Disrespectful students during U of O's first snowfall

chingalera says...

@brycewi19, Yeah well, look where they're at-Smack-dab in the middle of the valley of suffering-The damn native Americans never even stayed there all year! These choads are a sun-starved, rag-tag collection of all the dysfunctional, depressed, and derelicts who fled their home cities all over the country and gravitated towards that vortex.

Lived in PDX, worked in Eugene, Oregon has an over-abundance of America's flotsam and jetsam and continually too-stoned-for-their-own-good, hipster flakes and in the rural areas, a certain brand of redneck that makes Texas' seem tame!

Even black folks are afraid of the place! Pasty White People, EVERYWHERE!
Welcome to Oregon!

Elevator Murder Experiment

chingalera says...

I find it amusing how cloistered some of you folks are who continually associate Texas with ya-hoos, inbreds, gun-happy rednecks, etc. You folks who have never been to Texas,or the southern United States at all???...go fuck yourselves.

Pick ANY fucking state in the U.S. and you will find that morons and idiots, and the generally fucked, abound.

Happy to have been raised in Texas and becoming more grateful for my heritage the older I get, commensurate with how increasingly out-of-touch with the planet the rest of the world becomes.

The short-list of associative derision applied to Texas from some of the users here PALES when compared to the shithole the rest of the fucking country would be in today, were it not for a fuck-load of native Texans, and expatriates from the Northern Untied States who decided to tell the pussies there to kiss their asses, and come on down to a state larger than many countries, with unlimited resources human and otherwise, and massive brass balls.

Ever been to fucking Rhode Island?? Florida?? How about Portland, Or.-Head to PDX if you wanna meet a bunch of ineffectual hipsters and listen to pseudo-intellectuall horseshit over 10 coffees....
Insult where insult is due ya buncha wankers what think Texas is fulla hillbillies!!

That is all ingrates, return to your regularly scheduled delusions.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2012 Flea Acceptance Speech RHCP

chingalera says...

my fav Flea moment was seeing him in the film, "Let's Get Lost" hanging out with Chet Baker whom they tracked-down resurrected for a recording session for the film months before he was gone.
Flea has always been about the music-Funny though, never really dug on the Chilli Peppers heavily, ignored most popular music from the nineties altogether-Ex saw them in PDX back in the late 90's on a bill with the Beastie Boys, said it was the best show she'd ever almost been trampled at!

Herman Cain Sings! Imagine there's no.... Godfathers?

Are you from Portland Bareboards? Cause if so, there are eight of them in PDX, and one in Vancouver.

>> ^bareboards2:

Maybe it is a West Coast thing. There's one in the next town over, in the state of Washington.
I've never eaten there. I like good pizza. You don't get good pizza from chains, I've noticed.

I agree the premise is humorous, for sure. The chicken/cult part was pretty funny, but I never laughed out loud, I might have smiled. It has something to do with the delivery. For the most part it just sort of bummed me out because I know it could be really funny and I really wanted to like it but instead feel it's sort of obnoxious. I wonder what pdx peeps feel about it? I felt bad for Buscemi & his role in one of the most excruciating parts, haha, only because I LOVE that guy!

BTW: I love this site, thank you!

Some of Portlandia is pretty funny. I loved the bit where they investigate the chicken's heritage.

Meant to reply to the post - but this will do!

It's strange that I just watched the first two episodes of Portlandia for the first time. Just finished a minute ago before I watched this. The beginning of this video made me laugh more than I laughed in all two 20 minute episodes of Portlandia. Not that this is funny, but the whole sustainable thing (which I agree with) and dreadlocks thing made me laugh at Portlandia's attempt at making fun of Oregon's culture. It was just a coincidence that made it humorous to me, but damn, that show sucks. I want to grow mushrooms!!

Impromptu Portland Sift Up (Sift Talk Post)

Ryjkyj says...

You sons of bitches. I could have been there in fifteen minutes and I wouldn't have let you drink apricot beer.

The Pacific Northwest has the best beer in the world, hands down. Anyone who might doubt that would do well to remember that 80% of US hops are grown in Washington alone. We had a fire here a few years back in one barn in the Yakima Valley. That one barn contained 4% of the worlds hop supply.

But I swear that if there's ever another meet-up in PDX, I won't get all preachy about the beer.

Timelapse of drivers failing to get up an icy hill

amburglar says...

Word, oohahh. I moved to PDX from St. Paul, MN two years ago, and I won't drive when it snows in Portland. There's a solid plate of ice on the ground this morning. . . They don't salt the roads here either so it doesn't melt until the cold breaks.

The way I look at it- it's nice to get a few snow days every winter, something I never got in MN.

I think this video is even better for sheer madness: http://www.videosift.com/video/Cars-play-pool-on-unbelievably-slippery-roads . This one is also from Portland.

Ah. The south waterfront of Portland, Oregon. I love my city, but the snow always makes us look stupid. Too many ex-Californians who haven't a clue how to drive in bad weather.

I live in PDX, too. It's not the snow that makes Portland drivers look stupid — I grew up in Boston, and the snow is completely different here. In Portland, the snow compresses, melts, and refreezes on the pavement. Any snowfall quickly turns to ice due to the temps that fluctuate around 32°F. Granted, nobody does know how to drive on snow here but that's not the issue: driving on this snow — and by "snow" I mean "ice" — is treacherous no matter where you live.
