Insightful political commentary w/ Tracy Morgan -NBA pregame
dude that is sport
>> ^spoco2:
Um, ignoring Tracy's comments, why the f ck are sports commentators talking about which women would be better to have sex with anyway? Aren't they supposed to be talking about... oh, I dunno... SPORT!?
Why Are You Atheists So Angry? - Greta Christina
>> ^quantumushroom:
1. It's beyond ridiculous to argue the Pledge somehow establishes a State-supported religion. Or any religion. Government favors only government and more government.
2. Though there mayhaps should be, there is no (impossible to enforce) Constitutional right to privacy. Peer pressure? Welcome to the real world.
3. Why worry over "massive harassment" of Pledge refuseniks but have no second thoughts about calling the BSA "bigots" for setting standards? Are you equally concerned the NBA is "bigoted" against short people?
Once again, atheists' image problem is theirs to correct, starting with the aforementioned and ending with the ALWAYS OUTSPOKEN belief that to be an atheist is to be automatically smarter than theists.

Pro-tip: highlighting a lone jackhole attempting to eliminate the words "under God" from our VOLUNTARY Pledge of Allegiance, antagonistic billboards and declaring war on the Boy Scouts only enrages the masses.
1. Even if nobody ever recited the pledge, it would still be unconstitutional (establishment clause violation) to have it official, in writing, that the government favors theism.
2. Even though it's voluntary, when the teacher leads the whole class in reciting the pledge, there is a lot of peer pressure and it violates the students free exercise rights and/or their right to privacy since they have to either say something they don't believe or be outed publicly (leading to massive harassment if they're in some horrible backwards bible belt district).
3. The Boy Scouts' continued bigotry against homosexuals and atheists (as mandated by the top leadership but not necessarily followed by local chapters) is a big deal. I used to be a Boy Scout, and have nothing else against them.
Being tall is a bona fides requirement to excel in basketball. Heterosexuality is not necessary to do what the boy scouts do.
I have no qualms with calling the BSA leadership bigots because they are fucking bigots. Nothing's wrong with pledge refusers. Unison recitation of anything is appalling and reminiscent of the Borg, Nuremberg rallies, and church.

Lakers, please hire this young player after NBA lockout ends.

11 Muslim Students found Guilty in California
^ Or, a better analogy.. it's like running on the court at an NBA game and grabbing the ball. You're free to play basketball, just not here and now at the expense of everyone else's intent.
Assist! Assist! Assist! Sweet moves, Sifter, sweet moves
I miss NBA.

How to Shave Your Balls
Haha, nice big ball! I bet NCAA and NBA use these balls.

Lakers rule. Lakers need to tie and then take over Celtics' number of championships! Become a Lakers fan.
Here is an interesting fact that I didn't know about the Celtic/Lakers rivalry ( I am not a huge basketball fan so this is probably common knowledge).
"The two teams have won the two highest numbers of championships, the Celtics 17, the Lakers 16; together, the 33 championships account for more than half of the 64 championships in NBA history."
Pretty cool!

Petition to Apply Affirmative Action to the Basketball Team
Dude, really, the positive experiences of some east Asian groups does not negate the negative experiences of other visible minorities, nor does it disqualify their claims for justice. There is no zero-sum, or black/white (no pun intended) on this issue.
I'm glad that those asian groups don't experience discrimination or prejudice despite the fact that some come to the table without the required language skills or adequate income. Bully for them. Some of us have fluent and native english skills, and have all the supposed advantages of being in the middle class, yet somehow get passed over.
I also love that fact that you lump all Asian groups together to muddy the issue again. Hmong and Japanese groups have vastly different household income, health outcomes, education levels, discriminatory experiences, and so on. They are not the same in any way, yet you can use extremes in either group to create a distorted picture of the "Asian" experience.
And this video is just ridiculous. Who cares about the fucking NBA/NCAA? Let it all be white and chinese for all I care. That's not what really matters in our society for most people. Aside from the fact that making a jump shot is a direct measure of performance in basketball; no way to manipulate it, either you can or you can't. SAT, GPA, and other measures of so-called "merit" are deeply flawed.
>> ^chilaxe:
Most of what's been said in the comments above this isn't true because Asian Americans outperform Whites, even though Asian Americans are a minority, were very recently more poor than any groups in the US, and had greater language disadvantages than anyone in the US.
All the people in the above comments who support racist discrimination against Asian Americans don't believe in personal accountability and are in favor of a permanently hyper-racialized society. http://videosift.com/poll/Is-discrimination-against-Asian-Americans-in-college-admissions-good-or-bad
This comment could be disproved if you can show that Asian Americans didn't have greater linguistic and financial barriers to overcome than any groups in the US, or that they don't outperform White people.
Excellent footage of the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot 2011
Uhh, this is hardly a Canadian phenomena. Every Superbowl-winning city in America undergoes a similar thrashing post-game. Every NBA Championship, World Series, Stanley Cup, etc. and there's some violent act. Different degrees, sure. But SOME level of violence.

I think I have the reason why. It's sports.
Sports, by it's nature, is anti-intellectual. Now, I'm not going to condemn everything anti-intellectual because people like Adam Sandler would be unemployed. But then Adam Sandler fans do not destroy the theater after watching his shitty movies, in celebration of how shitty they are. I'm not asking anyone to like my opinion...but I'm afraid the problem is sports itself.
I'm open to hearing other theories, of course. But my theory fits the facts rather well.
Can you tell I'm not much of a sports fan?

How to REALLY interrupt a basketball match!
I'd love to see this in NBA especially with Lakers.
