Yo, where’s the movie playin’?
Upper west side, dude.
Well, let’s hit up Yahoo Maps to find the dopest route.
I prefer Map Quest.
That’s a good one, too.
Google Maps is the best.
True that.

68th and Broadway.
Step on it, sucka.

Roll up to the theater.
Ticket buying, what we’re handlin’.
You can call us Aaron Burr.
From the way we’re droppin’ Hamiltons.
Now parked in our seats.
Movie trivias the illest.
Which Friends alum starred in films with Bruce Willis?
We answered so fast it was scary scary.
Everyone stared in awe when we screamed Matthew Perry.
Now quiet in the theater or it’s gonna get tragic.
We’re bout to get taken to a dream world of magic with…

Afraid of Flying.. any help - seriously! (Wings Talk Post)

mintbbb says...

Hihi

I am alive, back in the States again! I THINK I did better. When we got to the cruising altitude, I just kept reminding myself that as long as we are up and running, we are fine. I had a few good books, and thanks goodness, the transatlantic plane had a dozen movies on a loop and 2 free drinks.

I ended up watching 'Get Smart', ' Narnia: Prince Caspian' and the newest Indiana Jones. I was very happy that the longest flights went without panic, I rather hated sitting whiteknuckled and listening to the engine noises for 8 hours.

The shirter flights were still kind of grabbing the arms of the chair and having very sweaty palms. But I behaved well, no crying, screaming, or getting arrested by an air marshall =) I think I could handle a single flight, just these 4 in one day and 4 more a week later are kinda rought.

But I am hone.. gett8ing stuck in some weird mid-atlantic time zone, since I am waking up at 4am EST and not getting back to sleep. Oh well, I have today off, I'll worry about being sane in workr tomorrow =)

Again, if anybody still checks this thread, thanks for all the help and suggestions. I made it, it went better than I thought and I am sooooooo happy to be back home! I was frigging honesick the whole trip! =)

thepinky says...

You're very ignorant if you think that everyone has the same rights and opportunities. And degrading attitudes about women still exist today. The stereotypes that label men as rational, strong, decisive, and protective and women as emotional (irrational), submissive, weak, and nurturing are still very much alive. Just look at the top sifts of all time:
1. A very talented MAN playing the ukelele
2. Two talented BOYS' well-made lightsaber video
3. Autistic BOY being awesome at a b-ball game
4. Talented MALE robot dancer
5. Prairie Dog, generally accepted as MALE. Thus: Drama KING
6. Very clever rant about Pachebel. Again, a talented and clever MAN.
7. FINALLY, an intelligent WOMAN with integrity. But, wait! She's also very beautiful. Do you think this would be the #7 sift if she hadn't been so gorgeous? I don't think so. Listen to some of the comments:
"Plus, uhmm - she's like a hot Christiane Amanpour. But I like her integrity too."
"She's 40% Kylie Minogue and 60% Naomi Watts."
"...Plus, shes hot."
"Is there anything better than a hot, articulate, angry blonde ... I don't think so."
"Lara Logan is hot. Not only is she drop dead pretty, she is smart, she has an acerbic tongue and she tells the truth. Lately, she has been wearing tight tops with a push-up bra that really make her tits looks great. More Iraq stories, please............"
"shes hot and reaaaaaaly intelligent..."
"I want this woman to have my children."
"Lara Logan, will you marry me?"

I give major props to the guys of videosift for focusing FAR more on her integrity, intelligence, and how articulate she is. They really were very good about that. But I really, really think that a lot of those votes had everything to do with the COMBINATION of brains and looks. If this had been an ugly woman, it would not have received NEARLY as many votes, I'd bet you anything. Moving on.

8. Awesome commercial. The wind is a tall MAN doing funny things. Love this sift.
9. Drug spiders. MALE spiders (Mr. Crack Spider, etc.), Male narrator.
10. Quantum Physics narrated and explained by a MALE scientist.
11. Clever prank, talented FEMALES. (Yay!) All old/overweight women are the ones being tricked, all beautiful and young females are the tricksters. Some sample comments:
"...also, they were hot."
"Those twins could prank me in the bathroom anytime."
"Twin hot German chicks in a bathroom is guaranteed to make #1."

Again, the majority of the comments had nothing to do with the way the girls looked, but on the prank itself. Cool. Movin on.

