On the Recent Move ... (Blog Entry by dag)

gwiz665 says...

Everything works when you get here and there are ways around the DNS snafu. While the transition wasn't as smooth as we could have hoped, it certainly wasn't as bad as we could have feared. Hopefully, we'll be out of the woods by the weekend.

Cheers.

Roman Polanski finally arrested (Sexuality Talk Post)

>> ^Ryjkyj:
The real story here is that Polansky initially cooperated. He submitted a guilty plea based on a plea bargain that the fame-hungry judge then reneged on. It's a great example of our justice system going snafu.
EDIT: We love to make a big deal about how he was "Finally Arrested" when in fact, he voluntarily gave himself over the first time!

indeed. the case was already in court, polanski admitted to everything and both parties settled, then the asshole judge changed his mind and wanted to crucify him, which made polanski run to france
and, btw, where the fuck is the victim's mother in all this - she left the girl (with full knowledge of everything) at the party cause she wanted her daughter to get into movie business ... she should be on trial as well, if you ask me

Congressman Yells "Liar" At Obama During Health Care Speech

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Since I have no interest in starving to death while the agricultural production of California rots in the fields, no, that would be a stupid idea.

The fear-based fantasy that America would starve if we enforce our immigration laws is - as always - an amusing and fascinating delusion when it manifests itself. You really and truly believe that humans are brainless puddings that can't move, think, or live unless some government plan is marching them around, don't you?

So I could pay $720 a year, and have a deductible of what $20k?

$720 a year? If you can't afford that, then you qualify for Medicaid. The most expensive HDHPs on the market have maximum out of pocket limits of $5K for singles and 11K for families. If you're SMART (like me) then you'll also have an HSA or cafeteria plan where you set aside a chunk of your income every paycheck for health expenses. Try it for a while. You'll find that it is neither difficult, nor painful as long as you plan ahead, budget sensibly, and exercise a little common sense and frugality. I know I speak truth, for I speak from experience. I've been doing this for years, and I've never once had to worry despite having a family member who experiences serious medical needs on a regular basis.

My GFs cousins was hired to deny coverage claims, she sits at home, gets folders full of medical records, and without seeing the patient or their physician comes up with an excuse for the company not to pay.

Your example here falls flat, because auto insurance and life insurance companies do the exact same thing.

Why not car insurance is? I am required to carry it, and the gov makes sure it actually covers something

Not sure why you keep implying that medical insurance companies don't actually cover anything. That's patently untrue. When a member of my family got cancer, they were given $250K of medical care and I only paid $5,000 out of my pocket. Everything else was (say it with me) COVERED! Did I have to deal with red tape and the occasional bureaucratic snafu? Sure. It happens. But this insane vision you're trying to peddle of US medical insurance covering NOTHING is just plain bunk. They may deny an OCCASIONAL claim (and often with good reason), but you are trying to say they deny ALL claims. That is absurd, and puts your basic credibility in question.

Bush Was Warned About Katrina

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

All I've seen is you defending Bush, mostly by just saying it's all Nagin and Blanco's fault

You exaggerate and misstate. You cannot say I'm 'defending' Bush and ignore the following clearly worded statements to the contrary...
...the initial federal response should have been much stronger
Bush's fault ... that initial relief efforts were tepid, and that sufficient relief effort didn't arrive for a few days
Bush's fault that the first initial relief was too small
I never implied that Brown didn't screw up badly
Bush's praise of Brown ... feckless and self-serving

Neither can you justly use the absolute "all Nagin/Blanco's fault" when I said...
There's plenty of blame to go around on Katrina.

So I would respectfully suggest that your casting of my position is neither accurate, nor fair - and that you thoughtfully reconsider. What you incorrectly percieve to be a 'defense of Bush' is - in fact - round condemnation of ALL involved parties and an attempt to correct misplaced responsibility. My position is that all levels of government be held responsible for their mistakes. With Katrina, the errors were myriad, widespread, and went all the way from the top (Bush) to the middle (Brown, Blanco, Nagin) and - yes - even to the absolute rock bottom for every stupid citizen that wouldn't leave an impending disaster.

You on the other hand want to say that liberal environmentalists sabotaged the levees with their silly concerns about wildlife.

That again is an exaggeration and misstatement. I said that environmentalists have PREVENTED the necessary actions that would have reduced/prevented the problems in New Orleans and California. That is NOT the same thing as saying they 'sabatoged' the levees. That phrasing implies that I hinted they acted with active malice. Stupid? Yes. Short-sighted? Yes. Malicious? Unlikely.

your argument that we should hold Bush entirely blameless for any aspect of the disaster

See above. I never said Bush was 'blameless'. You mischaracterize me. What I say is to ascribe to Bush the PROPER blame what what he has actual responsiblity for... An inadequate initial response. That's all you can really blame him for. Everything else is on Brown, Nagin, Blanco, and citizens.

The problem I have is in the overloaded, biased, and clearly misleading hate in the language of the Sifters. The following are just a few examples of Sifters who are blaming Bush as if it was all his fault that the Katrina was a class-A snafu.

