paratroopers do jump out the back, and no, there arent any entanglements or anything like that from doin a tailgate jump and you use the same cable to hook your static line to on a door jump as you do a tailgate jump. You still go one at a time, your static line is just 2 seconds longer. But typically door jumps are made, especially in the 82nd and especially with c17/130

oh this brings back memories =)

Why don't the paratroopers jump off the back?

I'd imagine it'd be harder to mount the chute cable at the back. Also, if they all jumped at once they might fuck up each other during the decent. May as well use the side door with the cable and the one-at-a-time method.

David Mitchell - Dear America...

nanrod says...

In the absence of an idiomatic or metaphorical interpretation of a word or phrase that makes sense in the circumstances all we are left with is the literal interpretation. Your two definitions of "hold down" make no sense when applied to defending a fort against attackers while to hold the fort is a common long time usage and not one that just happens to be in the dictionary. Remember in the movie "The Longest Day" the British paratroopers were ordered to "hold until relieved". "Hold down until relieved" would have made no sense. >> ^CircleMaker:

Still, David's objection to 'hold down the fort' is based on a literal interpretation of the verb 'to hold down.' All I was saying is that 'hold the fort' becomes equally silly when interpreted that way. I have nothing against the verb itself. We go back a long way, 'to hold' and I.
Furthermore, 'to hold down' also has many meanings, including...
hold down
a.to restrain; check: Hold down that noise!
b.to continue to hold and manage well: She held down that job for years.
Just because something is in the the dictionary doesn't mean it makes literal sense, as David was implying it should.
>> ^nanrod:
Fortunately, the verb to hold makes perfect sense. Unfortunately your knowledge of English appears to be limited. "To hold" has many meanings, one of them being " to retain forcibly, as against an adversary".
>> ^CircleMaker:
Unfortunately, the verb 'to hold' makes just as little sense as 'to hold down' in referring to keeping a fort stable in somebody's absence. If David has a problem with the notion of hover-forts, he ought to be troubled by the implications on the width of said fort which are manifest in any usage of 'to hold' taken literally.

Pentagon Investigation Evidence Contradicts Official Story

bmacs27 says...

I think this site provides a good debunking of this video. What I like about it specifically is that it's from a known figure within the "truther" movement. What he's insinuating is that the "magic show" theorists such as CIT are likely paid to discredit any call for more information, and provide a distraction from more pressing questions about more plausible scenarios.

Specifically he asks:
* How was it possible that the Pentagon was hit 1 hour and 20 minutes after the attacks began?

* Why was there no response from Andrews Air Force Base, just over 10 miles away and home to Air National Guard units charged with defending the skies above the nation’s capital?

* Why did F-16s fail to protect Washington on 9/11? Was the Langley emergency response sabotaged?

* Why did Flight 77 hit a part of the building opposite from the high command and mostly empty and under renovation, with majority of victims being civilian accountants?

* Why were Pentagon workers not evacuated or warned that Flight 77 was approaching, despite those in the bunker tracking the attack plane as it closed the final 50 miles to the Pentagon?

* How could Flight 77 have been piloted through its extreme aerobatic final maneuvers by Hani Hanjour, a failed Cessna pilot who had never flown a jet?

* Why did the flight instructor who certified Hani Hanjour, a former Israeli paratrooper, disappear a few days after his 9/11 Commission interview?

* Why was a war game drill used to vacate the National Reconnaissance Office for the duration of the attack?

* How was a C-130 pilot able to intercept the plane incoming to the Pentagon while NORAD was not?

* Did the Pentagon, the nerve center of the US military, really have no missile or anti-aircraft defenses?

* What were Vice-president Cheney’s orders when Norman Mineta described him speaking to a young man in the presidential bunker as the plane approached, saying, “Of course the orders still stand, have you heard anything to the contrary?

For a conspiracy moderate like myself, these questions deserve addressing. Particularly questions about how a plane was allowed to reach the pentagon in the first place. Any politician claiming to be "tough on security" ought to be able to answer for how, on his watch, a commercial airliner piloted by an untrained pilot was able to strike the nerve center of the US military almost an hour after we had already been attacked.

If nothing more nefarious, Dick Cheney should have been indicted for gross negligence on that day.

Bill Kristol Admits That The Public Health Option Is Better

TangledThorns says...

Bill Kristol is very ignorant on military healthcare. As a former soldier during peace time I have to say the health care sucked. No choice whatsoever!! I was a paratrooper so I got injured a lot and have plenty of experience with military medicine hackery. Had to deal with wait times, referrals and all that crap. So yeah, I prefer my insurance provided civilian health care.

The paratrooper song: "Blood Upon the Risers"

calvados says...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_on_the_Risers

He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright
He checked off his equipment and made sure his pack was tight;
He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar,
"You ain't gonna jump no more!"

(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!

