How Do Pain Relievers Work
>> ^spoco2:
But what about paracetamol? That's different, because you can take the allowed dosage of that and the allowed dosage of ibuprofen at the same time without interaction... but how does it work?
Paracetemol is the major painkiller here in Thailand, which annoys me because I believe that I am essentially immune to it. I took paracetemol (tylenol) often when I was in my pre and early teens for migraines. At some point, I found that it just wouldn't do anything for me anymore. Ibuprofen and Aspirin both work great, so I always use those when I have a choice -- but the default is always Paracetemol here.

I still don't understand how painkillers help Max Payne recover from bullet wounds...

Mmmmm painkillers!![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/tonguewink.gif)
She's high as a kite after getting her wisdom teeth yanked.
When I had my teeth out, I apparently was resistant to the general anesthetic they used. I made it through the entire "Count down from 10" and my dentist didn't know what to do, so he had me start counting back up again.
Eventually I was knocked out though, but when I woke up, much like @PHJF, I was completely aware of everything. Wasn't loopy in the least. They figured I was bluffing, so they helped me down a hallway to a room where I was supposed to "Wake Up". (Probably helped me so I couldn't sue if I fell.) And then proceeded to leave me there looking at a wall for 15 minutes before anybody checked up on me again.
When they came in the second time they said "Are you awake now?" In a bubbly voice, to which I very flatly replied "Just as awake as I was 15 minutes ago, thanks." Felt bad about that later, but ffs, I was fine.
Unfortunately, my surgery didn't go as well as others. My mouth was very swollen (all 4 out) and the painkillers they gave me afterward didn't do anything except for make me drowsy. So, in a sense, they worked when I was sleeping, but I was in excruciating pain while I was still awake, finally had to get better painkillers.
Tl;Dr, The whole operation sucks.

My wisdom tooth (yes it's only one) will be removed in a few weeks. The dentist said it's in a weird angle, so it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get that bastard out and i don't need severe Painkillers (probably the only bad news).
I guess you could call that luck.
Mitt Romney turns his back on a medical marijuana patient.
I smoked pot twice and disliked it enough that I never made it a habit. Still, I think its insane that anybody should ban its medical use.
I don't believe marijuana is this miracle plant that some claim it to be, but its retarded how demonised it is. Its a drug... big fucking deal. We take drugs ALLLLLL the fucking time. Somehow we put up with antisocial alcohol that is more damaging to our short and long term health, and yet smoking this plant sends you straight to hell. I drugged up twice today too. On caffeine. And lets not forget morphine, that wonderful painkiller that oh, just by the way, is an opiate. Where was the crusade against that? NO MORPHINE FOR OUR TROOPS. ITS A GATEWAY TO CANNABIS.

The video is great, the music makes me jealous of the deaf.
Welcome to the Sift, Stephen Sprinkles! I had a cat named Sprinkles once. I told everyone he was named after a former porn star, but it was really the name of a terrifying birthday party clown from my childhood. Don't hire Sprinkles the Clown for your kid's birthday party, people. Trust me. Don't hire Sprinkles.

If Quake was developed today...
>> ^Gallowflak:
Also, go buy Hard Reset.
This. (And while Hard Reset is not quite at the same level of greatness as Painkiller, it's still VERY good. Definitely what Bulletstorm should have been.)
If Quake was developed today...
@Hawkinson
Agreed.
Amusing video, but I don't lament the fact games have evolved. There are many things a lot of games back then did wrong, but as kids we were more patient and willing to overlook them. However, I do wish sometimes games would more often take a few more cues from old games in their design. Bulletstorm and Resistance 3 were a breath of fresh air in a stale FPS genre.
Also, Hard Reset was not the game I was hoping it would be. It was clunky and very dull, a massive step back from the superb Painkiller.

Hey guess what. Medicine IS poison. Almost ALL of it. You take enough and you die! Painfully! (unless its painkillers, idk what happens then) BAN IT ALLLLLL. I went to the Dentist and they fucking exposed me to Xrays! They weren't even man enough to be in the same room as me when it happened. Bitches.
I'm neither a Doctor or Scientist so I have no authority to discuss the dangers of vaccinations. I do know that I trust Doctors/Scientists when they say something is good for me a hell of a lot more than some anecdotal evidence.
Remember MMR? MAN ITS A GOOD THING WE ALL STOPPED TAKING THAT. Oh wait.

Yeah, Doom and Quake are sort of their own thing. They are being updated as other games. Doom is still around in the form of Serious Sam and Painkiller. Quake multiplayer is around... currently I play TF2 for the kind of fix I used to get from Quake I/II/III.
And I'm playing BFBC2 at 2560x1600 right now... I task-switched out because I'm so ADD lately. 4XMSAA still helps improve the image a bit if you look close. I could probably turn it up more but yeah it's just not necessary beyond a certain point.
