Texas cop busts a pool party picking on the black teens

dannym3141 jokingly says...

This is the most vague, passive aggressive shite that i've ever had the misfortune to read.

"Too many people" are now being "taught" to disobey cops. How many people is just the right amount of people to be taught to disobey cops? How the hell is someone "taught" to disobey cops? Are there schools opening? Can you specify anything, or shall we just wave our hands and say "well if people are getting killed by cops, obviously people are educated in how to disobey a cop and therefore deserves to die"? Shall we do the hand waving? Yeah? Yeah, it's much easier to vaguely insinuate around something without having to pin yourself down to anything in particular - cos something specific could be disputed.

But golly gee willickers criminy sir, i sure don't mean to paint you as an excuse maker for the murderous uniformed psychopaths just because you make excuses on just about every single sift about it. Unlike you guys who like to paint us as cop-haters just because SOME of our posts on SOME sifts are disparaging towards the police.

And @bobknight33 - are you serious bro? Do you work for the police PR department or something? You should! Do what i say or keep getting slammed to the ground. You can rely on that tactic to create a functioning and safe society... right after the mass uprising and civil war ends. It scares me that people exist in this world who are so short sighted and arrogant..... and callous.. all at the same time.. I feel like you really do believe that "forever slamming into the ground" the dissenters, the people whose crime is DISAGREEING with your law, is an ingenious plan. Surely you can't think that, and you must be trolling at least a little. People might have gone soft these days, but if you make them scared for their safety then they'll react like the wild animals we inherited our survival instincts from. That's just making yourself the enemy of a much, much larger group of people - the people you're meant to be keeping safe from harm. You can't think this.. unless you actually want a fascist occupying force controlling people.

But I'm not going to paint all cops as racist just because one might be, as opposed to you guys

DAN DEACON - WHEN I WAS DONE DYING

eric3579 says...

When I was done dying my conscience regained
So I began my struggle a nothingness strained
Out a flash made of time my new form blasted out
And it startled me so and I burst out a shout
At which my legs ran frantic like birds from a nest
And I ran until drained leaving no choice but rest
So I fell asleep softly at the edge of a cave
But I should have gone in deeper but I'm not so brave
And like that I was torn out and thrown in the sky
And I said all my prayers because surely I'll die
As I crashed down and smashed into earth, into dirt
How my skin did explode leaving only my shirt
But from shirt grew a tree and then tree grew a fruit
And I became the seed and that seed was a brute
And I clawed through the ground with my roots and my leaves
And I tore up the shirt and I ate up the sleeves
And they laughed out at me and said "what is your plan?"
But their question was foreign I could not understand
When then suddenly I'm ripped up and placed into a mouth
And it swallowed me down at which time I head south
So I said
Hey ya ya
Hey ya ya
Hey ya ya
Hey hey hey

Well I woke up to see them, these two mighty steeds
With their mouths grinning wildly expressing my needs
As they stood there above me, being flanked on each side
I felt no need to fear them, no reason to hide
So I reached up to touch but they faded too soon
Yet their mouths still remained and stacked up towards the moon
How that ladder of mouth waved so soft in the night
And I looked up in awe at that beautiful sight
And I dreamt about climbing into the night sky
But I knew had I touched them they'd mouth back 'bye bye'
So I got up and walked down the path in the dark
And there deep in the distance my eye caught a spark
Of a crab twice my size with incredible strength
Oh it greeted me kindly and then we all drank
And we drooled out together right onto the ground
And the ocean grew up quickly right up all around
And the earth looked at me and said "wasn't that fun?"
And I replied "I'm sorry if I hurt anyone"
And without even thinking cast me into space
But before she did that she wiped off my own face
She said better luck next time don't worry so much
Without ears I couldn't hear I could just feel the touch
As I feel asleep softly at the edge of a cave
But I should have gone deeper but I'm not so brave
I said
Hey ya ya
Hey ya ya
Hey ya ya
Hey hey hey

Cord Cutters Unite! (User Poll by dag)

Krupo says...

The thing is, traditional sifting is still compatible as many of these shows already have clips on YT. I like the idea the Soft ad a stronger engine for recommending but would you envision using the existing soft mechanism or some other queue / standalone system?

So, some smartass went and reinvented the wheel ...

jubuttib says...

I think that at best this would be applicable only to the very lightest of electric vehicles (something in the "motorcycle" weight class, even half a ton is probably too heavy), and I have my doubts about even those, even when completely disregarding the sideways forces.

With a system like this you do not want more than a few cm (about an inch, at a guess) of suspension travel from when the car is lifted in air to the car at rest (= 1G vertical load), just from the weight of the car compressing the springs. If you have more the springs (which the loops naturally are) have to compress a lot with each revolution, which strains them, heats them, isn't good for rolling resistance, etc.