"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
Our Hero feebly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up;
He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock,
He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop,
The silk from his reserve spilled out and wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

The risers swung around his neck, connectors cracked his dome,
Suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones;
The canopy became his shroud; he hurtled to the ground.
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
He thought about the medics and wondered what they'd find,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild,
The medics jumped and screamed with glee, rolled up their sleeves and smiled,
For it had been a week or more since last a 'chute had failed,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

He hit the ground, the sound was "Splat," his blood went spurting high,
His comrades then were heard to say: "A helluva way to die!"
He lay there rolling round in the welter of his gore,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

(CHORUS)

(slowly, solemnly)
There was blood upon the risers, there were brains upon the chute,
Intestines were a'dangling from his Paratrooper suit,
He was a mess; they picked him up, and poured him from his boots,
And he ain't gonna jump no more
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!

i've had this discussion with people on videosift before and cant be bothered getting into a flame fest about it again, but feel free to private message me and i'll link you up with a bunch more data.

You quoted some statistics, and this makes his argument invalid? Then you say, "Ive had this argument before". Appealing to past arguments as though they make you right, appealing to false authority.

Link to sources, bibliography. Until then your argument is unsustainable.

Your argument, is a very gentle Non Sequitur. It has no context, other than you had this discussion with another member. Also, linking to research does nothing unless you have good thoughts to go along with your quotes. Hence the confusion I have here.

Before you attack an argument make sure that you have your sources posted. Here is what I have from a Lt. Col. Dave Grossman Army Ret. Quoted from his book, titled On killing. "Lt. Col. Grossman a former army ranger and paratrooper taught psychology at west point is currently professor of Military Science at Arkansas State University."

The statistics are in here, and found by Interpol.

EDIT: I do realize that your comment is flame bait.

By the way, this was really a long drawn out appeal to authority. And also a plug for the book because I think it is good!

I thought you would appreciate this:

Reaction to Snakes
• Civilian: Runs away from the snake screaming.
• Paratrooper: Lands on and kills the snake.
• Armor: runs over snake, giggles, and looks for more snakes.
• Infantry: "Look, a pussy cat. Come 'ere kitty....Ouch! Hey, that's not a pussy cat."
• Army Aviation: Has GPS grid to snake. Can't find snake. Back to base for crew rest and the club and some sort of drink called "The Snake."
• Ranger: Plays with the snake, then eats it.
• 2nd Ranger: Assaults the snake's home and secures it for use by friendly snakes.
• MI: analyzes all available intelligence and national asset input on the reptilian situation; reports sighting of Godzilla to National Command Authority.
• JAG: Advises the snake on the rules of engagement and the law of war as it pertains to the snake and its defensive posture.
• Quartermaster: Captures snake and applies a NSN to it. Implements a FOI procedure and picks up snake on property book. Has company commander sign hand receipt for "Snake, Green, One Each," as non-expendable unit property.
• Chemical Corps: Starts to gas the little booger, but then realizes that there is an M-18, A-2 Respirator especially made for snakes, remembers the Chemical Corps Motto, "UTRWBAG" (Up Their Rear With Bugs and Gas), and conducts three experiments on it that have been strictly prohibited by the Clinton Treaty of 1999.
• Navy SEAL: Expends all ammunition, several grenades and calls for naval gunfire in a failed attempt to kill the snake. The snake bites the SEAL then retreats to safety.
• Artillery: Kills snake, but in the process kills several hundred civilians with a massive TOT with three FA BDEs in support. Mission is considered a success and all participants (cooks, mechanics, clerks) are awarded Silver Stars.
• Marine Recon: Follows the snake and gets lost.
• Pathfinder: Guides the snake elsewhere.
• AF Fighter Pilot: Mis-identifies the snake as a Russian HIND helicopter and engages it with missiles. Crew chief paints a snake on airplane.
• AF Pararescue: Wounds the snake in first encounter, then feverishly works to save the snake's life.
• Green Beret: Makes contact with the snake, builds rapport, wins its heart and mind, then trains it to kill other snakes.

Paramilitary forces?! You mean paratroopers, jwray. That and they couldn't get permission from the neighbouring countries for those kinds of operations. And yes you do need permissions and bases near or they would all die, but then you don't think things trough do you?

Oreilly? tsk...

No fireflies? Bah!

In reply to this comment by firefly:
Oh yeah, it's chock full o' ants! You have to protect all the eggs until the end of the stage when they hatch. Rival colonies try to steal them: so far I've seen regular ants, paratrooping ants, worms and ladybugs (who boot them off the screen), beetles (the "tanks"), and spiders.
Worker ants will repair damaged eggs, warrior ants will help you shoot.
It's a pretty standard mouse-shooter, shoot everything that moves, and get upgrades. Things get pretty hectic after the first stage. Your clicking finger will definitely tire out.
Didn't see any fireflies, though

In reply to this comment by ant:
Let me know if there are really ants in it.
