Ok I found this very very interesting and a bit dubious. So I went on a little mini mission - what I was most interested in was the birth day of Horus, which I could not find.

What I did find was this rebuttal (and a few others closely modelled after it)

So what I became interested in was this statement:
"Horus’ mother was not a virgin. She was married to Osiris, and there is no reason to suppose she was abstinent after marriage. Horus was, per the story, miraculously conceived. Seth had killed and dismembered Osiris, then Isis put her husband's dead body back together and had intercourse with it. In some versions, she used a hand-made phallus since she wasn't able to find that part of her husband. So while it was a miraculous conception, it was not a virgin birth."

I went to what is probably only one of MANY versions of the Horus story, the famed "Book of the dead"

And of Horus' conception it reads:
"[Isis] sought him untiringly, she wandered round and round about this earth in sorrow, and she alighted not without finding him. She made light with her feathers, she created air with her wings, and she uttered the death wail for her brother. She raised up the inactive members of whose heart was still, she drew from him his essence, she made an heir, she reared the child in loneliness, and the place where he was not known, and he grew in strength and stature, and his hand was mighty in the House of Keb."

Which sounds like an immaculate birth to me.

What I haven't done - is look through the rest of the document to find out if it mentions Isis having sex. And if it does, then I need to find out if the Book of the Dead is an amalgam of older fables (which I suspect it is). And if it is, does one of these fables, in its discrete form, portray Isis as a virgin? thereby proving there was a view/tale which pronounced the Sun-god of a virgins birth.

And if it does, the same treatment should be given to the rest of the claimed parrallels.


It seems to me that allot of the rebuttals (though im sure they dont claim to do this) find one, or even multiple accounts that do NOT gel with the tale of Jesus.

I'd like to go through the sources on by one, I wouldn't be surprised if some/most are not legitimate. But the fact that the book of the Dead can be INTERPRETED as correlating with one keystone aspect of the birth of Jesus makes me mildly interested. Im sure its way less water tight than portrayed, the entire religion debate would be totally moot if it was that easy.

Indeed, perhaps she will leave a trail of freshly erected posts behind her as she spins her way from town to town.

Dag, I suspect the escalators in the Southern hemisphere will spin you in the opposite direction due to the Coriolis effect. In fact, you should exercise extreme caution because the effect in the Southern hemispher may be to turn you inside out as opposed to round and round.

Even if the rules are unconventional, the self-link rule is plainly visible on the "submit a video" page when you're a P.

He's welcome to ask Dag or Lucky to reinstate his account, which they will do. If this was not a self-link, which the evidence indicates, then he can even try to submit the video again.

Hey guys, that's pretty fucking harsh if you ask me. Now before you jump down my throat telling me he should've read the FAQs before posting, let me say this. I love this site, but it's got some pretty unconventional rules. Some rules that, you might say, aren't all that obvious like the self-linking rule. Therefore, if you want the community to grow in quality as well as in quantity, you need to nurture it instead of swinging your banhammers round and round at the slightest provocation.

onestem is a friend of mine that I introduced to videosift. He lurked, much like myself, until he saw a video that he felt so compelled to comment on that he registered here. He enjoyed the (mostly) mature and thoughtful discussions, and although not as rabid in his usage of the sift, he still used the site and enjoyed it. When he posted this video, he emailed me to let me know so I could view it, which I did. When I saw that he had self-linked, I sent him back an email letting him know that this was against the site's rules and that he might catch some flak for it. This happened right before he went to work, so he didn't get the email until he came back. When he also noticed that he had been banned.

It really pisses me off when people say, "let's look at the facts" and they look at the length of membership at a site and the duration between posts as if those are the facts of the matter. I'm sure think that I'm only acting like this because he's my friend, and if it was anyone else, I wouldn't care. Well, you're damn right!
