RhesusMonk says...

Just want you to know that I've watched this at least once a day since I found it on eric3579's slam poetry playlist a few weeks ago. I'm in a 1200 mile long-distance thing with my lady, and this poem helps us a lot. This man is a hero. Thanks for the post; even a year later, it still echoes...

I still love this, but I'll be back.

Rives on Def Poetry Jam - "Kite"

The Art of Haggis

gwaan says...

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o' need,
While thro' your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn,
they stretch an' strive:
Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve,
Are bent lyke drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
"Bethankit!" 'hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi' perfect sconner,
Looks down wi' sneering, scornfu' view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him ower his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro' bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' heads will sned,
Like taps o' thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!

Jean-Luc Godard interview (1964)

Farhad2000 says...

Jean-Luc Godard (born 3 December 1930 in Paris) is a French filmmaker and one of the most influential members of the Nouvelle Vague, or "French New Wave".

Born in Paris to Franco-Swiss parents, he was educated in Nyon, later studying at the Lycée Rohmer, and the Sorbonne in Paris. During his time at the Sorbonne, he became involved with the young group of filmmakers and theorists that gave birth to the New Wave.

Known for stylistic implementations that challenged, at their focus, the conventions of Hollywood cinema, he became universally recognized as the most audacious and most radical of the New Wave filmmakers. He adopted a position in filmmaking that was unambiguously political. His work reflected a fervent knowledge of film history, a comprehensive understanding of existential and Marxist philosophy, and a scholarly disposition that placed him as the lone filmmaker among the public intellectuals of the Rive Gauche.

Korean rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody (rive performance)

joedirt says...

Come on, you've seen my posts. You know it was on purpose. "L" and "R" are no where near each other on keyboard. (I'm not worthy enough to have any petards) Though, YouTube does have this comment "sent shibbers down my spine". I am not going so far as say that I'm making fun of an entire race.. But maybe the first few bars of this song were a little butchered. Anyways, if it's more offensive than funny, I can change it.

Damn snake, that's awesome. Honestly, "rive" was the best I could come up with. I wonder if I change the title if people will be offended for voting for this?

SnakePlissken says...

Dag, the title on YouTube is "Thrilling Bohemian Rhapsody Live" and I'm not sure about you, but the "L" and the "R" aren't close enough to each other on my keyboard to mistakenly confuse the two.

Joedirt, why not just go the whole nine and make the title "Kolean lendition of Bohemian Lapsody (rive performance)" if you're into racism? You don't usually have problems with spelling.

Apart from that, nice performance. They obviously put a lot of work into studying the song's nuances.