12. Jon Stewart (MAN) being funny and clever and awesome.
13. A pretty GIRL with a great bod doing something pretty cool. Comments:

"She can spin on my escalator any day she likes."
"This is cool and I think it's pure science. For example, it would be interesting also to rub her down in various oils and see how it affects the results. Or underwear versus no underwear for example. What would happen?"
"She's a hottie."
"oh and this is *nature too because humans are part of nature.
and *sexuality because those tight jeans make her look sexy to me."
"I predict a chubby girl stuck between the glass railings of a shopping mall escalator near you."
"Indeed, perhaps she will leave a trail of freshly erected posts behind her as she spins her way from town to town."
"I suspect she already left a trail of freshly erected posts, both at the original venue and among some of the male sift viewers judging by the comments."
"Videosift seems to have an immense fondness for rotating women."
"You males are all full of bull putty. If this was a 15 year old pimply faced fella doing this it have about 20 votes and an eia tag immediately."

14. Dolphins blowing bubbles
15. Cool music video. MALE band, MALE hands.

Most people see the world through the eyes of a man and they don't even know it. Men look, women are looked upon.

In reply to this comment by Shepppard:
Alright, this is a video of someone doing what they love.
I don't understand the controversy. Just because I watched this doesn't make me think of a woman as an object. I see her dancing, and I see her doing something she loves to do. I'm not sitting here thinking "I'd hit that so hard she'd walk funny for a week" I'm actually sitting here enjoying it because it's a dance.

People need to seriously reconsider what they want to pick fights with. Society on the whole has come to terms of equality. Black, White, Yellow, Purple, brown, male or female, everybody has equal rights and opportunities.
No race is better then the other, and same goes for the Sexes.

People don't treat women as brainless objects anymore. You can vote, you can drive, you can work, the only thing you can't do is pee standing up. People have accepted that women are NOT objects anymore, and therefore can actually watch something like this and appreciate it as art.

Because we (at least not all of us), don't have our head in the gutter anymore and can accept it.

What's That Smell? It's a MINK Roast! (Parody Talk Post)

gorgonheap says...

In the world of fiction and fantasy there are many lands that one can visit and become content in. Never Never Land, Narnia, Azeroth, and Middle-earth. Just to name a few. However none of the afore mentioned lands have as much believability as Lithuania. Why do some believe this made-up fairy tale land exists? Maybe you've seen maps, or WikiPedia says it's a 'real' country. Or maybe MINK himself has said there is such a place.

LIES! all of it. MINK actually lives in what is commonly referred to as a 'flat', for English chaps, and a 'crappy studio apartment' in the United States. There he waits for the BBC to show his favorite episode of terrahawks and crying when Doctor "Tiger" Ninestein dies for the 25th time.

There he sits with garbage littering the floor. A cigarette in one hand and a asthma inhaler in the other. His hair is matted and hasn't been washed in months, his whiskers ensure that even the lowliest of prostitutes that he frequents insist on him wearing a plastic bag mask. The only release he has from life is when he can go to Videosift and pretend he lives in the magical land of Lithuania. Where he pretends to make music that families love.

The poor sad fool. Should we pity him?... most definitely. Should we feel sorry for him?... Not really. Should we confront him about his fantasy land?... I could only serve to crush his spirit, which would be easy if he hadn't sold his soul to Hanna Montana for tickets to her concert.

First 5 Minutes of The Golden Compass Movie

gargoyle says...

Just finished reading the Golden Compass. It was pretty good, and I would have really loved it as a 12 year old. Don't think it would have done much to shake my catholicism. As a 12 year old, you just don't think about those things. Loved the Narnia series too as a 12 year old, and it did nothing to strengthen my catholicism.

First 5 Minutes of The Golden Compass Movie

Krupo says...

The key difference between Compass and Potter is that Rowling has, as far as we know, written an amusing book for its own sake.

Pullman, Compass author, is another kind of author altogether.

While the "anti-Church" thing as described in the quoted article I'm going to share with you doesn't really mean I'll skip a movie if it's amusing, I heard it got 1 star out of 5 in some reviews, so I'm going to instead avoid it because of 'teh suck.'

Aside from highlighting the anti-religious propaganda, the third paragraph is also useful because it explains what the heck is going on in this clip.

The movie has been described as "atheism for kids"
and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark
Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant
atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the
"Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was
specifically to counteract Lewis' symbolisms of Christ that are
portrayed in the Narnia series.

Clearly, Pullman's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote
atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said
in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has
even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children". It
has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be
praying for, if atheists prayed."
< BR>While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and
innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a
young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to
ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another
character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and
convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam
and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book
in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman's hatred of
Jesus Christ.
