Stephen Fry on Meeting God

lantern53 says...

The idea that if Stephen Fry were standing before the pearly gates and had something to say to God...that's pretty laughable right there. He'd be shaking in his keds, just like anyone else.

And not because God is vengeful...God, as a conscious Being, who put the whole of creation into motion...anyone would be gobsmacked, to use Stephen's vernacular.

"In the 1990s, the U.S. Army decided it could not afford to continue developing complicated, maintenance-heavy vehicles for this purpose. The Grizzly program was canceled in 2001. The prototype developed never made it to the production lines."

THIS is why we "liberals" don't like so-called success. This. Success for what? So we can call human life a trifle? We can't afford to develop appropriate life-saving vehicles, and yet we have so much wealth in this godforsaken country.

It's godforsaken, because your Christ did NOT advocate material success. He cared for the tired and the hungry. Guardians of Democracy? More like a bunch of A-holes...

At least the military had an answer. I like the military, but I hate our "successful" American Judas'. Selling out their fake Jesus eeeeeevery freaking day. And for what? I hope His love doesn't buy them past the pearly gates because THAT would be a tragedy. I'll see you all in hell.

That certainly is Chinga's mindset...and the song seems to mirror it as well.

Ok so, been trying to figure out the best way to inspire myself musically without the use of my un-damaged vocal range, with a go-to musical instrument battery I know my way well-enough around to use as a framework for a studio-I can get sounds outta anything, have access to any rudimentary keyboard but am flexible with strings, woodwinds, bass. Now you have to understand if yer mind interprets a musical instrument as some outer-space device requiring a manual or instruction via direct-transmission in order to fire: I can coax pleasing tones from vegetables. What I need is a new kick. I can go for miles rendering compositions only I want to hear with a guitar, harmonica, saxophone-IO crave arrangements, and bass and drums..

Can Keep great time and love percussion, vibes, marimba, steel-drum but never had a set to wail on worth a fuck till now: Same as it ever was….

Worlds’ the oyster, and fuck the dumbshitz, I have access by nature of incarnation and geographical locale and resources to make anything happen-Goin’ for percussion and bass, and solo-Only I can work with a band of miscreants, those dwelling inside my own head, be-damn! The logistics of other fleshapoids in the way for the task of rendering!!....Why bother? Make it and take it to musicians I don’t have to fuck with-Maybe I should have been Quincy Jones fucking adopted white baby…..

Shootin' for a fat stack 'o pearly-white Slingerlandz, maybe Ludwig-Need 2 stellar floor toms and oh fuck....adding shit already-!

Secret of the Sexes - "Perfect Female Body"

dannym3141 says...

>> ^chilaxe:

Was this junk science really aired on the BBC? Smart folks they've got working there.

I don't think people are going to gok wan's tv show for their reliable science facts updates. It's good enough for what gok wan wants it for, because he's only going to use it as a tool to make the fat women on his show feel better about being fat. If anything, it is preferrable if the tools are skewed to make the men choose a pear shape with a huge flabby arse, because persons of that description appear on his show exclusively.

I'm all in favour of taking it off the air completely, instead of just improving the science. In context of the show though, i think you'd know it wasn't meant to be very sciency, because this is the first 3 minutes i've seen of gok wan where he wasn't either making high pitched noises and gushing over an ugly woman, or reminding me about what we saw in the previous episode/part, whilst looking ahead to what was about to come in the next part/episode. The latter takes up about 70% of the show anyway.

Also, i'd say that personality is the "decider" for me. Without that, i'm just not interested beyond the timespan of a week. I guess that doesn't get us any closer to the perfect female body though. But is it ever really just the body anyone goes for, and is the test worthwhile to begin with - perhaps we have body ranges we find ideal instead?

Opposition to Paying for Capitalism's Crisis

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I learn so much about what I believe when I talk with you. And here I thought I wanted to reform our election system so that corporations could not so easily subvert the democratic process. And here I thought I wanted to reform our economic system so that corporations were held responsible for their actions and not allowed to siphon and hoard societal wealth. Who knew that I was such a fan of the global corporate empire? And who knew that removing all barriers to corporate wealth and power would result in liberty? It sounds so unintuitive and absurd on it's face that I would not have believed it had I not learned it from someone in possession of such formidable mental prowess. ^The more we deregulate, privatize, cut taxes for the wealthy and cut services for the rest, the worse things get. Unregulated capitalism has become its own worse enemy. If we want to save capitalism from itself, we need regulate it, so that it can not be used as a weapon to subjugate the working poor, the middle class and labor. The economic reforms you call for are the same reforms called for by corporatists and plutomists like the Kochs, The Scaifes, Luntz, Norquist among other corporate elites. How is it that you can rail against crony capitalists and regurgitate their propaganda in the same sentence? In my opinion, it is be you are being manipulated to put for an agenda that appeals to your base nature by people who could not care less about you.
Unregulated capitalism has brought us:
-Vast Income Inequality
-High Unemployment
-Wage Cuts while productivity continues to rise
-Endless War for profit, oil
-Massive political corruption at every level of government
The 'free market' you dream of is a pie in the sky, no different from St. Peter and the Pearly Gates or 72 Virgins. "Free" Market ideology has been at work in American Government for over 30 years, and it has resulted in the creation of a global corporate state that is anything but free. Stop making excuses for failure. It's OK to admit you were wrong. Being wrong only becomes problem when your foolish pride hinders you from assessment. Pull your head out of the sand. @marbles

Good Job. I link an essay that specifically identifies the problems and you respond with hollow partisan talking points that ignore the problems. Nationalizing risk by the big banks and privatizing profits is not free market capitalism, no matter how much you claim it to be.
Free market ideology didn't create a global corporate state. Putting our economy in the hands of a select few did. The Federal Reserve is an above the law private banking cartel. And whether you believe in a free market or not is irrelevant. Believing that Wall Street politicians are going to solve the problems that they help create is the real delusion.
Banks have taking over the government. Your solution: Support Wall Street puppets and regurgitate their talking points.
Banks have taking over the regulatory agencies. Your solution: Pass more Wall Street written regulations.
Government uses our tax money to bailout corporations and wage war around the world. Your solution: Give them more money to funnel to the top and fund more death and destruction.
So who's really being manipulated here? The corporate shadow government is erecting bars around your glass house and you're busy parroting their talking points. Good job pal.