You know, of all the ***ups George W. Bush is responsible for, his Hurricane Katrina response is the one that hits me the most viscerally, even to this day.
I felt like Bush had in effect turned the richest country on earth into a third world nation, in a matter of just a few short days
Bush should have not just been impeached but executed for being to stupid to do his job!
a Cat 5 Hurricane should NEVER be blown off (no pun intended) like the president did.

All I'm saying is that it is rather silly to act like this was 'all Bush's fault' when there are TONS of other sources where significant blame belongs long before you reach Bush.

It was a nasty snowball effect. Environmentalists wouldn't let the ACOE repair the levees, so they were inadequate. People wouldn't leave the city, so there were way too many people still to evacuate. Nagin didn't force the evacuation until after the hurricane made landfall, so evacuation efforts were slowed by adverse weather. Blanco told Brown "We can handle it" as late as the 29th of August - so federal rescues didn't start until the 30th. Brown's first rollout was too small, resulting in less than adequate care. People in the city started acting like @$$holes, further complicating relief efforts. All you can really say about Bush is that - like a lot of people - his actions were too little and too late. But he's not alone in that boat.

WTF, is it swearing? (Wtf Talk Post)

How to Rig an Election - Disenfranchise the Foreclosed

Fjnbk says...

This pisses me off so much. I live less than a mile from Macomb County, and the exact people who are suffering because of deregulation are the people who won't be able to throw the idiots out who got them into their snafu. If the US economy is now considered terrible, then Michigan's is catastrophic.

I find it infinitely depressing that my neighbors are putting up "For Sale" signs at the same time they put up their McCain signs. What on earth are they thinking?

Tis the season, for monkeys watching what other monkeys think or programme you to think or want you to think is the "informed" decision, or correct, "choice", in order to make it feeeeel like you are actually having a goddamn say in aspects of the machine bigger than yourself, believe is "real" or according to some natural course of events yourself......(as if you would know what the fuck, according to the way you have been instructed to act and react to disinformation and utter fucking propaganda nonsense scenarios, having nothing to do with the world of the real......

and the watcher, according to the programmed inability or aversion to critical thinking and otherwise healthy endeavor, simply wonders why things are seriously SNAFU.....
Yeah, turn off the goddamn political cut and paste program, and get creative with making something yourselves.....Goddamn McCaine, Goddamn Obama, Rock the Vote and reset the motherfuckers, vote for whoever has the least chance of winning, out of the pool of worthy candidates who will be on the ballot, but who have been, shall we say, FUCKED out of any coverage form the bought and sold and complicit Media outlets everyone still suckles it's "perfectly naturally", like some 8-year-old-&-counting, dysfunctional breast-feeder attached to the nipple and mind than enables said insanity?????!!!????........(Fat chance)

Worst/Best Olympic qualifying race ever-100Meter Dog Paddle!

enemycombatant says...

"Unfortunately a visa snafu kept him from competing again." I doubt the visa was the only thing keeping him out.

I appreciate the spirit but I don't think the Olympics are the appropriate platform for this. You cannot tell me this man was as deserving as any one of the hundreds of athletes who have dedicated their entire lives to their sports only to miss their country's qualifying times by hundredths of a second during one qualifying race.

On that note, I'll be coming out of retirement to seek Equatorial Guinea citizenship and the title of "nation's greatest swimmer."

Attack on Iran would turn region into a fireball

NordlichReiter says...

"Let us attack in the almighty name of God." Isreal

Transliteration "Let us attack in the Name of Allah" Iran

Sound similar here?

The Policy makers are toying with the blueprints for destruction.

One question to the sift, how many people (not just US people) think its the right thing to do? (attack Iran)

I for one think whole damn mess over there and here is beyond a SNAFU and a FUBAR.

Times like these I wished I lived in an unreality.

People and Power: Friendly Fire

NordlichReiter says...

Those soldiers would have shit their pants if it was american people in that car.

This is bullshit.

Deep sadness over the accident? More lies.

I can tell you what happened, they saw the car coming, and opened fire with out warning. They shined the light on the car to blind the passengers so that they could not return fire.

You heard him, "I had a friend die the when a car wouldn't stop..." Discipline Soldier exercise it. There was no warning, only kill. This is how it works. I work with some reservists, from OIF and OIL, and one from Afghanistan they each tell the same story, but then again I'm not media. One of whom never saw combat at all during the first part of the war, and another who saw operations with mercenaries.

I grew up around this kind of stuff, this is what they call acceptable loss. I was taught by retired soldiers wars like these are a waste of life, and the resources that they use.

Also this is the normal FUBAR SNAFU.

Some desk jockey couldn't get the Intel to the guys at the checkpoint, that negroponte was safe and secure at Charlie Victor. Therefore a communication break down, and I would venture to say Criminal Negligence under the US Rule of Law.

Hi Dadoff-
Sorry for the snafu with some members banning you. They are a little quick to react because 99% of the time they are correct about self-linkers.

Glad you cleared it all up. Please do resubmit your video. And welcome to VideoSift!

Right at the end the Clinton guy says we showed great good sense with the Florida SNAFU in the 2000 elections...nice.

FYI did you know Katherine Harris (I think that was the lady's name that was in charge of FL's election process) was elected to the House and lost a bid for the Senate?

The Bambi Killer himself has gone DIAMOND! Horay to MGR!!!! (Sift Talk Post)
