick camera thing, as phone cameras are notoriously slow to launch and use. Hell, it's the same camera, just a software change, so I'm curious.

Anyhow, all the best to you and yours for the Holidays. I personally celebrate Festivus, but haven't yet been defeated in the Feats of Strength, so I guess it's not yet over!

Because of the many vast improvements over my old phone, I'm still quite thrilled with it, but my problems are a bother. Connectivity is definitely spotty. Most times I have no 4G and when I do, most times a speed test will result in surprisingly low transfer rates (5-9mbps down), but occasionally I'll get 20mbps/19mbps (down/up).

Also for whatever reason, during some phone calls it's been giving me high-pitched electronic squealing/squeaking/cracking that's like needles in the ear drums. Problem is I have time to exchange it, but since they are so scarce, I probably won't be able to.

Awesome that you got ICS on your phone. Are you enjoying it? Is it pretty snappy? I'm more than happy with how incredible the OS is versus the old Androids. Since they say it's purely a software improvement, does ICS provide zero-delay photos for you now?

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Galaxy Nexus. Has it got any better? Are you having the signal problems that others are reporting?

I'm still happy with the ICS update. My only mild disappointment is that Face Unlock isn't part of the package with my Nexus S, maybe later on they'll add it or maybe it's only for the Galaxy... who knows.

Imagine If All Atheists Left America

Hmm, Hawking and Hitchens are British... I suppose they both reside in the US though, so technically they are correct.

Also, they don't describe any causation for the final segment. IMO it is wealth and high education standards that create high atheism rates and good standards of living. The US has wealth, the education is spotty.

Bleep Bloop Starcraft: 1 Pro vs. 3 N00bs

Jinx says...

Yeah, but people say "lets play a Football Game" and that doesn't hold that back. It wouldn't matter what you call Video Games, the stigma off lonely nerds locked up in their basements was always going to be attached to it. I guess there has been an effort to re-brand it as an E-sport, but I think that kind of fails because its so different to traditional sports that people see it as a bit of a joke. Competitive gaming is gaining ground though, mostly due to the hardwork of relatively few progamers and commentators, mostly in the SC2 scene, showing that you don't have to be a spotty shutin to be passionate about gaming at a competitive level. And yeh, playing competitively far from takes the fun out of it, I'd say it was quite the opposite.

On TorcH: I think its a little harsh to say his qualification was a fluke. He's certainly not on the same level as the other progamers in Korea, but he's still pretty solid.

As for this stunt, well, tbh I think pretty much any Diamond League player worth their salt could at least 1v2 or even 1v3 a bunch of new players. That said, if those same people played a few more games together, found a build order to execute and made an effort to combine their forces and attack together then I think even the very top level pros would struggle to hold it off. They might have vastly superior micro, but I think ultimately the numbers advantage would simply be too great.
