The Daily Show: Donald Rumsfeld Interview

I thought that Rumsfeld's portrayal of an innocent old man was Oscar-worthy. He kept in character for almost the whole interview. I think his witty comeback "why'd you say 'at least' twice" flattered his own ego too much and he broke character for 4-5 seconds. Watch his body language,(12.45-12.50, last clip). That's Donald Rumsfeld. Then he slipped back into 'sweet old man', with a sweet little laugh.

Man, I still remember it. Sept 11th happened and two weeks later I was on a plane from the East Coast to move to San Francisco. It was a frightful plane ride but once I got here I exhaled deeply. Little did I know that the next seven or eight years would be like the dark ages for America (not in San Francisco though -heh, heh, heh).
The media were the Bush Administrations little lap dogs for nearly the entire time. I remember all the huge protests that happened around the world in the build up to the War in Iraq and how the media treated them. They either did not report on them or made them all seem like a bunch of window smashing anarchists like the ones seem during the WTO protests in Seattle. I remember the day we dropped bombs in Iraq on March 21st 2002. I remember being let out of classes at college to help shut San Francisco down.
We shut it down for five days. Media did not report on it.

I was in San Francisco for that protest.

I remember all the huge protests that happened around the world in the build up to the War in Iraq and how the media treated them. They either did not report on them or made them all seem like a bunch of window smashing anarchists like the ones seen during the WTO protests in Seattle. I remember the day we dropped bombs in Iraq on March 21st 2002. I remember being let out of classes at college to help shut San Francisco down. Some group called ANSWER had organized an event a long time and coming that if we went to war in Iraq, San Francisco would not be "Business as Usual".

I was arrested with several hundred people, thousands had been illegally "detained" - we filed a Class Action Lawsuit with the International Lawyer's Guild against the SFPD and won our case to have charges of "inciting a riot" withdrawn. We won in the court aftermath but the cops still won; they took people out of it one by one and successfully defused the situation - we were peaceful protesters, no one had any sort of revolt on their mind, except for the anarchist kids and they definitely were there, they were a massive thorn for the entire situation.

We shut it down for five days with the help of thousands upon thousands of people and thousands of riot cops. Major media did not report on it. Maybe, it was cliche of San Francisco residents to force the city out of commission for several days but it was newsworthy.

This is a good interview. I appreciate how Rumsfeld is able to steer blame and corruption even in front of Stewart. He's truly a wicked and greedy man.

I love how hard-hitting Jon was with Rumsfeld, although I'm sure it would have been a lot more satisfying to punch him in his smarmy, smug lying face.

Not that I feel strongly about it or anything.

The War in Debatistan

The World According to Monsanto - A documentary...

notarobot says...

"The reason why GM crops are here is based on a deception that occured in the FDA." (25:00)

"From a corporate standpoint it was a brilliantly orchestarted takeover [of the FDA]" (30:00)

"Donald Rumsfeld was the CEO of Serle which was a Monsanto subsidiary. The former US trade ambassador Mikey Canter ended up on Mansanto's Board. Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas used to work for Monsanto. (44:00)

"Biotechnology is so important that we can't let a few little questions about cow safety or human safety get in the way." (43:20)

"Round-Up ready [genetically modified] soybeans account for ninety percent of the soybeans grown in the U.S.. In fact seventy percent of the food in American stores contains bio-engineered elements." (58:00)

This film is so incredibly quotable in it's detail about how Monsanto is a danger to the health of the food of the world, but I'll stop here.

Just when I thought I couldn't get more depressed....
America will never be America until Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are behind bars.

Hard to say this to you Rougy, but I agree.

I've only watched the first clip so far, but it is the first video account I've seen that finally goes after the real problem of the occupation. The failure to implement martial law after the fall of Baghdad.

What's worse, is that everyone should have known and expected things to go exactly as they did in the absence of martial law. Instead, Cheney and Feith deliberately and repeatedly refused to prepare any plans for a post war Iraq involving lawlessness or sectarian violence. They should be shot for that alone.

That said, Saddam had done far worse things to the Iraqi people, repeatedly and deliberately over the last several decades and Iraqis are better off for his removal. I still support the Iraq invasion, despite my enormous and vehement criticisms and problems with the following occupation.

This was in Kuwait.

Yeah alot of people here knew, I mean they been maintaining a airspace curfew on Iraq since 1991, plus who does shit to self destruct their power?

I never bought it.

What city was this? In Iraq?

BTW, not EVERYONE thought Iraq had WMDs. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al certainly knew better. Many of us may not have known better, but definitely didn't see Iraq as the threat that was being sold to us. Hopefully, we (Westerners, generally) are all wiser for it today.

In reply to this comment by Farhad2000:
Remember at the time everyone actually thought Iraq had WMDs, so what March came a rollin' everything got serious, curfews started, gas masks were issued for essential people and sirens were installed all over the city.

So yeah that play got cancelled.

Rand Paul: Sarah Palin's Choice for KY-Sen

^I don't see Sarah Palin ever getting nominated or elected at the top of the ticket. The Republican party is too misogynist for that to happen.

I know its bad, but for once that is a good thing.

I get the feeling that Republican presidents don't have much say in actual governance, they're just colorful figureheads. Ronald the wise Grandpa, George the born again Cowboy, John the centrist Maverick, Sarah the hot soccer mom and Mitt the crazy ass Mormon are characters that different sets of people can identify with. It's the Cheneys, Rumsfelds and Wolfowitzes who pull the strings, regardless of who's in the driver's seat.
