Need Help From Music Nerds/Lovers (Music Talk Post)

chingalera says...

I had the same, initial feeling I had heard a familiarity in the segment and I believe that's all it might be. The riff is so simple and common a measure in so many film scores and especially in songs where a simple piano measure introduces an initial thematic vibe for the entire work...usually because the piano player is mediocre or honed their skills by ear on a synth used to broaden the sound of a standard rock ensemble.

You're obsessing man, all you can hope to net from this is that pressure between your eyes and ears that won't go away until you STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!!!!

The Smiths - 'This Charming Man' - 80s flower waving madness

Save yourself if you're choking and alone

The Hives - Go Right Ahead (new single)

I spent 20 minutes trying to think of the lyrics to the song that has this same riff, and when I finally think of it, look it up, and come back to post about it, I realize that's an embedded video in oritteropo's post.
So, yeah. "Don't Bring Me Down".

We Didn't Shoot Our Son Because He Was Gay!

Then why are you so upset by it?

My comment was a riff off of yours, not an attack on them.

But this spot does serve a purpose beyond inflating the egos of those that produced it or the institutionalization of a shallow code of ethics. There are folks who, in spite of their own perceived tolerance, may not be aware that dismissive, condescending, and abusive attitudes can have devastating effects on the tumultuous minds of teens, especially those struggling with a discovered sexuality which they have been taught is an abomination.>> ^chingalera:
I don't really understand the quotation, OR your comment?

Levon.

PlayhousePals says...

I'm heartbroken to learn this. Levon has been struggling with his health for so many years now perhaps it can be seen as a blessing that the end is near . He will be dearly missed. I was in the wings during the 25th anniversary reunion of Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus album at the Lisner Theater in 2007. Ten feet away, Levon was double drumming with the late, great Richie Hayward ... they were like two little kids trading riffs and grinning from ear to ear. I just know Richie is waiting with open arms to welcome his dear friend to the big jam session in the great beyond. Go in peace Levon ... We love you.

I love the low "honking" sound that must now accompany any large, moving object in any Hollywood movie.

I kinda like how it turns into a dubstep riff in the Battleship trailer. Funny how "the honk" and "dubstep", things I normally hate in movie trailers, combine make something I actually like. Not that I'm actually going to see that terrible looking movie.

Michael Parenti - Democracy and the Pathology of Wealth

Robot Chicken: The Cabbage Patch Kids -- Origin

I assumed I'd put it in parody as it is a riff on the Cabbage Patch Doll franchise (and how they're made).

edit-
Warning: Too much hair loss causes low flying jokes to be totally missed. Why yes, my hair is shaved right now!
>> ^ZappaDanMan:

I don't understand why this is in the parody channel. This is from season 3, the flash back episode.

I like how you're speaking for "we" and "the sift". Eh. I like Burr... I actually prefer his podcast, because he just riffs. He's amazing at that... and it's not much like this vid.
Also, there's this: Bill Burr on The Moth which is probably the point I started paying attention to him.
In the most loving way possible, and in the words of Burr himself, Go fuck yourself!

@Deano "Everyone who has ever heard this realises what a talent Burr is and an underappreciated one at that"
Um, no they don't. I didn't, it would seem the majority of the sift didn't. Look, you find him funny, you find this bit funny, others did too. But don't be surprised that most won't.
And, I'm checking out some of his stuff on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imZ52DHBtug misogynistic crap, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Dybby26QnU More woman hating.
This I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h5kg5f8Im0
This is amusing until it gets to the part from the video two back that's just more women hating shit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3OkaJnlWFQ
So yeah, he can be funny. But you know what? Most people don't like just abusive comedy, we don't.
Sure, there's got to be some market for it, otherwise Andrew Dice Clay, with his complete lack of talent, wouldn't have become famous for just insulting people... but generally? Not going to happen.
And again, when it comes to something being sifted, if it's terrible quality, people are less inclined to listen to it, and if there needs to be context given to it for it to suddenly become funny, well that's against it too.

I'm not 'speaking for the sift' except to say 'I don't get how you can be surprised by this average video not getting much love here'... it hasn't. It's over two and a half years old, has had almost 1.5K views, and yet has 20 votes.

You like him, Deano likes him. I like some of his stuff. But THIS VIDEO is shit.