If we assume a 1000 kg car with a 50/50 weight distribution, to get about 2 cm of suspension travel the spring stiffness would be about comparable to a high level GT racing car. Comparing to high level sports cars, the street going Porsche 911 GT3 RS car, which is regarded as a pretty stiff, racy and track oriented vehicle has something in the region of three times that much travel, a normal commuter car can have way over 10 cm due to soft, comfort oriented springs.

So you can't spring a proper car with just these because it'd require it to be too stiff (also I can foresee shock absorption issues). Another problem is the 360 degree springy nature of it. You really don't want car tyres to move much aside from up and down. These have the problem that when you brake, the forces will try to push the axle forwards in relation to the wheel (i.e. the wheel moves backwards while braking), and the reverse when accelerating. You'd be (possibly) drastically changing the wheelbase of the car during acceleration and braking, which could have catastrophic results for handling in extreme situations. Many if not most cars these days are capable of braking at over 1 G, as long as they have decent tyres, so the front-back movement could be bigger than the up-down movement.

So yeah, doesn't really sound like a workable solution as the ONLY spring system on a car. Having some springiness in the tyres (either in the wheel itself of just having larger profile tyres, like we used to back in the day) can be helpful for comfort and even handling in some cases, but springing the car only via the wheels isn't a good idea, you really want to be able to control the wheels better than that.

If they do well, perhaps this is a way to eliminate suspension in electric vehicles, reducing weight but keeping a smooth ride.

Martha Stewart sure knows how to roast!

poolcleaner says...

There's plenty of crass humor outside of the states. Personally, I'm inspired to higher levels of crassness by British comics.

Doesn't comedy always seek to undermine convention? CNN shows that it's not really an accepted American convention, except perhaps to the entertainments sluts such as myself, but I enjoy a wide array of convention. And I'm the only person in my social circle that truly enjoys this humor, more Americans that I know do not.

http://www.cnn.com/videos/entertainment/2015/03/31/erin-pkg-moos-martha-bieber-roast.cnn

But regardless of whether we agree, a roast is intended to be shocking. Comedy is not a self censoring media because it must remain within the realm of knowing thyself. Knowing thyself, one understands the grotesque nature of the human mind in relation to the soft edges we falsify for our neighbor.

This must be an American thing. I just find this kinda humour crass and boring.

Even "roasting" Bieber is giving him far too much credit.

Mouse & Mountain Dew Experiment

worthwords says...

rat soup anyone.

It would only be fair to have a control rat submerged in water for that time. The rat gut and skin are full of bacteria which would aid decompositon.

Any carbonated drink has carbonic acid from the dissolved CO2 as well as the citric acid in drinks such as mountain dew. Funny enough bones/enamel are more susceptible to breakdown (by demineralisation from acid) that some of the soft tissue which leaves just stringy collagen portion of the bone which is also what the tail is made of.

I was blessed to hear from one of my truly favorite people here after another wonderful missive earlier and it brought to my mind another here for whom I hold much regard and love but who may not by my neglect know fully enough so.

So to you as well, my favorite toast:

May those that love us, love us.
For those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we’ll know them by their limping.

And if I may as well offer:

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Happy St. Patty's Day, enoch my brother,...much love.

It is always incredible to hear from you with a distantly close second that is your imagery. I love it...mesmerizing and seductive like a velvet blade. Some play in my mind recurrently.

Happy Drunken Irish Bastard Day to you too my friend. Please, to you my brother I offer my favorite toast:

May those that love us, love us.
For those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn’t turn their hearts,

I miss you too rougy. You long ago won a place in my heart and mind. I wax Irish upon you,

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face

And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Peace and blessings upon you my friend. Thank you very much.

Squirrel has a little too much

moonsammy says...

We had a squirrel behave a bit like this in our yard a few years ago. It kept trying and failing to climb a tree, couldn't get more than a foot off the ground without falling off backwards. We happened to know someone who volunteers at a local wildlife rescue center, so I put on some thick gloves and grabbed it in a nice soft towel, then put it in a cat carrier. A few days later we heard back that it had made a full recovery, and they suspected it was drunk. Turns out that when doing some home renovation my father in law had moved our compost bin slightly, but not all of the compost that it was covering. We assume the squirrel got into some old fruit that had fermented and got good and tore up.

The YouTube Interview with President Obama

MilkmanDan says...

Didn't know any of the interviewers except for Hank Green. I liked his questions the best, but he was clearly a bit out of his comfort zone and nervous -- the others seemed to be a little more steady in that regard.

They all went pretty easy/soft with their questions, but I guess that is to be expected.
