It must have been his failing since his message was so true and undeniable, yet it was denied and ignored, right? Why not just kill him and prove the message by miracle? Better, why not make everyone KNOW, not guess or believe, he exists and go from there. Using unverified middle men to spread your message is just plain stupid when you don't have to, and downright evil when you then torture those who don't accept it from those con men.

Like I said, complete incessant obedient subservience and worship of himself and his son under threat of eternal torture for any found lacking. That's narcissistic insecurity with absolute power, not love. Edit:part of love is accepting or at least tolerating disagreement, even disagreeable behaviour, and murdering people you find unsavory is not tolerance, sending them to hell is far closer to hate than love.
You don't threaten people into "loving" you out of love. (and worshiping out of fear isn't love)
You don't murder millions because you love them, even when they're being naughty.

She could be the best one ever...wouldn't make me a fan. Early episodes blew it all for me with the tin foil costumes and plunger armed garbage can monsters. Oddly, my wife is getting into the newer ones.
I can't get beyond an immortal Time traveling hero bothered by anything, there's more than all the time in the world to fix any problem, or go back enough to never allow a problem to exist. Any time the hero controls time, the story is blown for me, even when they invent some convoluted reason time travel won't solve this episode's problems. Kinda like the all seeing, all knowing, all powerful, all loving God that allows evil to flourish and innocence to suffer....just doesn't make sense.

Hahaha. Funny. It's especially funny because I had Power of Love (from Back to the Future) playing in my earbuds and his dancing went perfectly with it.

I enjoyed it. I don't understand many of the criticisms - it's a film, were we somehow expecting to have our humanity validated by it? A scientifically accurate description of a mission would be boring - they'd almost certainly die in the wormhole.

The science wasn't unreasonable. It was a lot closer to reality than anything in star trek or star wars. Anne Hathaway's character muses on the power of love and suddenly it's a force of the universe? My memory might be flawed, but i don't remember hearing anyone confirm that or discuss it - in fact, the state her "lover" was in was kind of contrary to the opinion she gave and certainty to how she felt. We really do have no idea about black holes, either, so for all we know it could be manipulated by some future technology. The tesseract "library" was an interesting take on time travel/time manipulation.

The only thing that broke my suspension of disbelief was the bit when they said they thought they had years of good readings from the water planet due to time dilation. But that doesn't make any sense, because the number of signal pulses sent from the surface must equal the number of signal pulses received in orbit. My best guess is that the pulses would be elongated and have their wavelength shifted, possibly, but one thing i am certain of is that the total number can't be different.

The problem is, the older you get, the more you know about science, the less faith you have to put in films to give you a mind-bending experience that works on so many levels. None of it is plausible, so why rule it out based on what Hathaway thinks about the nature of love, or anything else?

Good film! And funny video. Someone's got to defend it though!

I agree with you, although my perspective has been changed recently due to the relationship I'm in. Never underestimate the power of love to make a parent completely blind and oblivious to the bad things their children do. Especially single mothers with strong maternal feelings who believe they're doing what's best for their child by never being critical of them...

On the plus side I've been experimenting with methods of child discipline, my partner now believes I've been studying parenting books since I'm getting good results, but in reality I've just been indulging my inner-scientist and figuring out what works best without resorting to a good beating

I LOVE thunderstorms!!!! Your description of that one is getting me all excited for one. How awesome to live so close to the water and get a view like that! I used to have a house with lakefrontage and seeing the lightning over the open water and hearing the booming thunder was quite a spectacular show...I sure miss it.

I didn't take part in that survey myself so I guess the % of women is slightly higher. I was a bit shocked though that there are so few women on this site. I have no idea what's scaring them off...other than the fact that there's such a strong male presence.

maybe he brings insight to such things as exposing humanities penchant for buying into conspiracy theories but i have to say i wholeheartedly disagree with his take on love,the power of love and passionate creative force it can be in regards to life.
what he is speaking of concerning "love",is ego-love,which is a want/desire and is a purely selfish animal and has the tendency to slip in to hatred quite easily.
of course i am basing my opinion solely on this interview which is not really fair at all.
i am surprised i never heard of him considering i am quite fascinated with symbology.
methinks this man deserves a bit of investigating.


The book doesn't really expose the penchant for buying into conspiracy theories, it delves deep into the penchant for creating them and techniques involved, (and when I say deep, I mean deep). As far as ego-love, I struggle with this myself and, (if intellectually honest), can't really place my finger on any love that isn't ego-love.

Edit: Egads wait, lemme rephrase. I guess love of nature doesn't apply.... Nor does love of siblings/children. In personal relationships, (the kind that make me sick to my stomach in love), I'm crazy possessive though. I guess I need to work on this.

The area in which believers and non believers differ in so many ways is in regard to how far in the future one can perceive the concept of “no pain no gain”.
When I first heard this analogy, and when I read Job for the first time, I too was tempted to see Dan’s point of view and get angry with God for the terrible evil He allowed to happen to Job. (Make no mistake God is responsible for Job’s misery and the death of Job’s family). But what I see now and Dan does not is the difference between the killer and God: purpose. The killer did it for no reason and God did this for a great reason. God permitted this incident for the purpose of instruction, demonstration, and perception. The pain Job and his family sowed produced some of the greatest fruit mankind has ever known.

Allow me to explain:
Let’s say my eight year old recently started taking things that are not his. I am concerned for the welfare of my son for his whole life and not his welfare for the moment so I punish him; say I give him a time out. My son does not perceive the long term benefits I may be doing for him by teaching him stealing is wrong so he now calls me mean or evil. I am doing something mean and evil to him to a degree for the immediate moment, but I am doing this in hopes that there will be a long term benefit that will outweigh the immediate pain.

Assume for a moment that God is indeed omniscient, omnipotent, and benevolent: all knowing, all seeing, all powerful, all loving. He knows every possible future for mankind. He may do things beyond our comprehension that for us for the “moment, lifetime, century, etc.” might seem mean or evil but He sees the long term benefits.

This is in essence what a believer believes. God has a purpose for everything. We may not see it or comprehend it but He is working for a greater good. Our faith and trust is in this. The story of Job is a very rare occurrence where God directly and drastically interferes with our lives. I’m certain that if Dan as well as Job were given the choice of sacrificing themselves for the good of their children, let alone mankind, they probably would. God choose Job because he knew he wouldn’t be cross with Him. I choose the word cross on purpose because for those who want to know Job is a type to Jesus who sacrificed himself for us.
