Hi Ren! No words for how moving this song is.

I kept thinking of Ren from Ren and Stimpy in Space Madness…..”I’m not the one who is crazy…I AM THE ONE WHO IS MAD!!!”

Mom Reads Sexually Explicit School Library Book to Board

newtboy says...

This isn’t Afghanistan. Your infantile puritanical sexual hang ups aren’t law. I’ll say it again, if you want Shariah law, move to Afghanistan.

I read more risqué literature in 6th grade….granted my school had us reading at college level by then. What I know is that people who can’t handle this by high school are the ones with the problem. Southpark goes WAY farther, REN and Stimpy, on Nickelodeon, went WAY farther, Family Guy on Fox goes WAY farther. Not to mention the internet giving access to hard core German porn to any 7 year old means frank discussions about sex need to happen before they ever log on. If this mention of sex gets you in a tizzy, you are woefully unprepared for life in America.

Most high school kids are engaging in sex acts like those described…but you’re upset they might read about them? So delusional, bob.

Since you’ve never passed even a grade school creative writing class, you have no idea what is appropriate. In a high school college prep class, this is totally tame stuff.

You know it, everyone knows it except puritanical deviants who hate sex and incels who are afraid of sex or pissed at those who get to enjoy it.

Ren & Stimpy: Never The Same Face Twice

MilkmanDan says...

I didn't have cable or satellite TV (just OTA networks) until a bit after the peak of Ren and Stimpy, but I did see some of the episodes later as re-runs when I was in my late teens in the late 90s.

Magic Nose Goblins sticks in my head (and on the bottom of my table).

And the commercial for "Log" may well deserve some of the credit for my disdain with rampant ads and consumer culture.

Brilliant subversive show.

"To get a delicious plate of Mr. and Mrs. Pipe's "hog jowls", Ren and Stimpy must make it past an angry baboon. Purposefully based on the first Yogi Bear cartoon."

The difference a laugh track makes

wormwood says...

The Simpsons has no laugh track. Amazing that nobody named it yet. I think it was the first US comedy in a long time not to use one. Maybe they got away with that because it's animated, though the Flintstones did have a laugh track. Similarly, other modern animated series don't use laugh tracks (American Dad, Family Guy, Ren and Stimpy, etc.).

Also MASH banned the laugh track from the operating room in a compromise between the show makers (who wanted no laugh track at all) and the network, who insisted on it for all other scenes.

The "Ripping Yarns" DVD set comes with an optional sound track with out laugh track. I thought I would prefer the pure version, but I must (grudgingly) admit that that show seems funnier with the laugh track. It has occurred to me that "Curb Your Enthusiasm" might actually seem funnier with a laugh track, but still I am glad they don't use one--more integrity.

Animation was reminiscent of Ren and Stimpy. I really enjoyed watching this, so many of the cartoons today are cgi and I think that detracts from the animation somewhat. Everything is too perfect to the point of losing that human touch.
