Honestly, stop making me do stupid shit like taking out my laptop, tablet etc. Let me keep them in my bag because you can see everything you need anyway. Don't make me take off my shoes because you're also scanning right through them. Don't assume I've got liquids until you actually scan them THEN enquire.

And well, there you go. Other than the horrendous lines, which can be partially attributed to the enormous amount of time the above three things takes every person. We'd be all good, you can do your pointless shit and I'll carry on with my life.

The liquids gets everyone because we're all so damn frightened of maybe forgetting we drank some water to stay alive, that we're all checking our bags, wasting time, just in case we might have some.

Seriously, any other non-US airport, where you just throw your bag on, walk on through some scanner, pick up your bag and walk along. That's just fine, I'm at my gate from check-in in like 20mins.

I've always said the word genius is bandied around way too much, and this video is a fine example. CRT screens/tvs follow the same idea - individual lights illuminate in sequence quickly enough to form a static picture, each pixel changes very slightly 100 times per second (refresh rate) to give the illusion of the original picture in motion. The CRT beam scans ("rasters") from top left to bottom right (for example) in exactly the same way that the device in the video spins (it rasters in a circle) and however many times it spins per second is the refresh rate.

It's a cool project and his PCB work is nice, and he's done a good job of translating a picture into a timed set of lights. The videographer uses the term genius because he was not previously aware of the long history of rasters. This would be a useful tool for teaching children about the process - CRTs might not be popular anymore, but CCDs are fundamental to (astro)physics, and the principles behind both cover a huge range of potential teaching topics.

One of the first things I do whenever I set up a clean install of Windows is to set the default view for every folder to "details".

A single column of content allows me to cycle the content through my stationary point of focus. I can stare at a fixed spot and just let my free-scroll mouse wheel do the work. Which is simply great for quickly browsing for interesting content.

Multiple columns of content, however, force me to scan by constantly changing my point of focus. The new design does precisely that, it makes me devote much more time to every single entry unless I reduce the tab's width to intentionally force the layout to organise its content in a single column.

But it's the same issue for almost every news site out there, so I guess I'm just too old for this shit. /rant

I saw this on the news yesterday. They said the study was nearly over and the scanning equipment being packed up with zero findings, and on the very last scan of the study they found this.
I can't be sure how true that story is, but it's a good 'never give up' lesson if factual.

I've never seen Google Translate work like that on my phone. I used it to help me play the Korean version of Black Desert (prior to the English patch being out, and even occasionally after it came out as lots of stuff doesn't translate well), I start the App, point the camera to the screen and then take a picture of the region of screen I need translated. Then it scans that region for Korean text. I then have to manually highlight the text I want translated. It then gives the usual Google Translate translation, which is word by word translation, but not a proper translation. I've never seen a video feature and the photo one isn't as quick as seen here. If they've managed to make the video and photo feature work automatically and much faster than I've seen so far (though perhaps Spanish is easier to translate than Korean as it uses the same letters) then I'm super impressed. The App has the ability to take text typed as one would expect, and can also supposedly translate speech, I haven't really tried it, perhaps I can load up an Anime and see if it works...

I dare say that the newer models don't need anywhere NEAR as slow a scan time to get good resolution.

Either way, still a fantastic piece of machinery.

There were a lot of different tricks in there. A part of me really wonders if the mat on the table is a "printer/scanner" and that "marker" is extremely important. There may be a time-released chemical that helps all of this go down (meanwhile he may actually have a small printer on his body somewhere). When the smoke appears that is when the "card" is doing it's chemical thing (as you could smother one card with this chemical making it fully black, but then the printer could change the chemical pattern again as it is scanned and therefore reset the card with the other signature...).

The truth is, I have no idea how it was done, but I think what he is wearing (and possibly what is underneath--not to mention the pockets that are very hard to determine their location or size), possible chemical reactions used in a few different ways, a slim printer, and a slim scanner. Plus all of the sleight of hand tricks you did or did not catch...

If true, he used some fairly complicated technological prowess, besides his agility to get this done. But, for ages untold the creations made and used by magicians are just as important sometimes as the act.

This would also be THE perfect trick to give Penn & Teller the slip, as they may have never ran across anything like this (I've run into tech that could easily do lots of this--scanner through things, etc; it just depends on what is in that pen exactly...think of it kind of like invisible ink, but it need not stay that way and it more than likely can be made to "dissolve" as some sort of inert gas).

Everything was done here flawlessly, even the music feed into the act making it harder to catch.

Also the difference between conscious action and reflex. They've done MRI scans of brains in highly trained athletes and when performing complex activities like dribbling a basketball, they're brains are hardly working because the activity functions basically on autopilot. Meanwhile, people who haven't done the activity before are thinking super hard and MRI looks totally different. Riding a bike seems very likely the same thing.

I don't know if I ever said he was born in Kenya. I don't know. He ( his parents) did list him as being Kenyan citizenship on some school for or such.
His grandmother or great grandmother indicated he was born in Kenya-- So there is that.

I did say that the birth certificate he posted as a pdf did indeed look odd- When opening it in illustrator.

If you were to get your Birth Certificate copy they would give it to you in person or mail you a copy. If you were to "post" it as the White House did why would you not scan to JPEG or PNG?


They posted PDF. But would that truly produce 13 layers and look that way? We all scanned or OCR a document - you end up with odd characters and broken sentences but not what was posted by the White House..

I was curious and tried to Google the price of one and didn't have much success... admittedly I spent like less than 2 minutes before giving up (aka I scanned the first page and first page of shopping), but near as I can see, a good optical microscope will cost $2-4k, with most high end hobby ones around $3-500 range. I doubt there's a hobby range in SEMs. The only one I saw during that minute and a half search was a used one for $25k another for $27k and an auction listing that went for $2k (which compared to others seems out of price). Anyhow, between the auction price and the used listings, I figure roughly you are looking at $5-25k if you know where to look... Who knows what actually spending more time would have given me, but either way, I'm fairly sure a SEM is beyond most people's budgets.

Try this while looking at the stars in the night sky.
If you look directly at a star it will fade or most likely disappear all together, (look at the dimmer stars).
if you look directly at them, they won't be there, but look to the side of them, or scan side to side and they will be there. Stop again, and stare directly at it, and boom, it's gone again.

That is as factual as any of it. If people enter hell because they don't worship the correct god in the correct way, but have no way to tell which way/god is correct, or if any is, that is no fault of their own. If your proclaimed system was fair, god needs to come to each person and make them KNOW his truth, then offer them the choice to reject it. No, it's like some guy telling you in the courtroom hallway that the judge will say that, but no one has ever seen it happen, or even seen the judge or what happens after your case is heard, there are no ex cons at all anywhere.
